I could not recommend this experience more! From the minute we walked in the door tk the minute we left, the team here went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, comfortable, and informed. Our two instructors were amazing going over the different types of ramen and sushi and the work that goes into preparing both. And of course, the food was delicious! This was the nicest group of people I have ever met and you would not regret this experience.

Underwhelming

Inna_E, Apr 2026
I take a cooking classes in every country I visit. This was the most underwhelming experience, especially given the price. The class was not 3 hours. It was two hours. We only made nigiri. Sushi includes more than nigiri. I was looking forward to making maki as it takes a lot more skill to make a role than a rice ball with fish on it such as nigiri. I was looking forward to learning a lot more about the history of sushi, soya sauce, miso, what’s a good quality, etc. The information on those subjects was minimal at best. Also, a lot of information that I did learn was because I asked, especially on sake. I’d appreciate a lot more participation in the ramen making part. Throwing a garlic clove and salt into the pot is not enough to justify the price. I thought that class participants will be making their own ramen and different kinds of sushi. That was not the case, far from it. The hosts were friendly, but not very engaging. One of the hosts was knowledgable on sake, different flavour profiles, etc. Again, I know that because I asked. Had I not, that information would not be included in this pricey course. My recommendation would be to host the class by an actual sushi/ramen chef, include more class participant involvement, include more information on cuisine history and its evolvement. It was also very disappointing to see hot marinade poured into the plastic bag to marinade the pork for ramen in. Plastic exposed to heat leaches into your food! Please avoid doing that as it’s very harmful for health. All and all, I don’t think the price justified what I received. I definitely had better. Much better.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed, honest feedback. We read every word carefully, and we want to respond to each point with the seriousness it deserves. On the depth of cultural storytelling, the ramen participation, and the overall engagement from our cast — you are right that these should come naturally from us, not only when a guest asks. That gap is on us, and it's exactly the area we want to grow in. On the plastic bag used for marinating pork in hot marinade: thank you for raising this — food safety is genuinely non-negotiable for us. The bags we use are heat-resistant, food-grade bags designed specifically for hot liquids, which is why we are comfortable using them for this step. That said, we clearly should have explained this to you on the day so you didn't have to worry. I'm sorry that wasn't communicated — the concern you raised is entirely fair without that context, and we'll make sure our cast shares this openly going forward. On maki vs. nigiri, and the class structure: our program is centered on nigiri, ramen, and sake pairing within a 3-hour window. We will make our booking description clearer so future guests can decide with complete certainty what they'll be making. We're truly sorry the experience did not feel worth the price you paid. We cannot change your day with us, but the care you put into explaining what fell short will shape how we train our team and refine the class going forward. For that, we are genuinely grateful. With warm thanks, Johnny Owner, Ramen Cooking Tokyo

Real Japanese experience

Ryan_J, Feb 2026
This was a great experience for my wife and I. We considered other options like the museum where you can make ramen but this was better. Our two instructors were fun and informative and the food was really good. We learned about real Japanese culture and language which is important to me. I was worried at first that we’d be standing for hours but that wasn’t the case. So much fun!

Top 2 Experience in Tokyo

Kwabena_A, Jan 2026
This was the BEST experience I’ve ever had with viator. The women of Ramen Cooking Tokyo are some of the warmest, kindest, most lovely people my husband and I have ever come across! By the end of the class it did not feel like we had paid for a cooking lesson amongst strangers— rather that we were learning how to cook from family. They were able to combine education and history about the food and clear easy to follow directions that allowed us to have such a delicious meal! The space is clean and bright and quite cozy! There’s no better way to spend your evening than by having a warm meal with warm hearted people (and the added bonus of unlimited sake ;)!) our only regret: not booking the gyoza class :/ but we will DEFINITELY be booking both classes on our next visit to Japan! Thank you ladies for such a WONDERFUL job and experience 皆様と楽しい時間を過ごしました。温かいおもてなしをありがとうございました。教えていただいたことを、ぜひ自宅で実践してみたいと思います! ^sorry if that spelling is off i used google translate:’h

Truly Incredible Experience!

KC357, Oct 2025
This ramen and sushi making class in Tokyo was absolutely amazing! The three women who teach it are knowledgeable, delightful, and so much fun — they make the entire experience both educational and joyful. I honestly feel like I can go home and confidently make both sushi and ramen, which says a lot! It’s not just a cooking class; it’s a wonderful window into Japanese culture, traditions, and hospitality. Truly one of the best cooking classes we’ve ever taken. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Tokyo — it’s a must-do experience!

An Unforgettable Hands-On Ramen and Sushi Experience in Tokyo

jordi_p, Oct 2025
Taking the "Ramen Cooking Tokyo" class was truly unforgettable. I’d struggled before to learn sushi at home with YouTube videos, always ending up frustrated and confused, but this class changed that completely. From the start, Sato and her colleague Ryushi made the learning environment warm and supportive. They broke down each ramen and sushi technique into easy, clear steps—so different from online tutorials! I went from feeling clumsy to confidently making nigiri (the perfect name for the sushi rice topped with tuna, salmon, and shrimp) and sashimi. Their patience and gentle guidance helped me build genuine skill and muscle memory. The ramen lesson was just as thoughtful. Every ingredient and method was explained simply, and I loved being able to take part in every stage. Our conversations about Japanese and European culture made the three hours fly by, turning the class into a fun cultural exchange. I left feeling truly happy and empowered to try these dishes at home. I highly recommend Ramen Cooking Tokyo to anyone keen to learn, whether you’re a beginner or looking to improve. I’m already planning to return with my family next time I’m in Tokyo!

Exciting personal experience

What a personal sushi/ramen making class. There were only two others with my husband and I. The chef was charming and made everyone feel at ease. We made and ate our own sushi and the pork belly in the ramen was delicious. You will not go away hungry!

A fun activity for foodies

David_S, Dec 2024
An excellent experience. We’ve never done anything like this before but our hosts made us feel immediately at ease. Informative and laid back - they took us from being sous-chefs to sushi masters within a couple of hours. The ramen was less hands on though more customisable - both tasted great. Some good sake choices too.

Great time learning how to make sushi!

Sandy_B, May 2024
The sushi making experience and sake tasting was wonderful. There were only 5 in our group, so instructions on sushi making were up close and personal and very helpful. The setting was great, overlooking the river, and the sushi we got to eat after making it was delicious. Also, the sake was top notch and very smooth.

Best time ever!
