Yuca is amazing! First of all, she is super knowledgeable to not only how to cook ramen and gyoza but to places you need to check and recommendations on foods of all sorts. She was really kind and made the class entertaining while she was a lovely host. She provided tea, all the ingredients, the recipes, and shared the history behind ramen and all the ingredients. 100% recommend!

I signed my parents and myself up for this class. We had so much fun and it was a highlight of our Japan trip. YUCa was so kind, welcoming and fun. The class was engaging and interactive. The other people in our class were really cool and I enjoyed getting to know them. And most importantly the ramen was amazing. I am so excited to make this regularly at home. Highly recommend adding this experience to your Japan trip, you won’t regret it!

A highlight of our Japan trip — don’t hesitate to book

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We absolutely loved YUCa’s cooking class and it may well end up being our favourite experience from our entire Japan trip. Yuca’s studio kitchen is beautifully set up — intimate, welcoming and clearly designed with love. Our class of six felt just the right size, and Yuca and her husband were both incredibly warm, hospitable and knowledgeable. The ramen and gyoza we made were genuinely delicious, and we left feeling confident enough to recreate them at home. We were travelling with our nine month old son and Yuca was wonderfully welcoming of him from the moment we arrived. She was happy for us to bring his pram up the stairs so he could sit comfortably during the class, and she even made him his own little onigiri for lunch — such a sweet and thoughtful gesture that completely melted our hearts. It’s about an hour from Shinjuku but don’t let that put you off — it is absolutely worth every minute of the commute. And when you arrive, Yuca provides a sheet of local recommendations for sightseeing, cultural experiences and food nearby, which is such a thoughtful touch. We followed her suggestions and spent the afternoon at Yanaka Ginza and Ueno Park — a perfect way to round out the day and explore a part of Tokyo most tourists never see. Don’t hesitate, just book it. The experience, the food, the hospitality and the local knowledge Yuca shares make it exceptional value and a truly memorable way to connect with Japanese culture. Enjoyable, but underwhelming

Overall, it was enjoyable and the food was very good. Yuca was very friendly and personable. Personally, I would have liked to have done more cooking and preparation rather than just pour a teaspoon of powder or liquid in a bowl. This isn’t really a cooking class, so if you want to chop, dice, and really cook, I would not recommend this. Also, our tour was supposed to include a market visit, but because we had some people from another group who were late, the market visit wasn’t until after the tour ended, so we did not have time to go. We should not have been penalized for people not showing up on time. The experience, however, was positive, if you don’t mind the above challenges.

Regarding the supermarket tour, this portion is normally scheduled at the end of the class. On the day of your experience, the tour was conducted together with other participants. As you left before the class concluded, we assumed you may have had another commitment, and unfortunately did not realize you were unable to join the supermarket visit. Great cooking course in the kitchen of the owner where you will learn the basics of Japanese cooking, in this case by making gyoza and ramen. Course was pleasant and well organized and also intimate - and the resulting food was delicious. Would highly recommend.

Really wonderful cooking class experience

We attended YUCa’s gyoza and ramen cooking class today and had a tremendously fun, entertaining and educational experience. She is friendly, outgoing, knowledgeable and full of energy. The class is conducted in her own home & kitchen so you feel welcomed and comfortable within that warm setting. The house is in a residential area not far from the heart of Tokyo, Shibuya, and Shinjuku. It took 40 minutes and required 2 train transfers for us to find her house. Very easy with Japan’s great public transit system. The food was delicious, and everything was served at her dining table. YUCa’s instruction and the teamwork from all participants to create the dishes made for a very fun experience. She provided recipes and notes so you can recreate the same dishes at home. She also takes you on a brief tour of a nearby Japanese grocery store where she pointed out many of the needed ingredients. The entire experience was fantastic and we plan to return to do it again in the future. Highly recommended.

Yuca's class was very nice. I learned a Lot about Ramen and Gyoza cooking. The place IS very cute and Yuca IS a great Host. Its Not a very hands on class since there ist only one kitchen and you are in a bigger group but Yuca explains everything very Well. Its also a nice Chance to get to know other travellers and Exchange with the.

We Uber out here. It was a fantastic experience. The hostess was so sweet and explained every bit of what we were doing and some of the culture behind it. Her house was very accommodating. It’s wonderful to see real people at home situation. We look forward to seeing our YouTube videos when we get home. Food was delicious. Highly highly recommend it. Yuca is a gem, I LOVED this experience for me and for my family and the other family that shared in the experience. She was so good at making sure everyone was involved in the cooking and was great at explaining things. The supermarket tour after the cooking class was also great fun and we got to ask her about all the strange stuff we were curious about.

The best experience for our family

YUCa was wonderful! Her class was interactive and the food was delicious! We take a cooking class in any country we visit and this was the best- she taught us about the Japanese food and the techniques to use. We will definitely make these when we get back home to Colorado. While we were making the ingredients for the ramen and needed to wait for it to cook, we made the gyoza by hand. That was a lot of fun for the kids (we have ages 9, 13 and 14). Then, we assembled our ramen bowls and it was all delicious! She also took us to the local super market to look at ingredients and explain things to us. It is in a neighborhood outside of the city, so no tourists. It is nice to see a different side of Tokyo. YUCa is so kind and I am so glad we signed up for her class. Definitely a top experience of our travels through Japan. We would definitely recommend!

Cooking class great, but no grocery store tour

There were 2 reasons I booked this tour: 1. The super market tour 2. Cooking with Yuki-san The reason I am giving 2 stars is because there was no supermarket tour. I chose this experience over others because this was advertised as part of the experience. I was disappointed that we did not ever visit a supermarket. For my own education, supermarket tours are helpful in gaining some independence in understanding what to buy when cooking foods, especially foreign foods. Oh well. 2. As other reviews stated, Yuki-san is wonderful. The cooking class in general was informative and the food was amazing. I was appreciative of being invited into her home and she was very warm and welcoming. Overall: food was great, Yuki-san is amazing, but I was disappointed that there was no store tour as advertised.

Insight into a typical japanese home and kitchen

Yuca gave us a glimpse into her quaint home. She had everything ready for us. She speaks good English, instructions were easy to understand. She ensure participation from everyone. She also taught us our names in Japanese characters based on the pronunciation. It was an interesting experience, but food portions can be bigger.

This cooking class was amazing. I did the ramen and gyoza class, and it was fun going through all the various steps. The end result was great too (eating the creations!) YUCa not only has the cutest studio with everything needed, but she's an amazing teacher. Patient, well-versed in technique, easy to understand: i couldn't ask for a better teaching class. If you have the time and interest, definitely would recommend this class to anyone! If i return to Japan again, i'll be sure to check out any other offerings she has. She also has great tasting tea and sake for purchase too, which i just tasted upon returning home, and wish i purchased more! You won't regret booking for a class with YUCa!
