Imperial Palace Tour

Masahito was an excellent guide! Very knowledgeable and kind. He gave us an in-depth account of the history of the palace and the imperial family from its origins to the present day. It is clear that he is very passionate about history, as he often makes intelligent connections between historical events in Japan and those in foreign countries. He was also very willing to answer all of our questions about Japanese life and customs in general. He speaks English very well, and we hope to have him as our guide again when we return to Japan.

Detailed review of the Chiyoda Imperial Palace Walking Tour (private)

Our guide was a wonderful person and was very kind. We are sure she did her best to show us the Imperial Palace. However, we believe either her English was not good enough to make this type of tour, or her knowledge of the Palace and the Historical events of the Palace are limited. To be honest, we had the option to do a free tour and still decided to go with a private tour. We though we were going to learn more about the Palace, but it wasn't the case. We were asking most of the questions and the type of answers we were receiving were "Yes." or "Let me see on my phone". When you pay 350 CAD$ for a tour (5 persons), you expect a minimum in exchange, and we feel like we did not receive this service. When we informed the manager of this Tour, he informed us that he was sorry and that he wanted us to do again the Tour, but this time, with the "best guide". This was very frustrating because (1) who would visit twice the same place during his trip in Tokyo (seriously?) and (2) we expected to have the best guide of the private tour as there was (and still is) a free tour, and this confirmed that we did not have the best guide. We strongly recommend to not do this tour and to book the free tour.

Very Interesting Tour

My husband and I had a great time! We had 2 instructors. They were very knowledgeable and explained more than just what the sign postings described. They took pictures for us at the different sites as well. They both spoke English well. They answered all our questions about the history and culture.
