Walking the Streets of Asakusa with a Comedian

    Aya_M, May 2026
When I was in Tokyo in October 2025, I had the opportunity to take a private Karate class with Ryo, so I was excited to see him again - this time as my Asakusa guide. Although I had been to Sensoji Temple before, Ryo pointed out things only a native would know. We had our fortune read, and even purified ourselves with the smoke from the burning incense. If you are interested in an introduction to Asakusa before visiting the alleys of shops near the temple, join Ryo for his tour. He is also a comedian, so he may crack a joke or two!

    Excellent and Enlightening Tour

Tho knee his history my young boys (16 yrs old ) loved him and asked tons of questions. Roy had a good sense of humor and was very patient with our questions and walking.

    Would book again!!!

    Zoe_J, Feb 2025
This tour was wonderful. Ryo is phenomenal and provided us with a well-rounded and insightful tour. He is very knowledgeable (and hilarious) which made this extra enjoyable. We learned about the history, culture and sites. Would book again. Thank you Ryo!

    I had a wonderful time...

    Janelle_H, Dec 2024
I had a wonderful time learning about Asakusa on a morning walk with Ryo. We were able to start at 8am to beat the crowds, and the crowds definitely showed up at 9am. The markets open at 10 so if you want to see all the buzz, go later, but if you prefer a quieter walk, recommend the earlier start time. I did not have breakfast so Ryo showed me some delicious Japanese food stalls where I purchased sweet potato rolls and other local street foods. He knows where the best spots are so don't hesitate to ask!

    Response from Host, Jan 2025

Thank you Janelle for having my walking tour! It was great that we could manage to start our tour a bit earlier when it was less crowded. I also think the area is relatively quiet in the morning:) I would always be happy to give some recommendations to my guests based on my career as a guide and a former rickshaw driver in Asakusa. Thanks:)❗️

    Asakusa guru

    Marina_V, Sep 2024
Had an amazing Asakusa tour with Ryo. I've done my homework on the area and Ryo have not left any corner of interest untouched. Not only we saw all the places that were old and of interest, he gave us a full and very interesting narration about the symbolism of the place, so all made sense. I loved the tail about paper fan festival and a monument. It's hidden and if u don't know about it you will never see it Another beauty was the large sight in chinese...3 letters...'all sorrow and anxiety are from the heart'. You would never know if you were not told where to look. So thank you so much Ryo for a great time we had

    Response from Host, Oct 2024

Hello Marina! Thank you so much for having my walkig tour and I am so pleased to hear that you could enjoy my guiding including the one about some hidden sites:)) Personally, I also like how Japanese people show a gratitude to their tools like paperfans by holding a memorial ceremony. Also, I would love to tell the story about the significance of the compassionate Buddhist deity at Sensoji Temple and it really makes sense why the temple has been loved among a variety of people since the past. Once again, thanks for having my tour and writing a nice review! Arigato:)❗️

A must if you go to Asakusa!

    Niles_C, May 2024
I had a wonderful and in-depth tour of Asakusa all thanks to Ryo! The starting location is very close to the station which makes it easy to get there fast, Ryo was very informative and was happy to answer any questions I had regarding parts of the tour. He has an interesting history himself and if you're lucky you could even see him doing a comedy show after the tour! 100% try the Melon Pan he recommends as it is so sweet and delicious. Lastly, the price Ryo is charging for this experience is incredibly cheap, you deserve more Ryo, but if others are curious to visit Asakusa, get some history, take wonderful pictures, and pay next to nothing to do so, then this is the tour for you! Thank you so much for having me Ryo

    Response from Host, May 2024

Hi Niles! Thank you so much for writing a review with a lot of details including my history lol I'm happy you liked the starting point of the tour and the contents as well. Also, I'm glad to know you enjoyed to have the Melon Pan bread which for me is one of the best snacks in Asakusa:) I'm so grateful that you are willing to pay more for my tour, and I do plan to increase the price soon...!:) Once again, thank you for having me, and I will keep doing my best to make my tour insightful and entertaining.

great tour for learning more about Asakusa

We had to reschedule because of bad weather but I'm glad we did! I was even able to get a private tour of Asakusa! Ryo was an amazing guide, providing a lot of background information to each of the individual landmarks in Asakusa and pointing out small details I would have definetely missed on my own. He also recommended some shops to get some specific souvenirs for my friend, which I really appreciated :) Overall the tour with Ryo really enhanced my visit to Asakusa and I can highly recommend it to anyone looking to learn more about the area and it's history, beyond the usual sightseeing!
