This was an excellent tour of Rocinha. Thanks to Carlos our guide who was very informative and thorough in preparing us for the tour and proudly showed us around his neighbourhood. We had a wonderful meal in a restaurant recommended by Carlos with a lovely young man from LA that we met on the tour. It finished it all off so nicely. Recommended!

You have a quick overview of what to expect near the station gate A. Then catch a quick motorbike up to the top of the favela. It’s all down hill so it’s not a hard walk, but some of the steps are very steep and of different heights widths etc. there is a great view point where we stop and talk about the favela. The guide was local and knowledgeable.

I had an authentic Favela Rocinha experience. The guide took us to a house that has a view. We rode up in a motorcycle. We walked down through alleys and stairs. We went through places that honestly could be dangerous for somebody on their own, specially since you cannot record or take pictures in certain places. You will be amazed at what you will see.

A phenomenal experience with our tour guide Carlos. He grew up and still lives in the Favela so his knowledge and first hand experiences were priceless. I was concerned about safety, but they answered my questions beforehand and not once did I feel unsafe on this tour. Be prepared to bring about $30 BRL in smaller bills for the mototaxi and a couple other things.

This tour was scheduled on the last day of my Rio visit, and I was surprised to find out that it was the highlight of my trip. It started with an exhilarating ride on a bike (moto-taxi) to the top of the Favela, then our guide; Caio gave us the background, history, misconceptions, and current state of the Favelas. He is a great communicator, and we felt safe with him throughout the whole tour. He introduced us and gave us a chance to buy from local artists and vendors without any pressure. He stayed with us until we got in our Uber back to the hotel. I would recommend this tour without any reservations to any visitor coming to Rio.

He’s a good communicator, and did a great job building the bridge between local people and me, a tourist. Great tour of Rocinha. We had no idea what to expect when visiting a favela, but our guide João did a great job walking us through the area. He explained the history of the favela and how it’s actually very safe given how controlled it is, and how many people are living well. Highly recommend to see a different side of Rio!

The meeting place is already in the middle of the favela. Our guide was very friendly and could speak English so that you understood him. One day before the booking you will be contacted again and you will get the hint to take additional money. Once for the motorcycle taxi (otherwise you won't get all the way up), for a roof top to take pictures and even for an app/map to be able to do the tour through the favelas at all.
