Itinerary
Begin your day with morning pickup from your Reykjavik hotel and travel into Iceland’s interior on board a fully equipped Super Jeep built for rugged highland roads. Settle in for the drive as you head away from the city toward the remote landscapes of the south-central highlands.
Your first stop is Pjorsardalur, a broad green valley shaped by rivers, waterfalls, lava fields, and birch woodland. Continue to Hjalparfoss, a two-tiered waterfall framed by basalt columns, where a short, easy path leads down toward the plunge pool.
From here, travel deeper into volcanic terrain to reach Hnausapollur, a deep blue crater lake known for its striking color contrasts. The route then continues to Frostastadavatn, where dark lava flows extend directly into the water.
At Landmannalaugar, explore an area known for its black lava fields and multicolored rhyolite mountains. Walk designated paths through the lava landscape and toward the surrounding volcanic formations before stopping to soak in a natural geothermal pool near the Laugahraun lava field.
The final stretch of the day includes visits to Haifoss, one of Iceland’s highest waterfalls, and Ljotipollur, a crater lake encircled by red volcanic slopes.
After your last stop, return to Reykjavik for hotel drop-off.

Incredible landscapes and a great guide Adam - a lovely guy with all kinds of interesting knowledge. Highly recommended!!

Very scenic landscape traveled with guide / driver Adam it was great. We were split up and my wife ended up sitting in rear seats that she had to get behind me and it was uncomfortable getting in and out. Other option was to sit on hump middle seat also not comfortable. Thus is the reason for my 3*** review

Landmannalaugar is beautiful and everyone who comes to Iceland for more than 2 days should go there. You’ll thank me. If you are lucky, you will get Adam as your driver. He was the best! He took a picture for me at the Haifoss waterfall that was way closer than I could bring myself to take. He put our group at dusk at a place so beautiful from all 360 degrees that you knew you’d never find a better spot in your life. And when you were tired and happy on the way back to Reykjavik he asked if we wanted to see the Northern Lights! Not on the list. Not required by any means. Sure to get him home an hour later. Yet that’s what he did. You cannot have a better vacation day than we in the jeep had. Maximum stars allowed! Thanks again Adam!

If you miss out on going to Landmannalaugar, you miss out on one of the best parts of Iceland! It is a blast to go out on the dirt/rock track with Adam in his Super Jeep. The views are fantastic and other-worldly. I really appreciated that Adam took us to places not indicated on other tours to this same location! If you get easily motion sick, just take a non-drowsy Dramamine before hitting the dirt track. Adam stops at a rest stop to allow you to grab sandwiches for lunch and takes you to a restaurant for dinner which is good because this is a 12+ hour excursion. The hike around the lava field has amazing views!

I can't rave enough about this tour. It was unbelievable. My husband and I did a northern European cruise and one of our overnight stops was in Reykjavik. We knew we wanted to travel and see some of the non-touristy spots in central Iceland and definitely see the colorful mountains of Landmannalaugar. Every stop we made was even more beautiful than the next. Our driver Adam was so knowledgeable and really made the trip that much better. Even though this tour is long, it was beyond worth it and I would recommend it again and again!
