Itinerary
After pickup from your central Prague hotel, set off on your 3.5-hour walking tour with your history-expert guide.
Exploring largely by foot but also by public transport when needed (own expense), start with an interesting introduction to the city's history, and the story of the Czech Republic, formerly Czechoslovakia, from your guide.
Situated in the center of Europe, the country has repeatedly come under the control of external states and empires down through the ages. Your tour will focus on how this pattern continued during the 20th century, from WWI to the Nazi occupation of WWII, and the 40 years of totalitarian Soviet rule from 1948.
Hear about the brave Czech resistance to the Nazis at sites associated with WWII, and stop at some of the grim landmarks left by the Czechoslovak communist regime.
Listen to your guide's tales of life in Prague during both periods, and hear how the spirit and dreams of the Czechs eventually saw them win independence in 1989.
Visit Prague’s Museum of Communism, whose artifacts trace the history of communist control. View the exhibits to understand the harsh realities of Soviet life from 1948, and how and why the regime collapsed.
Your 3-hour tour concludes in central Prague.

Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly but went at his pace not ours. The history of Chech resistance made this tour worth the time.
Response from Host, May 2025
Greetings, dear travelers. Our guides have (as written in the tour description) 3 hours to cover entire 20th century history. And of course they do all their best to cover everything, because they have a limited time at their disposal. Very often they have another tour after they finish this one.
Covering almost 100 years requires time but still our guides are doing their best not to miss anything so that no one could complain. Best regards Michael Dolina, Quality assurance representative, Spectrum Tours

I reviewed the description and although it is stated that the cost of the tour includes admission to a museum, we did not visit a museum. The guide was professional and very knowledgeable. We learned a lot about the history of Prague during the times of war. The tour included walking past many relevant buildings.Questions were answered and my interests were met. My complaint that I addressed to the guide was this, during his talking, we would be standing on a street corner, sidewalk for up to twenty minutes or so. After ten minutes, I would prefer to sit on a bench. When an afternoon rain shower passed we continued to stand outside, and under a tree and got soaked. Take the tour but ask about the admission to.........request to find a shady bench to sit on when the talking is going to be of considerable length.
