Complete tour of Terezin

Rich_S, Jun 2025
This was a complete tour of the Terezin 1789 large and small fortress, city, cemetery, crematorium and camp. Our tour started in Prague and Jack began with a history of the region and built on it layer by layer providing tremendous context. He brought photos, maps and more. And everything was included except lunch (as advertised). It was an exceptional experience - we don’t say that often. Highly recommend this tour.

Jack was a fantastic guide. Very knowledgable and was happy to answer any question we gave him. Super friendly, helpful and patient with us. We will recommend to friends and family in the future.

The bulk of the tour is about the fortress. My daughter and I appreciated the knowledge our guide shared with us. It was very moving seeing and learning about some very serious sites. Although it was very interesting and our guide was amazing, if you are looking for a concentration camp experience and don't want to spend the entire day, I would take a different tour.

An amazing place to see....

An amazing place to see. How the fort was built is incredible. Then to hear the history of the ghetto and jail. Our tour guide Jack was great, full of knowledge and info.

Exceptional Terezin tour

Carol_H, Oct 2024
Had an absolutely exceptional tour of Terezin with our guide, Jack. He was extremely knowledgeable of the history of the fortress and it's inhumane use during WW2. I feel fortunate to have been on this tour and would highly recommend!!!!!!!!!

Terezin Tour

Our guide Mike was phenomenal. Gave great background and history of Terezin’s Jewish ghetto psst. Then we got bogged down in the military menusia of the 18th century fort with Czech speaking guy who had to be translated by Mike. Then handed off to a guide who’s English was subpar for prison part of tour. Lots of walking and very few toilet spots/breaks. Public transportation to and from. Tour was about 2 hours too long. The only reason I give this rating is because of Mike. Otherwise I would give it a two star rating.

Response from Host, Sep 2024

Thank you for your review and we're happy you had a good time on your tour! The purpose of this tour is to give people a full understanding of Terezín's history. The fortress museum has only Czech-speaking staff and that's why we always translate - otherwise you would not have a chance to learn about it and visit the underground system of casemates :) Terezín is a small town - that is why they do not have a public restroom on every other corner. However, each museum has a toilet, train has a toilet and even the restaurant has a toilet. So we would say that there is a good number of restrooms throughout the tour. To give people such full overview of Terezín's history, we need the time that is assigned to that tour. If we would chop it down by 2 hours, we would be leaving important parts of the city's history. This tours is designed for history inthusiasts - we know it can be a long day but we hope most people would appreciate it offered them more than a "regular" 6 hour half day trips from Prague, which cover only the necessary highlights. We wish you happy travels on your trip through Europe!

Excellent experience with knowledgeable guide

I was recently traveling to Prague with a friend and we signed up for this tour. It was a deeply moving and memorable trip. Jack, our guide, was a very knowledgeable, personable and caring person. I highly recommend this tour and Jack as your tour guide!. In the 8 days, we were in the Czech Republic this was my favorite tour and Jack has a part to play in that!

Excellent tour!

We enjoyed and appreciated this tour very much. Jack did an excellent job guiding us through the history of the Terezín Fortress both during the Hapsburg and Nazi eras. It’s a full day with tons of history. Highly recommend!!

A Difficult but Necessary Tour made Memorable by a Great Guide

Lisa_W, Sep 2024
We spent most of the day touring Terezin with an amazing tour guide named Jack and 4 other people. The day is difficult emotionally, but the tour was structured in a way that let us absorb the horrors of the WWII portion of Terezin’s history, interspersed with historical information about the fort and the town. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and so thoughtful in his presentation. While the thought of what happened here is terrifying, this is a tour that everyone should experience to remind us not to let this part of history repeat itself. I highly recommend this tour especially if you have Jack as your guide.

A visit to Terezín

GaryAnn_B, Jun 2024
We had a wonderful day outside Prague with our expert guide, Jack. We were met at the appointed time at Wenceslas Square and all transport was done with enjoyable train and bus rides. Jack has a wide and deep range of knowledge about the history of the Czech Republic, and the history of Europe, in addition to a detailed understanding of the geopolitics of both Europe and the US. Jack’s English is excellent and we filled up the entire day with interesting discussion about our countries and mainly information about the large and small forts at Terezin and the internment camp used during WW2. We highly recommend this tour.

Best Travel Experience EVER

Jeffrey_S, Apr 2024
The entire day was amazing. Our tour guide Jack showed a level of professionalism and enthusiasm that we have never experienced in all of our travels. We learned so much about the history along with so many anecdotal stories that made it so memorable. We will certainly use Explore Prague for any future tours.

Everything and more you want to know about Terezin with 5 star guide

Andrew_N, Mar 2024
Booked day tour of Terezin. Our guide for the day was Jack, easy to meet at the Wenceslas statue with green umbrella. Had about 20 minutes to wait forthe train, so began with history of bank/gestapo building en route to the station. Jack extremely qualified guide had booked train tickets so began wonderful day out to Terezin. Was informed about history of Czech state being established, history of the Fort, got bus to Terezin, again commentary about the fort, town it’s history, whole history of the large and small fort, establishment of the Nazi model Jewish town, political prisoners etc. thoroughly enjoyable and very detailed tour of both forts with local tour guides, how the forts built, areas around, defence systems.

Jack is a star!

We were met on time by our guide Jack. We went in February and this is a quiet time for Prague - we were the only two people on the tour so I'm glad it wasn't cancelled. We walked to the station and were shown some buildings of real interest to us, my partner is WW2 mad so this was incorporated into our trip throughout. The train journey was interesting (very old school for us in the UK the carriages had compartments like the old school steam trains) and the views were good too. Terezin is fascinating - the way it was built is ingenious. 30+ km of tunnels within the structure to get between areas for defence is amazing! The fact you get to walk through some of them even more so as it is so well maintained. Some 300 cannon could defend the site, as well as the water defences from the river made this so defensible it didn't need to defend itself. The ghetto area still feels daunting; it was both closed and later open so families could meet up and spend time together. Lunch was at a local restaurant, Jack our guide advised what was good and that portion sizes were quite large. We now know what the home made lemonade is which served us well for the rest of the trip. The crematorium was grim and the grave yards well maintained. Jack took his own reference material including maps, books and photos to illustrate what he was explaining. Gave me ample chance to take photos and made sure we understood timelines too. We would like to thank Jack for the time and effort he put into the trip and making our day so memorable. We would definitely go on more trips if he was the guide! His enthusiasm, knowledge and passion for being a tour guide shine through and he is a credit to the company.

Highly recommend for those interested in history

Highly recommend our guide Jack Honza from Experience Prague, really interesting and informative tour. Very happy we did the full day tour that covers the Jewish Ghetto and the fortress walls in addition to the morning tour of the WWII prison section.

Great tour

Very knowledgeable and friendly guide. Don't miss this trip. Public transport to the site very enjoyable (bus and train). Not rushed. Nice meal in local restaurant. Take a torch for the tunnels.

terezin fortress and concentration camp tour from prague

russell_H, Apr 2019
Michael - our tour guide- was very knowledgeable about the terezin fortress and concentration camp. my wife and I were the only ones on the tour so it made for a more intimate experience. the concentration camp portion of our tour was very somber, but also very informative. the terezin fortress section of our tour (which came after the concentration tour) was also very detailed. the only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because the fortress part of our tour lasted just a bit too long. we toured some of the tunnels of the fortress and after awhile my wife and I got a little claustrophobic. We both could not wait to get back outside after being underground for over an hour. other than that, michael our tour guide was the perfect host.

Loved it

katherine_N, Mar 2019
We enjoyed our tour, we didn't realize the tour would involve so much walking so definitely wear comfy shoes. There will not be any bus driving you around. You'll be catching a bus and then a train to and from. There is plenty of walking so be sure to wear comfy shoes. Michael was amazing and very knowledgeable. I would definitely suggest cutting the tour a bit, we did find it to be a bit too long. But we loved it

A Day in the Footsteps of our Ancestors

Ron_B, Sep 2018
This tour was a full day of information and exploration of Terezin. There was so much insight into the lives of those who were sent to this concentration camp. Both of our guides were extremely knowledgeable and took us through the camp, the museum and the underground tunnels. It was quite an experience.

This tour was AMAZING!! Not only did we get to learn about the Terezin concentration camp and political prison which is what most tours are limited to, we also got to explore the fortress, which dates back to the 1700s. My favorite part was exploring the tunnels under the fortress, which were used for defense purposes. Our guide from Prague, Michal, was interesting and informative so much that we booked another tour with him later in our trip!, and the local guides were both excellent and passionate about their subject matter. I definitely recommend this tour if you are interested in the history of Terezin.

This was an interesting and very informative full day trip. Our guide Mike was very knowledgeable and the guides at both the Terezin Fortress and the Terezin camp site were great. Terezin Fortress is an amazing place and deserves to be visited by more tourists. Lunch at the local restaurant was tasty. This is a tour that utilises public transport and there is a lot of walking involved but the pace is comfortable
