We had such a great time at our calligraphy experience! It was very informative and our teacher was so kind and patient. We had a fun time and left with some brilliant one of a kind souvenirs!

We loved this experience! It was a really peaceful experience in the midle of a bustling city! Our kids loved it (Age 9 and 11) and we came away with very special keepsakes from our trip! The teachers were brilliant, very knowledgeable and so friendly!

Shaun and Sensai delivered a perfect workshop for our family. Time flew by- we couldn’t believe how fast 2 hours disappeared.. They gave us a lovely introduction to the meaning of calligraphy to Japanese culture before we got hands on with writing kanji and preparing our names on a board to take home!

This was a great workshop experience, it was really interesting to learn about the meaning behind Japanese calligraphy as well as the techniques and then being able to try some writing. It was very friendly and relaxing, and a lovely way to end my trip to Japan. I really appreciated Stephen's help and advice to make sure I could attend and would be able to catch the aiprort train. Would definitely recommend if you would like to know more about Japanese culture and a chance to be hands on trying it out.

Absolutely loved this calligraphy course, the instructor and translator were amazing, we learnt some really good skills and enjoyed it so much went straight to buy materials to do this at home.

We booked this as we had an extra day is Osaka, and it was an excellent experience. You practice kanji in shodo calligraphy with a traditional teacher, plus someone who could interpret and explain. Then you get to write your name in kanji and are given the meanings as well. The final one you write is on card so you can take it home.
The operator explained all about shodo and the other '-do's' like aikido etc and it is a very quiet activity with lots of concentrating. We found the place easily enough and they had supplied photos and directions and then met us outside the building which was good. The teacher even made us origami coasters and fidget spinners to take home. I really loved the experience and i can easily see how meditational this activity can be. My husband is all fired up to learn more kanji in the future.
Also, you sit at a table with chairs ( not kneeling like the picture) in an airconditioned room - so if the heat or the possibility of kneeling for 2 hours is putting you off, dont worry about that.

We had an amazing time at the Calligraphy Class in Namba. Nao (teacher) and Stephan (translator) were so welcoming! They were clear in their instruction and charismatic. We loved getting to learn the meaning and history behind the Kanji along with practicing and chatting with the instructors.

The calligraphy workshop was really enjoyable. We really appreciate the transmission of the art of calligraphy done by Stephen. The calligraphy workshop is excellent! The group was small and intimate, we learned a bit about the history and the word itself SHODO - calligraphy in Japanese. The writing experience was positively challenging. Throughout the workshop, we were given close supervision by an amazing teacher, patient and with a lovely soul! The workshop is delivered by an amazing man and woman. Highly recommend!!! I had a lot of fun and learned a lot!

This was easily in our top 3 things we did in Japan.
It's a cultural experience you can't have many other places on earth. That alone is worth it. The instructors took it to another level and genuinely helped us understand the meaning of the process instead of simply showing you motions.

We did this lovely calligraphy workshop in the Namba area of Osaka. We are a family of six with 4 teenagers. It was a really fun afternoon learning more about the history of kanji and also giving it a go ourselves. Much harder than it looks for sure. Stephen & co were very nice and informative and taught us a lot. We all really enjoyed this day a lot and brought our own handwritten names home as a lovely keepsake.

The shodo class was great! They made calligraphy less intimidating. Loved learning what the characters meant and not just writing them. They were very encouraging! By they end I even impressed my self a little.
The one suggestion I’d make is they need a sign next to the nail salon’s sign with an arrow pointing down the hall.

It was an intense and very interesting experience !
The teacher was very patient and calm through the the process of learning this difficult art. There was also a translator speaking fluent english to help us communicate.

Had a great experience learning not only to actually practice calligraphy, but also what it is about and Japanese culture in itself. I was even lucky to be the only person to book on that day, and they were kind enough to still do the clas just for me! So I had two teachers just for me! Loved it and will keep practicing Shodō! Thanks for the awesome experience!
