Amalfi coast

Great tour. Driver was very knowledgeable about history of the coast. Answered our questions and kept us on track to see as much as possible in time we had.

So first the good. The Amalfi coast is beautiful. Just like you see in the pictures there are beautiful homes perched overlooking the water and windy little roads along the way. Now the bad. It is choked with tourists and I do mean choked. You can barely move in some of the cities and it takes hours to drive 20km because it is often down to a single lane and everyone has to take turns. And this is off season! So an 8 hr trip of the coast is 5-1/2 hrs of sitting in a car crawling along and a few stops to get out and look at things. Some places are interesting, others are selling flea market crap. Having spent a fair amount of time in Tuscany, Amalfi can't even begin to compare. If I had to do it again i think I would book water travel and see it from that angle. Would be way less crowded and more relaxing. Our driver was pleasant but spent much of the time silent or playing with the radio or her phone. I don't feel it was worth what we spent.

Our driver, Antonio, was the best! There were 8 in our party and Antonio picked us up right at our ship and took us on a day-long adventure along the Amalfi Coast with stops for pictures and shopping along the way. He also recommended a wonderful restaurant in the town of Amalfi where we had one of the best meals of our vacation before heading back to the ship. On the way back, we had a little car trouble, but Antonio never lost his cool and we teamed together donating our water bottles to the cause and we made it back to port with more than an hour to spare. I highly recommend this tour.
