- Some uneven surfaces - suitable footwear is a must. Wear clothing appropriate to the local conditions
- Some of the content is not really suitable for particularly young children. By all means bring them and we will try and temper some of the more descriptive elements
- On tours where guests are all adults, the pitch of the tour may reflect this: whilst we will be covering some important history, this is not a lecture
- At some stops, seating at available but at other places it is not. If this is an issue, please inform us at the time of booking and we will slightly adapt the route - at no cost to the content - to try and accommodate you. We cannot, however, guarantee that other members of the public are not already in the seats we had earmarked.
- In particularly bad weather, or due to other events out of our hands - such as musical concerts or political rallies/protests which bar our regular route we reserve the right to change our route. Whilst every effort in made to choose an alternative route which still allows us to discuss the advertised historical themes in the locations where they occurred , on occasion we might have to go light on some and add more to another
- We aim to offer at least two historical beverages; these are just samples. Due to occasional supply issues we might have to substitute them for more modern styles. Nonetheless, they will still illustrate the part of the tour which deals with the history of brewing in Munich
- Important: This tour is only offered in English. For German language tours we recommend you check out the Weis(s)er Stadtvogel. Their offering is not the same superb hands-on tour with anecdotes and bad jokes from a time-served archaeologist in odd clothes as ours.....but it is still very good. (They do however have their own odd clothes :-) )
- This is an English language walking tour. If mobility and/or speed is an issue, please let us know at the time of booking so that we may slightly adjust the route
- Not recommended for travellers with an over vivid imagination
- This tour/activity will have a maximum of 15 travelers

The Macabre tour was a very informative and well planned experience. Our guide Taff was extremely knowledgeable, approachable and engaged with the whole group throughout, he brought history alive, my 3 kids (20, 17 & 14) me and my husband had an amazing time. We were encouraged to handle artifacts which brought history into our own hands. Hearing stories of the lesser known past of munich was fantastic, I cannot recommend this tour highly enough, as a family we all thoroughly enjoyed it, Huge Huge thanks to Taff for making our trip to Munich even more enjoyable. thank you for taking a moment to write a review; I'm really happy to read that I ticked all the boxes. With a mixed demographic it can be tricky finding the right pitch but I figured after meeting you all in Marienplatz that we'd have a good fun tour.
As an archaeologist, we try and get the most out of the smallest, perhaps uninspiring artefacts; but now you know how we analyse broken pottery and coins - and you can only really do this by having the artefacts in your hand.
Next time you are here, please don't by shy :-) (Its always nice to meet folk from the old country)

Had a great time with Taff on our tour of Munich. Very interesting side to history with plenty of archaeological background on finds within the city. Tailored the tour to our interests. Extremely knowledgeable guide who is extremely passionate and answered all of our questions fully. We also enjoyed the beer that we had together. Would recommend this experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Taff. Particularly interesting was the information about the history of anti-semitism dating back to the Middle Ages, entertaining stories of Duke Ludwig the Severe, the need for Bavarian Purity Laws (this beer tastes like rope!) and of course the beer tasting! :-) A great way for us and our 14 and 17 year old daughters to encounter some of the history of Munich. Taff our guide was a ton of fun and shared some good ghoulish tales of dark Medieval murders and bad behavior through the ages in Munch. We met him in the Marienplatz, and he was wearing a really great authentic costume appropriate for the period. Taff's sense of humor and serious acting chops made the tour really fun and informative. He's very funny and his quick wit and extensive expertise about Munich's dark history made for a great time- not to mention the beer he shared with us. We highly recommend!

Our family had a fantastic time on this tour. Taff is a passionate storyteller with a fantastic sense of humour that brought the history of Munich to life while covering the key sights throughout old town. He was great with our kids (aged 9 and 11), and his in-depth knowledge of all aspects of the city’s history meant he was able to answer even the most obscure questions. Would highly recommend this tour!

Taff is an excellent storyteller. I am so glad we booked this. We learned a lot about history and Taff was very open to questions which made it more interactive. The beer sampling was fun and Taff had some really great, very old artifacts to share with the group! His knowledge of archeology just adds to ability to answer questions.

As an archaeologist, I'm very privileged in that I get to handle ancient artefacts like coins and pottery on a daily basis; one can learn so much by having these things in your hand...and then maybe letting your imagination run wild for a moment as you consider the time and cultural differences between when it was made and now. I still get the same buzz I had as a teenager on my first dig - and I'm now 47...
As for the beer....well this is Munich :-)

If you want to learn about the darker history of Munich that lies beneath the sanitized version you see today (and by dark I mean the medieval dark, not just the Nazis), then Taff is the tour guide you need to go to. They say truth is stranger than fiction, and there are a lot of true stories you'll learn on this tour that will have you talking about them with friends long after it's over. For the tour itself, I would already give 5 stars, but I would give more because of Taff's professionalism. There was a risk we couldn't do the tour at all because one of the guides had fallen ill and it had to be canceled the day we were supposed to do it. Taff reached out and did what he could to reschedule the tour at another time that worked for both parties! We are very thankful he did that and we were able to experience this tour on our vacation!

If I could provide 20 stars, I would! Taff may look theatrical in his profile picture, but I assure you, this guy knows his stuff! Within 20 minutes my 2 teenagers were engaged and by the end of the tour they both reported it was the best tour they’ve ever been on. I’d happily take his tour again next time I visit Munich. It was really that good!!

Our guide David (Taff) was incredibly knowledgeable and extremely skilled at bringing history and old stories to life. He had plenty of artifacts (some real and some recreated) to share with us as well as examples from his primary occupation as a local forensic archeologist. He’s also incredibly witty and easy to talk to on any subject. We took 3 tours while in Munich (third reich, Nuremberg, and macabre Middle Ages) and this tour was easily my favorite! If you’re one of those people who think a costume wearing guide won’t be knowledgeable you’ll be wrong in this case. Book it!

Taff was very informative and fun. He is full of interesting tales and facts. Things that you wouldn't normally read or hear about. He comes in full costume (which he explains) and with props that help you visualize some of the tales he tells. It was interesting to hear him explain the reason for some of the sculptures and monuments along the way. If you love history this is a tour for you.
