Nic was an outstanding tour guide, and provided so much information and background information that greatly enhanced our experience at Dachau.
Our tour guide, Jake, was a former American teacher who was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. He thoroughly covered the history of Dauchau from its creation to the liberation. We found this tour to be both educational and enjoyable. Jake did an excellent job of describing and articulating the horrific and brutal conditions of the concentration camp.

Jake was one of the most knowledgeable guides I’ve experienced in my years of using Viator tours. World War II and the Holocaust were one of history’s most horrific era’s. Our guide Sam was a wealth of information. He explained the history of Dachau but, more importantly, he really focused on what daily life was like for the incarcerated which was profoundly interesting. The details Sam provided explained things you might have known but never knew the reason for. Sam kept the tour moving along because he covered a lot of ground in the hours that we were there. I would have loved to come back after the tour to spend time looking around on my own having processed all the information from the tour. I knew the tour would be impactful both mentally and emotionally and it certainly was. It gave me a greater respect for those that suffered at the hands of the abuse of power and a deeper understanding of history

Dachau itself is legendary and tells its own story. HOWEVER, our guide, Nic, was OUTSTANDING. He was like a history professor educating us along the way, pointing out subtle nuances about the political movements that allowed such a horrendous camp system to evolve. In addition to the thorough education he provided us, he was so organized in his instructions to us as we had to use public transportation (train and bus) to get there and back. We had an hour to spend in the museum after a 2 hour tour with Nic, and honestly, we could have spent a whole day there learning about the Nazi atrocities.
I'm sure this tour would also have been good with another guide, but Nic was absolutely exceptional. I really don't have enough superlatives to describe the job he did. If I could give him a 10 out of 5 stars, I would!

Excellent tour! Connie was knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. It was well paced and we felt like we saw all that we wanted. She cautioned the group before and graphic photos, etc. A difficult tour…impossible to comprehend, but necessary to honor and remember those who were victims.

Jake, our tour guide, has a very extensive knowledge of German, WW2, and concentration camp history. He is Jewish, but married to a German woman, and as a former teacher, he has a very detailed, balanced and amazing perspective on everything related to this subject. While he takes the topic very seriously, he manages to keep the tour very interesting, informative, educational, and even provides some light-hearted, self-deprecating humour, when appropriate. We thoroughly loved the tour. We would recommend it to anyone, and everyone, for global citizens interested in knowing and seeing what really took place. Mat was an amazing guide. He is very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. He's obviously very experienced and this pays off for all of us because he knows how to pace the flow of information and he was able to easily control the flow of the tour even when interruptions occurred like having to wait for the bus that just left when we got off the train, he used the time to give us some further background so we'd have more context for when we arrived in Dachau. Very respectfully and professionally presented, we would recommend this experience very highly.

Mat is extraordinarily knowledgeable and very pleasant to understand. He was very patience waiting for us slow folks and we were able to see many parts of the camp. It was a very sad and somber experience to visualize what the prisoners went through. The cremation chambers was horrific. The three hour tour was definitely worth it. Our group size was 18-19 so that was a manageable size to get on the train and bus to get to the memorial which is about 1 hour each way. I would highly recommend taking the tour with a knowledgeable guide.

This was an informative your. Nick provided us with a chronological history, explaining the initial purpose of Dachau and how it evolved to its horrific final end. We were allowed am hour to walk the grounds after the two hour tour. Nick was very informative and clear. Higjly recommend booking this tour with him.

In what is necessarily going to be a pretty heavy experience, Jake brought a really useful balance of levity, historical knowledge, and seriousness to what we were seeing and hearing. His approach right from the outset, making light jokes about where people were from, set the tone that this wasn't just going to be a half day full of somber, depressing reflection on the horrors that happened at Dachau. That was, of course, a necessary part of it. Reverence was required and supplied plentifully. But the way he took on the day had a way of giving us "permission," so to speak, to be human in a place that was inhumane, without having to hang our heads like it was an all-day funeral. If he, a Jewish man just two generations removed from being in those camps himself and living in the city that was the heart of this entire sick movement, could bring some level of lightness to the day, then so could we. We could smile. We could laugh. And we could also fight back the tears when they came. We could walk the steps of those who were tortured there without bearing every ounce of their burden, but still recognizing that burden was there and respecting that. He made it a point to talk to everyone and make each of us feel present and seen. It felt both open and reverent. It's not easy to create the atmosphere on a tour like that. I think that only comes from a guide with a tremendous amount of comfort in his own skin and an easy-going manner that's well-suited to this sort of tour. Highly recommended, because we have a responsibility to witness the past when horrors happen, to honor those who experienced it and to remember not to let it happen again. And if you're gonna take that leap, you might as well do it in the right hands.
