Itinerary

This full-day excursion begins with a tour guide meet and greet at Marienplatz, the main square in central Munich. After boarding a train there, it’s approximately a 20-minute ride north to Dachau.

The Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site was the first Nazi concentration camp in Germany during the Holocaust. It served as a model for all the other camps that followed it. See the photographs, documents, reconstructed cell blocks, crematorium, administration headquarters and much more on a tour of both the camp and museum.

Find out little-known facts about the well-known Nazis linked to this site, like Heinrich Himmler, the guard who started the camp. And listen to the heart-wrenching stories of some of Dachau’s 200,000 prisoners — communists, German dissidents, gay men, Jehovah’s Witnesses, as well as Jewish and Polish men and women. It’s a chilling reminder of the events that took place here.

After touring the site, return to the train station with the guide for a trip back to Munich. Following a break for lunch (own expense), take a Third Reich walking tour through the city. See where Hitler joined the German Workers Party, where the infamous German SS began and much more.

Wonderful

Mikko_R, Mar 2026
This is absolute gem, must be the best possible half-a-day tour from Munich to Dachau. The guide has everything well planned and knew the places and issues so that no question was left open.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Your feedback is greatly appreciated and I am delighted that you got value from your experience. All the best.

Ask for Alan!

Kimberly_W, Mar 2025
Alan was our tour guide and right off the bat I could tell he’s a very seasoned guide. I have been all over the world and have done all different types of tours. He’s by far one of my favorite. He said he’s been giving tours for 19 years and it shows. The questions were insightful, all while being very respectful about the subject. I would not do this tour without a guide. There was just so much information and it helped give it much more meaning and left a lasting impact. Alan was just an all-around great person.

Response from Host, Apr 2025

Thanks Kimberly, it was great to meet you and your son on the tour. I am delighted that you got value from your experience. The feedback I am getting suggests people are happy to pay slightly more for a small grouo experience to get more out of the tour. All the best.

Well worth the time

Susan_R, Nov 2023
It was a very moving experience. Our guide, Alun, was a wealth of knowledge and did a wonderful job of explaining what was happening in and around Dachau.

Response from Host, Nov 2023

Great to meet you Susan. Thanks for your positive feedback.

Educational and moving trip

Leonard_L, Jun 2023
This was a very educational and moving trip for the entire family. Our tour guide Alun was very knowledgeable of the subject matter both at Dachau and during the afternoon Third Reich walking tour. Besides telling us about what we were going to see in the tour he spent a good and appropriate amount of time to give context to the experience, often with insights to what motivated those historical actions. He was also masterful in navigating us through the transpose system to get there as our trip was at probably the peak of the summer tourist season. Overall excellent tour and experience. Thank you Alun

Response from Host, Jun 2023

It was great to meet your lovely family on the tour. So important that young people get informed about this period in human history. Thanks for your feedback.

Fantastic Guide and informative tour

Daniel_K, Jun 2023
Our guide, Alun, was fantastic. He was attentive, knowledgeable, respectful, and personable. It is a difficult task to cover such dark information with grace, he exceeded. Highly recommended

Response from Host, Jun 2023

Great to meet you on the tour Len. Really happy you got value from the tour on your second visit to the memorial.

Wonderful tour

Cristine_S, Nov 2022
This tour is worth every cent. I don’t think O have ever learned this much in sich a condensed period of time. Alun is the best guide one canhope for: knowledgeable, engaging and knows when to gove you time to explore on your own. I have already recommended this tour to several of my friends.

Response from Host, Nov 2022

Thankyou Christine! I think taking a tour is the way to go in terms of an efficient way of getting as much information as possible. I am delighted to hear that you found that to be the case and I really value your feedback. All the best.

Excellent!

Lauren_N, Nov 2022
I had Alun Evan’s and he was absolutely excellent! All the plans were well done with backup plans and he was very knowledgeable!

Response from Host, Nov 2022

Thankyou for taking the time to write up a review. Yes, backup plans are essential to the smooth flow of a tour. We had some train delays on the day but a contingency plan makes sure that everything runs smoothly despite that. I feel one of the benefits of taking a tour is that the guide takes responsibility for the guest and tries to make things as stress free as possible. Delighted you got value from the tour.

Great day with the family

Amazing, educational, meaningful day!

Wendy_H, May 2022
We had such a wonderful experience on Alun’s tour. He’s a wonderful guide and we were able to learn so much! Very thorough, lots of context, respectful, and more impactful than trying to navigate on our own. Strongly recommend!

Response from Host, May 2022

It was great to meet you Wendy. I am delighted that you were satisfied with your tour and wish you well on your future travels.

Simply a MUST Do

Kim_T, Mar 2022
Alun was an outstanding guide! The trip to Dachau, though poignant and important for everyone in the world to experience, is an incredibly weighty topic and can have quite an emotional impact. Alun navigates the significance of the experience with skill and thoughtfulness. We also joined Alun for the afternoon part of the tour to see a bit more into some of the makings of what lead up to the concentration camps and their atrocities. This walking tour was an interesting addition and again, Alun navigated it with thoughtfully and with great insight, guiding us through the streets of Munich pointing out sites of historical significance and telling us stories of their meaning. I 100% recommend Alun and this tour to Dachau to absolutely anyone and everyone. And those with a particluar interest in WWII history will enjoy the 2nd half of the tour walking the streets of Munich. Thank you, Alun, for a wonderful experience!

Response from Host, Apr 2022

Hi Kim, thanks for reviewing your tour. I agree, everyone should visit the memorial. Difficult to process what humanity is capable of but education is empowering in terms of striving for a better future. Seems more relevant than ever in the times we are living through.

Great tour

Gerald_T, Mar 2022
The grostesque pictures of torture and slavery during the war. Shows us how the nazis really are heartless

Response from Host, Apr 2022

Thanks for the review Gerald. I agree, the images we see at Dachau are confirmation of the barbarity of the regime. Of course always bearing in mind that such atrocities historically have never been exclusively the domain of one political creed. Dachau shows us the potential of mans cruelty to man irrespective of the political orientation of the perpetrators.

Memorable Tour of Dachau

Manuel_C, Sep 2021
Fascinating tour on one of the saddest eras in our history. Allen (tour guide) was a wealth of information, respectfully detailing the events that took place in Dachau not too long ago. The smaller group made Q & A time during the tour much easier. Allen was very approachable and easy to talk to.

Response from Host, Sep 2021

Thanks for your revue Manuel. The recurring feedback that I am getting is that small groups are really appreciated. Especially for Dachau, I have always intuitively felt , that smaller groups are the way I want the tour to go. The Dachau memorial is more than just a tour, it is an educational and emotional experience that we can use to hopefully create a better future.

Do not miss this tour

Justine_C, Mar 2020
Although a very confronting day we were well looked after by Alun. It was good to have the opportunity to ask questions and he was happy to answer them. Appreciated the time at Dachau museum to look at specific topics of interest for oneself. The Third Reich walking tour was enlightening to see the buildings and places of historic importance that played a part in this dark part in history Highly recommended tour.

Response from Host, Mar 2020

Thanks for your review Justine! It was great to have you along on the tour!

Knowledgable, friendly guide

Jodi V, Dec 2019
Alan is very knowledgeable, friendly, punctual. A somber day due to the material, but I walked away with a very good understanding of the material Alan does a great job prepping you for the excursio . I'm very glad to have had him as my guide. I would highly recommend this trip and Alan!

Response from Host, Jan 2020

Thanks a lot Jodi, it was great to meet you on the tour! All the best

Awesome, worth it!

Rachel_C, Dec 2019
Alun was an amazing tour guide! Everything he said and planned out was done with with care and passion. The small group size was perfect.

Response from Host, Dec 2019

Thanks for the review! One of the recurring feedbacks that I get is that people appreciate the smaller groups. I will endeavour to maintain this approach. It means that the cost is a little bit higher than other operators but I am not relying on volume. All the best!

Great Tour

Wanda_S, Nov 2019
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Alun Evans. He made it very informative but not overwhelming. We were a small group of 5 people so it was always easy to hear what Alun was saying. He showed us many important areas of where the Third Reich functioned in Munich. It is definitely a tour worth taking and you will not be disappointed.

Response from Host, Dec 2019

Hi and thanks for the review! Yes as a guide it is striking that balance between being informative and not overloading visitors with information. This is still a work in progress but I am happy to hear your feedback. best

Highly Recommend!!

Jihan_S, Oct 2019
My husband and I had the pleasure of taking this tour with Alun yesterday. It was informative, educational, and insightful. For someone who does not appreciate history, our tour guide Alun was able to articulate information in a way that was easy to interpret and follow. Alun knows his “stuff” and you can tell he is passionate about what he does. Go you will not regret it!

Response from Host, Nov 2019

Thanks, I really appreciate your feedback. I get a very wide variety of people on the tours, from history majors to WW2 buffs and people who have general knowledge. I try to deliver information in a way that everyone can get something out of it. Take care!

Our tour guide, Alun Evans, was...

Florin S, Oct 2017
Our tour guide, Alun Evans, was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Dachau and the atrocities committed in there . Having done the tour for a long time, he knew all the in and outs of the place and was able to guide us flawlessly, maximizing our time in there

As someone who traveled to Europe...

David T, Sep 2016
As someone who traveled to Europe specifically to gain more knowledge about WWII, I cannot say enough good things about this tour and its guide. Alun was extremly engaging in one-on-one conversations and posed a great deal of insight about Dachau and the rise of the Third Reich. During the Dachau portion of the tour, Alun's descriptive narrative made it easy to visualize what prisoner life and conditions were like. He gave an hour of free time to explore the camp and visit the memorials at tour goers own pace which added more meaning to the visit. Walking through Munich on the Third Reich portion of the tour, Alun possessed an indepth perspective about Hitler's personal life to include day-to-day activities, his relationship with his inner circle, and his political development in Munich. Alun conveyed facts with a particular familiarity of the chain events that lead Hitler to become Chancellor of Germany in a concise and easy to understand manner that is second to none. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in learning more about WWII or if they're interested in history in general. I will definitely be going on Alun's other tours when I visit Europe again in the future. --David
