Beautiful scenery. Crowded tour.

Lurissa_d, Mar 2026
Even though it was raining, the scenery was beautiful. But the tour group was much too crowded making it difficult to communicate.

Fantastic walk

Linda_N, Oct 2025
We had an excellent guide and driver. The walk and the scenery were spectacular. We had such an amazing day.

Wonderful experience,...

Wonderful experience, everything is planned for you. The guide explains a lot of things to us about the island history, Funchal, the different spots and so on. We had a very pleasant time.

A masterpiece of good communication

Henry_D, Feb 2025
An excellently led, guided and organised 11km walk in a beautiful hilly part of Madeira, about 40 minutes drive from Funchal. The scenery on a dry clear day is superb. You will need good shoes, a smartphone "light" to navigate the tunnel safely - and be able to cope with steps and some narrow Levada paths. Our guide gave a masterpiece of clear communication about all the organisational details (including refreshments/toilet and lunch stops, estimated walking times for each stage and how to keep safe at all stages) - and superb guidance on the local plants, animals, birds, geology, history of the levadas etc. We not only had a great walk, but learnt a lot from a very fluent guide.

Rabacal Levada walk

Geraldine_P, Oct 2024
Great day trip with our guide Yulia, she was very knowledgeable about the Levada & the surrounding environment. Loved it!

Good pace with great emphasis on safety which made me feel better as an amateur hiker

Karen_W, Oct 2024
The rain was crazy but the planning and emphasis on safety was great. We didn’t get the message about the change in pick up location but the guide made the experience memorable. I’m not a great hiker but there was no pressure and everybody was very easygoing

Great Day Out

Stuart_D, May 2024
Booking was easy and post booking communications good. The day was kept to schedule and Sara was a great guide talking us through the flora and fauna and history of the levadas. It all may for a very enjoyable day.

Narrow forest pathways overcrowded with hundreds of people all day long

Christina_C, Apr 2024
The natural setting of the waterfalls does not allow for big groups of people. Passing hundreds of tourists on a narrow walkway turned this nature hike into a crazy unpleasant experience. I could as well go to the Times square.

Great tour

Sren_H, Feb 2024
Great tour guide snd lovely tour. Weather could have been better but thats also the only minus. Remember rain jacket and warm clothes.

Great day of hiking!

Holly_J, Feb 2024
Great day of hiking and our guide was informative, funny, and engaging. Gorgeous scenery and terrain. A note for folks over 60: this hike is likely best for above-average fitness for this age group due to stair climbing (20+ stories of stairs up and down) and uneven surfaces to walk. The pace isn’t a challenge but the terrain can be for some.

Stunning views with a superb guide

Donna_R, Feb 2024
Our guide Sara was excellent from start to finish. Two days of rain meant the walk wasn’t straightforward, but that also meant we saw the most awesome, full waterfalls and navigated some large puddles along the way. Be prepared for all weather like the information says. Even though our feet got a little wet the day was one of the best of our trip. The views were stunning, Sara was a very informative guide who clearly had a passion for her homeland. We thoroughly enjoyed our walk from start to finish and would definitely do it again on another visit. Highly recommended!!!!

Well worth it for the scenery alone.

A beautiful walk through mountain scenery following the levadas, with waterfalls on route. Charlotte was a great guide, taking care of everyone on the walk.

Very pleasant day out...

jacqueline_b, Oct 2023
Very pleasant day out with a very helpful , informative guide Charlotte. Thank you for a wonderful trip

Good day out.

Martyn_S, Sep 2023
This was our first levada walk. The weather was against us, so hampered our experience eg no views at any viewpoints. The guide was very good and looked after the group. The waterfall and fountains are lovely, so many people there made it slightly underwhelming, together with the rain. The walk itself is interesting and I would describe as a moderate walk with some steep stairs to climb up and down. This was a good day out, we were picked up and dropped off as agreed and had no hassle or pressure, quite a relaxing day.

Great walk through the forest

Andrew_C, Jul 2023
Charlotte was an excellent guide and was very knowledgeable about the area and the flora and fauna. A great day.

Lovely Levada hike

Karyl_M, Apr 2023
Lovely Levada walk Charlotte was an excellent guide Easy paced, interesting, must do walk and time for lunch

Very long slow day

VENU_S, Apr 2023
Too slow and too many frequent stops. The group was too large for just one guide although she tried her best on a very busy day in the Rabacal area. We were very disappointed to only stay 5 minutes in main fountain and then have to eat just off footpath uncomfortably in the trees. Felt we could’ve managed on our own easier.

Stine_L, Mar 2023
It was an magical hike along the levada. We were able to enjoy lunch with an amazing view at the waterfall 25 fontanas. The tour guide made the hike even more enjoyable and his knowledge made it a delightful day. I would do the tour again.

Great levada hike with the best guide!

Charlotte_P, Nov 2022
Amazing guide (Sara) and driver (Diamantino)! Loved it!!! Great insight, felt safe at all times and really enjoyed the hike.

Nice experience

Jade_B, Sep 2022
Good place to start Levadas. Charlotte was an excellent guide ! The only issue with this trips is that there were a lot of people, but that cannot be avoided I guess

Stunning views

Nancy_D, Jul 2022
This was the most beautiful walk through lush forest areas and natural water falls. There are fre words to describe how magnificent it is. A must do for visitors and those who live in the area.

A must-do when in...

Mihaela_M, Jul 2022
A must-do when in Madeira. Not a difficult walk and the views were amazing. Very nice and informative guide and top journey through probably the most beautiful levada on the island.

Perfect walk

Doris_B, Jul 2022
I had a nice and easy walk with the fantastic tourguide Charlotte and a nice group. Wonderful nature but of cause many people around. Nevertheless worth to do

Forest walk

Mary_R, May 2022
A pleasant walk. Ruby, our guide, was great and very informative about the area/flora/fauna etc. However it is a very popular walk and is very busy with lots of groups.

Fabulous views, great day out!

Sarik_J, Apr 2022
Everything ran on-time and they picked us up from our hotel, not a pick up point, which was perfect! The walk was at a good pace- for all ages- We stopped quite a bit to re-group and to talk about the various plants which are indigenous to Madeira, so we learned quite a bit too. The group leader spoke French and English. The mini-bus that picked us up was very clean, comfortable and in good condition. They dropped us off, with our leader, at the top of the walk, and the best thing was, we were picked up, at the bottom, so we didn't have to walk up a bunch of steps and do the whole tour back up again. The waterfalls were magnificent, the views were stunning and no mosquitos! We took lunch, drink and snacks with us, so we had that there, by the waterfall. There are no loos, so you need to go in the woods. The paths are all following the Levada, which was carved out to bring water for habitation and agriculture, such as sugar cane production. Highly recommend this walk for great pics, breathe in clean air and we got in about 18,000 steps. A day well spent!

Amazing day

Fantastic day. The guide was knowledgeable and the views spectacular . Well worth a visit. Thank you

Rabaçal Levada Walk

Dmytro_K, Aug 2021
It is easy walks, I think. It's about 15 km, but a levada with a good track and in the shadow area. Sometimes you will have a good climb and descent. And you can have uncomfortable sitiation with a queue.

Fantastic

Eva_V, Jul 2021
Such a beautiful walk! We had a very nice guide, Sara. She knows a lot to tell about Madeira, and cares about the safety of her group. The walk itself is easy to do. Very nice sights, and ofcourse the waterfalls were amazing. Definitely recommend this walk!

Perfect

Peter_R, Apr 2021
