Auschwitz and Birkenhau
We had originally booked for an early morning visit but this was later changed to an afternoon visit by the provider as the morning visits were prioritised for school pupil visits. We were picked up from our hotel about 12:30 in a mini bus taxi, we were the first pick up and there three other pick ups, the roads were busy in the city. Auschwitz is a fair distance from Krakow and I believe that we were behind time due to the amount of traffic. On arrival at Auschwitz, I believe that our allocated tour guide was not available but a replacement was quickly found, who may have also carried out an earlier trip that morning, I believe that her name was Magdalen. You are given headsets and she takes you through the experience with genuine and complete heartfelt passion with immense knowledge that embraces you, and immerses you in the horrors that these poor souls endured. As a listener the whole day was emotionally exhausting, for Magdalen whose first language is not English, we can only marvel at her fortitude to do this every day. The house of the Camp Commandant Rudolf Hoss (as seen in the film ‘The Zone of Interest’)is still there but I don’t believe that you can visit it, however rather appropriately you can see it from the place he was subsequently hanged for his crimes. Birkenhau is only a short trip away from Auschwitz and when we arrived the evening was already closing in with the temperature dropping. At Birkenhau you see more places that you have only ever seen in news pictures and films , the site where the trains came in, the routes that columns of people walked to where selection for life or death was made, the huts (stables) where people lived and died . The site is unbelievably immense in size , it is really quite harrowing, bleak and sobering. Our tour guide said that the best sunsets that she had ever seen have been at Birkenau, on our visit the evening was drawing in and there was a beautiful early spring sunset. In the fading light you could see columns of visitors in the distance, walking respectfully in the steps and memory of those that have now gone. The horrors of this place are unimaginable and the thought of what humans can do to other humans is beyond belief, it is place that everyone should experience.

There is a lot of walking so be prepared for it. The tour itself is one of the most humbling experiences I've ever had. The guide was very good excellent English so all the information was very easy to take in. All in all this was a very good experience would recommend it to anyone.

Visiting Auschwitz is something I feel everyone should do. It’s a piece of history so appalling, and unthinkable, but it happened and we must never forget. We should bear witness and pay our respects to the people who lost their lives, as well as those who lived to tell the tale.
Our tour guide Joanna was very informative, she didn’t rush us though and is a natural guide.
Our driver Tomasz arrived on time and was very friendly. He also took the time to send us recommendations of places to eat via WhatsApp.
Although the pick up time is early, this allows you to beat the traffic and crowds while also having time to decompress and reflect afterwards. A harrowing, yet necessary experience.

Pickup was on time, trip was well organised.only 8 of us in the van which was comfortable .Only thing I would say is the tour group at auschwitz can be quite large (max 30 people). Overall we seen everything and our tour guide did explain everything well. Would have been nice to have had maybe 1 or 2 hours to walk around birkenau on our own to explore a bit more. But overall it was good.

We preordered the lunch bag which was excellent value.

Good informative tour but felt a little rushed, we had around 2 hours at Auschwitz’s and 1 at Birkenau. Whilst the guide explained a lot, there wasn’t much time to take in the written information and no free time to wander about. A good packed lunch was provided at a fee.

Regarding the pace of the tour, the time spent at Auschwitz and Birkenau is determined by the official entry slots and the schedule set by the Museum. Guided tours usually follow a fixed route and timing so that all groups can move through the site smoothly, which unfortunately means there is limited opportunity for free time to explore independently.
For guests who would prefer a slower pace with more time to read the exhibitions and reflect at their own speed, we often recommend considering a private tour option in the future. These tours are significantly more expensive, but they allow for a guide dedicated only to your group and more flexibility during the visit.

Booked the Auschwitz tour, doesn’t time using Viator and I have to say it was so easy. From the booking right through to the tour guide, transport.
Very insightful, the tour was very sad but extremely well explained

I cannot recommend this trip enough. 24hrs before the trip, I was contacted to let us know our departure time. We were also given the option for a packed lunch for £12 each ( would recommend this) you can pay by card or cash on the day of the trip.
The trip in Auschwitz 1 was excellent, we didn’t queue and the guide was extremely knowledgeable (2 hours). We then drove over to Birkenau (5 mins) where we had lunch on the way and walked over. Again a very knowledgeable trip (hour).
Anthony the driver organised everything and we felt it was great value for money. Another mention to the tour guide, he was incredible and really allowed us to capture the experience of how prisoners were treated.

I can’t recommend this trip enough and the cost was value for money as included hotel pick up, taxi and entry. We were also offered the option for a packed lunch at a reasonable price. Our driver and guide Igor was brilliant and his tour was informative and well paced. From start to finish they were a pleasure to deal with. The whole trip include commuting was around 7 hours and we were informed of this prior so we were well prepared.

You won’t regret booking a smaller van for this day trip. I felt like the guide could keep a better watch for us all getting back on the bus compared to the coach loads of people. They also kindly offered to organise a lunch for us.

We received notification the day before, of a 6.05am pick up from our hotel in Krakow. The very early start was to avoid traffic and queues apparently. Our hotel staff very kindly provided breakfast boxes for us as we were too early for the hotel breakfast.
We arrived at Auschwitz at 7.30am where we could use the bathroom before joining the short queue for security checks. Our driver explained our itinerary clearly and handed us over to a local tour guide. We were shown round in a group of 20 with other groups just ahead and behind. The guide was a lovely lady, very informative, and talked us through each part of the tour. We had to move at a steady pace, rather than at our own pace. At times we felt we'd like to spend more time looking at and reading information boards, but we had to keep up with our own guide.
The tour takes you inside several buildings but a lot of time is spent outside. It's a lot of walking and there are steps and places of uneven ground.
After the first part of the tour, in the 10 minute break, we could visit the small café for drinks and snacks and there was a variety of vending machines. We then met up with our driver for the short journey to Birkenhau.
This second part of the tour is again quite a walk, and mostly outside.
There is a lot to see and take in and we felt it was very well organised and respectful.
We were back in Krakow city by 13.00hrs.

Watched so many documentaries before we went and had mixed feelings about going but people said they were glad they went, however our tour guide really spoiled the experience, he rushed us around so fast we didn’t get any time to process any of it, when we came out of one building where the wall was where they were shot, he didn’t stop or point it out, just rushed us past. I would have liked a moment to remember those and give respect but no. In the gas chamber he said we’d have 1 minute of silence, we weren’t even in there for 20 seconds and he abruptly pointed up to the ceiling, it all happened so fast later I realised he was pointing to the hole in the ceiling there they were poised. I wanted to go there to remember them and to respect them but this did not happen with the guide we had. I would definitely recommend going and glad we did but unfortunately the guide ruined it for us. A lot of people we spoke to said we were unlucky to have a bad guide and said there experience was exactly what went there for.

We would like to kindly clarify that the museum guides are assigned directly by the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and we do not have any influence over which guide is provided on the day. Each day we work with different licensed guides who are allocated to the group by the Museum. For this reason, feedback regarding the guiding itself is best shared on the official Museum website, as they are responsible for the guiding service and its quality.
As a transport and tour organiser, our role is to ensure smooth communication, comfortable travel and proper organisation of your visit, and we are glad that you still felt the experience of being there was important and worthwhile.
For guests who prefer a slower pace and a more personal way of visiting, there is also the option of booking a private tour. This type of visit is approximately four times more expensive, but it allows you to have a guide exclusively for your group and to experience the Memorial at your own pace.

Great communication prior and up to the day of the trip. We were picked up at 6.55am and back around 1.15pm so we took lunch but didn't eat it there so didn't need to take it. We did take breakfast to eat on the way there.
Tour guide was very knowledgeable and clearly passionate and respectful. It was quite fast paced at times but there's lots to fit in.

Travelled Wed 18th Feb 26. Temperature -4. I should of had a warmer coat. Make sure you either order your packed lunch or take previsions. You are on your feet from the minute you get out of your transport. Very interesting and very moving. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour was well looked after.
