We booked a private tour with Claudio as he has great reviews, and he offered an experience that looked a perfect match for our love of walking, talking, eating and drinking. We were not disappointed!
At the pace of a gentle stroll through some beautiful woodland, we chatted away with Claudio about Madeiran life, history, landscape, 'drunk uncles' - and more.
As for the poncha and cooking our own meat on a stick: that didn't disappoint either!
This tour is perfect for tourists who prefer to identify as curious travelers. It's informative, not a lecture; it's relaxed, but not boring. It's right up our street, just our cup of tea, and one that you would happily do again the very next day..

Our guide Claudio took us off the beaten track following the Levada on a 6km hike. He kindly gave us the option to shorten the hike, should we want to, to avoid a steep climb at the end. Following the hike we went to a local bar where we tried Poncha and then onto a local restaurant to grill beef skewers over an open fire - delicious! Claudio was very friendly and knowledgable and we would definitely join him again.

This is an absolute must do on Madeira. Hiking through the forest just two of us with our guide Claudio was amazing. Beautiful scenery and expert commentary on everything from plant life to historical info. Topped the day off with mouthwatering local delicacies like beef and sausage kabobs, polenta and Poncha (rum, honey, and lemon). If you want to enjoy the best of Madeira make sure to reach out to Claudio. You will not be disappointed!!

Had a fantastic hike with Claudio who is so passionate and knowledgeable about Madeira’s food, history, geography and culture. We learned so much during the hike and chatted like old friends, everything was paced well and Claudio was attentive to us and the surroundings. Would definitely recommend if you are looking to learn about Madeira in a local setting away from the touristy crowds. Hope to return for another hike with him!

Claudio was absolutely wonderful! This tour felt like experiencing Madeira with an old friend. We loved that it was private with just us & Claudio. From the amazing food and drinks in truly local pubs to the hike in the woods learning about Madeira's natural resources it was definitely off the beaten path and exactly what we were looking for. Claudio is born and raised in Madeira and is extremely knowledgeable about the island. His passion comes through in all the information that he shares. Cláudio was an excellent host and very easy to get along with and has some really interesting facts and stories to tell. We went on a really beautiful hike and away from the tourist hot spots. Had a lovely Poncha and the food at the end in an authentic local restaurant was amazing. Highly recommend!

Claudio was a fantastic guide, if you want a real lesson in Madeira history and local spots, you have to book this tour. Beautiful scenery, great Poncha, Espetadas, and a spontaneous trip through some very tight side streets with lots of extra insights into things to do. Claudio was fantastic and took great care of all of us as if we were family and we got to see parts of Madeira we never would have seen!

Me and my wife have done a few lavarda walks of different levels in our past visits to Madeira but this has to be the best one yet. It's an easy walk, which suits my wife ability but it was just so quiet. There was no one else around as its off the beaten track and Claudio made sure that my wife was comfortable where ever we walked. Claudio was very knowledgeable about both the surroundings and the environment which made it all the more interesting. The poncha and homemade crisps in the bar after the walk were to die for but the food in the restaurant was to die for. You had to cook your own kebabs which added to the fun. We cannot recommend this trip with Claudio enough and when we come back to Madeira next time, we will definitely be booking a trip with him again.

We had a great afternoon/evening with Claudio - starting with a brisk levada walk with no one else in sight except some friendly sheep! He was very knowledgeable about the island, including its flora and fauna. We ended the evening with a meal eating and drinking like locals (no tourists there) and even had a go at cooking our espadata on the hot coals ourselves! All in all, it was a fun and memorable few hours and it ended in being one of the highlights of my holiday.

This hike and lunch very much exceeded our expectations. Claudio was great. He went out of his way to accommodate our needs when our son joined us unexpectedly for the lunch. He also was a wealth of information on a multitude of subjects related to the natural surroundings that we traversed. The hike was also special because it was off path of the typical tourist hikes. We would highly recommend this excursion for anyone interest in learning about the local food and ecosystem.

Claudio was a fantastic guide and made the pickup and dropoff at our hotel a breeze. The hike was exactly what we were looking for (~5K) and Claudio offered to tailor the hike if we weren’t up for it. He was very knowledgeable about the woods and there was no one else walking the Levada he chose to walk along. We ate lunch at a great local spot with some delicious sangria. We ended the day with a poncha at a bar with some great atmosphere before heading back to the hotel. It was a great trip that we would recommend to anyone and Claudio was a great guide that we would use for our next hike in Madeira!

Una experiencia fantástica. Pudimos combinar excursiones de la mañana con esta de la tarde... un agradable sendero q nos mostró la naturaleza de Madeira, su fauna y sus ancestrales y modernas métodos de agricultura. Nuestro guía Claudio, experto senderista ... nos aclaro todas las dudas y nos facilito de manera muy amigable él acercamientos a esta tierra tan bonita....
Terminamos con una abundante cena en restaurante rural probando todo tipo de alimentos y bebidas típicos de la Isla... bendita PONCHA!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
