Used Carrani Tours/ I Love Rome previously so I knew communication would be lax but they'd come through in the end. The tour started with a train ride from Rome to Florence and included half a day sightseeing tour of Florence sights and then lots of free time. Carrani Tours put me up in a beautiful Hotel Corona d'Italia but I spend the duration of the trip chasing their office for information about my return to Rome as the tour guide who brought me to Florence knew nothing. Pisa tour departed from Florence and was meant to return there but the Tour Guide left 2 elderly ladies behind in Pisa as they got delayed between the meeting point and the bus. Instead of retracing her steps back to the meeting point the tour guide just waited by the bus for 20 minutes. The walk from the meeting point to the bus was quite treacherous and the ladies wouldn't have been able to find their way on their own. That was beyond unprofessional and heartless.

Be very aware of this tour. The description makes it sound like one tour guide is with you throughout the 3 days and they are not. Gray Line I Love Rome by Carrani Tours is the tour provider and I have to say it is the luck of the draw as to who you get for your guides throughout the 3 days. Depending where you stay we were in Rome you are picked up by the first guide our guide was Antonella, very eary 6:45am, who travels with you from Rome to Florence via the train. Dropped us off at our hotel then thats it. They are gone to leave you on your own. You are given a list for the next 3 days activities and where to meet. You need to get to these meeting points on your own.
We stayed at then Hotel De La Ville. It was in a wonderful area of Florence, very nice room and free breakfast. The posted itinerary changed and the trip to Pisa was the first day. So we needed to get ourselves to the bus station asap where you join another tour group of about 25 to 30 people total. Once at Pisa, you are handed off to another local tour guide who walks you thru the grounds.
So for us the first day was very long...train ride, then bus ride. Alot of traveling, very little site seeing.
The second day was the local Florence tour. Meeting place was the train station. Again you join an already established tour group. This was about 15-18 people. Stefano was our guide but he basically just walked us over to another guide, Favio. Favio was fantastic! His wealth of knowledge was amazing. Not only was he our guide for the city but also the Ufizi Gallery. He was the highlight of the entire 3 days. Lunch was at a local restaurant...nothing special.
The last day is basically on your own. We elected to stay an extra day. They did work with us to adjust our train ticket back to Rome.
So my main issue with this tour is that, in my opinion, you are given the impression that you are a single tour group with the same guide for the 3 days. When this is not the case. If you expect to be hand held on this tour do not book. If you dont mind some work on your own then you will be fine here.
Reading other reviews it appears some people had really good guides...others not so much. Honestly the guides can make or break the tour experience.

Felt rushed and I was forgotten about on the day 3, when it was time to get home to Rome.
Had to call and email them.
Schedule on the described Tour was also different from an actual schedule.

Extremely disorganized, particularly for those that stayed in hotels . Meeting times and places, hotel address and directions were incorrect and caused great stress and essentially ruined my experience.

Excellent guides. They went out of their way to accommodate us. The hotel room at the Corona d'Italia was comfortable and the desk personnel were courteous and helped us with some problems that we were having.

The Tourguides were taking a day trip group to Florence and had no details for us regarding our three-day trip. It took several calls and persistent questions for them to get the details for us regarding our next day trip to Pisa. That trip was at a different time and different meeting place than indicated in Viator write up on website. We had no details regarding our trip back to Rome. The local tour company finally called the evening before and told us that we would be picked up at hotel at 5pm the next day and that a tour representative would be waiting for us at the train terminal. The tranfer driver spoke very little English, but was able to communicate to us to go to the italio train lounge. We went there and waited and continued to look around for a tour representative. We checked with italio and there was no reservation under our names in their system. At eight minutes before the train was to depart we gave up looking for representative and bought tickets ourselves back to Rome. So my message to Viator is that this is the most disorganized tour I have taken through Viator!

We were put on the wrong bus heading to 3 day Naples tour. Put on a bus with 1 day Florence tour and put on train. Had 1 hr guided tour. Never taken to Hotel and had to find own way there. Never received tour itinerary even though we had went to Carrini tour office in rome 3 times before departure day, until we found and arrived at hotel. Hotel had a king size bed when we asked for two separate beds. Had to leave so they could separate king size bed into two twin beds. Hotel area was very noisy until 1.30 am (located above several bar/cafes) and then again 7:00 am. Paid alot for something that I could have done myself, since the guided tours were only for about 3 hrs (1 in florence in 2 in Pisa),ie: make my own hotel reservations in Florence, and paid for my own guided tours in florence and Pisa. There are people everywhere offering guided tours in Italy. Spent most of the 3 days on my own and last day itinary said to meet between 5-5:15 pm. Arrived at 430 pm and was almost left behind. Driver did come back and told me that he was told to pick us up at 430. Communication was the worst I have ever seen. Apparently me and my friend were the only ones that had scheduled the 3 day Florence/Pisa tour in English and they were not prepared for us. Paid to much for what was received. Could have all been done on my own much cheaper. Not worth half what I paid (about $560 per person (sharing a room). Recommend you plan this trip on your own.

Very friendly and good.
Will definitely book any tour from viator again.

I had the best time, the tour guides were very friendly, however I didn't realise I was being left on my own to join another tour. Had to make confirmation phone calls to know I was being picked up for return. But apart from that, totally enjoyed this tour
Boonserm_W, Jul 2013
Seem like doing my own tour. No plan for the tour. I have to call in all the time in order to know where to go next. There are three different tour companies with no coordination. The fist tour company put you in the taxi to the hotel. Then you call and find your way to the next tour company. Then you have to call to find out what to do next. The tour said three meals a day but there is only one meal on the first day. Probably pay half the price if you do on your own.

Our bookings had ALL meals and ALL entrance fees but this did not happened. We only had breakfast at the hotel and we had to purchase our own lunch and dinner also we had to pay our own entrance fee to climb the learning tower of Pisa. I am pretty disappointed by this.
Response from Host, Jun 2013
Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, as stated on our brochure page, not all meals were included in the cost of this tour. Only meals associated with the itinerary were to be included in the cost, where B=breakfast, L=lunch, and D=dinner. As you can see from the itinerary printed on the website, the first day was to include Lunch and the other two days only included Breakfast. As far as the entrance fees, we believe all entrance fees were to be included in this tour and we have referred your complaint over to our customer care team who is looking into this further, based on your concerns. Should they require any further information from you, they will be contacting you privately by email. We hope the rest of your tour was still enjoyable and thank you again for your feedback.

Terrible! The tour was very badly organised! I strongly suggest just organising it on your own as you will have more information and less stress!
The tour was actually a few seperate tours placed together rather than one flowing one
The first day started out okay. I was picked up from my hotel and then headed to Florence with a group. Then I found out I was the only one on the 3 day trip and the Guide put me in a taxi and sent me to my hotel after lunch at 4. The guide had no idea what my plans were for the next days so I left with no information at all. When I got to the hotel they didnt know anything either so I hat to call the tour office in Rome to get information.
Origionally on the second day I was supposed to only go to Pisa in the afternoon but luckily I called them because they changed it to the morning at 8:45 meet up instead.
On the last day, I had the morning free around Florence and was supposed to meet at a hotel (not the one I was staying in) at 4:15pm to head back to Rome on the bus.
Less than an hour before I was supposed to meet at the hotel I went back to my hotel to get my luggage to go to the meeting point and luckily I did because the tour group in Rome sent a fax to the hotel (Even though they have my phone number) telling me the meeting place is somewhere else at 5:15 instead.
So I took a taxi to the meeting place and waited there untill 5:50 (with no one in sight) when the people from the pharmacy I was waiting outside of came out to tell me that someone was on the phone with me. Turned out the place I was supposed to meet at was a different place with the same name. Then I got a call from the tour people in Rome telling me that I need to go to the train station and catch the train as it leaves in 6 minutes. they then proceeded to give me the wrong taxi number to catch a taxi. Luckily I made it to the station in time for the train. The last tour guide was very nice and helpful but thats the only good thing about this trip.

Valentina brought us to Florence. She was not as good as the other guides I had on my other trips. I wish there was more explanation about Florence. The local guide that brought us from Florence to Pisa and also the local guide at Pisa are very good. Recommend this trip, and if possible, stay longer.
Suty, May 2012
The overall tour was quite enjoyable. The problem is we have to keep calling the local tour to ask for the meeting point and time. We were not informed as promised

I traveled with my 80 year old mum to Florence and Pisa from Rome. The trip was very good, the guides were very clear and kind. The whole trip was perfect, on the first day the food in the restaurant was very good as well. I would have rated the trip as 5 stars, because everything was very good, however there was a lack of comunication when we arrived the hotel in florence, I did not know where to take the coach to go to Pisa the next day and nobody knew at the hotel, eventhough the guide told me that I was going to get my itinerary at the hotel. So I had to call Viator to get the information. Then when we came back from Pisa, I had to call again to know where to go the next day to go back to Rome. I would suggest that Viator should have prepared an itinerary and hand it to me on the first day, so I would know exactly what to do without stressing.

Third Day went wasted and the tour plan could have included Venice...
First Day: Florence and Pisa, Second Day: Venice, Third Day: Return to Rome would have been ideal
Yet staffs have been very helpful and friendly
Claudia M, Oct 2011
I had friendly, well qualified guides.I was impressed that Viator could put together the various programs from different companies. However, this created frustration as nobody knew the details of the next step and I had to have the hotel call around to get details so we could learn where and when to be at a location. .
Ron S, Oct 2010
Upgrade to the Baglioni Hotel in Florence proved most worthwhile in terms of location and amenities. The tour companies Viator provided were very helpful and supportive. Loved the free time in Florence and Pisa!
Raianna C, Sep 2010
I saw everything I wanted to see, but had a little more time in Florence than needed. The three star hotel was good.
