From Cusco, it took us five hours from our hotel lobby to walking into Machu Picchu. At first, the level of service was lacking. We were picked up in a large van. It was full and the seats were small. This is for the next 80ish minutes. I refer to these as cattle vans or cattle busses. At the train station, we had a table, but my wife's ticket was next to the window and I was across from her on the isle - both of us with strangers next to us. Not the end of the world, but that was an easy fix had the person buying the tickets paid attention. The part about getting breakfast and shopping- yeah, don't expect that. Hurry up, get in line, and wait. This isn't a reflection on the travel company - it's the nature of one of the 7th wonders being so remote. From there, Wilbur came into the scene. He was phenomenal! If it weren't for Wilbur, this would have been a 3 star rather than a 4 star. He is very knowledgeable and passionate. After 4ish hours, we get back to get some lunch and then repeat the process going home. After the train ride, we were greeted by the driver taking us back to Cusco. Just four of us this time with a spacious van. I already had Uber pulled up if I saw the cattle van was waiting for us. For $45, we would have taken an Uber. As a point of clarification, this is a small group private tour.
