Very nice tour, the team was experienced, ready to quickly solve any challenges. The hike is tough and you need a lot of focus to keep going. The view at the top is absolutely worth it, you can almost touch the energy surrounding the mountain. Breakfast and lunch were also good.

Such a great value for...

Such a great value for money experience ! You get a full day excursion including breakfast and lunch buffet, pickup and drop off in addition to the hike. Hike is gorgeous and very rewarding at the top. It does get crowded but the lake is vast enough to find good spots to enjoy it. Only downside would be the guide who wasn’t very keen and left us a bit on our own (couldn’t really find him at the top of the hike since I arrived much earlier than the rest and he didn’t signal himself for a gathering point). I would still greatly recommend this tour, which was very well organised from A to Z.

Stunning lake of the Andes

First up guide Johnathon and our driver were great 10/10. Next the breakfast and lunch at the same restaurant stop were delicious with a spectacular view over the mountain range. Humantay Lake was spectacular to see and I’m glad I made it. However, this was no easy hike. I wanted to give up many times throughout the hike. We were given poles which were absolutely necessary. There was the option to pay to get a horse up. In hindsight I should’ve done that. Must bring sunscreen, wide brim hat and wear long sleeve top. I got severely sunburnt with a T-shirt on. The lake is gorgeous once you reach it. Just be prepared for the mix of high altitude, steep rocky incline and tired legs.

Humantay is a rewarding trek

The view is spectacular. Be aware of the journey to get there. It’s a difficult walk up. Rick’s, steep hills, river and other natural obstructions. It’s worth paying $/90 for a horse up and $/80 for a horse down. You have a 30 mins walk before the horses and you have to travel on a very narrow path by foot on an edge of the mountain. It’s daunting to say the least but no regrets

Great place, super adventure, and our guide Franchesco was pretty solid in helping us hike up and down (and find alternatives by taking a horse as I got out of breath). Communication was well coordinated and we had breakfast and lunch included (which we badly needed after the intense hike). Everything was great other than the fact that the vehicle was not air conditioned. In the morning at 4am, they gave us blankets (and thank god for that) because it was cold but I wonder why they didn’t have heating on and similarly in the afternoon, when the temperatures rose, we didn’t have cooling / air conditioning work! If we were told that the vehicle would be air conditioned, that should have been the case!

Great Hike - Terrible Agency! Use INKA ALTITUDE

Terrible agency would not recommend. i booked a tour with Inka Altitude who are the BEST agency in cusco, two days prior and it was brilliant (sacred valley). I then wanted to visit Humantay Lake and Inka Altitude didnt have space so i booked using chullos travel. Instead of arriving at 4am, we waited in the lobby until 5am, nobody arrived. i texted them multiple times and they ddint respond and when they did, they told me they had an issue and to wait in our rooms, no ETA etc. after multiple chasers, they turned up 2 hours late at 6am. We went for breakfast (and lunch later which i wont mention) which is the same between almost all tour agencies and was ok, no complaints. We then got to the base of the hike at Humantay base camp. We asked if we could get horses on the way up as its 30 min instead of 2 hours, but we forgot cash. It was our fault. We asked the guide if we could borrow and he said he didnt have any else would lend us. it was fine, our mistake and we hiked up. From then it was downhill, guess what, since they were 2 hours late in the AM, where did they try and make this up? yes you guessed right, on the hike. Humantay lake is a difficult hike, at altitude and very steep alot of the time. The whole point to book via a guide is because they are there to support you, guide you and help at your own pace. It was rushed. The way up was fine as we were all pretty fast, we were back of the group but 5 min later than the rest. We only got to spend 1 hour at the Humantay lake given it was delayed, then the guide said we needed to leave as we were already late and needed to make lunch otherwise we would miss lunch. Then the guide came up to us and said, "honestly i dont think we will make lunch so you will have to get a horse". The horse is 35 USD per person and the way down is only 1hour and easier than the way up which is 2h30 mins, hence we wanted to get a horse up and hike down. Then he said "when we get back to town, you can pay me back, i will pay him the cash now". I was LIVID. We wanted to borrow cash, just for one horse and he could have said sorry but i wont borrow instead he lied, made us rush and then said he had cash for two and we can pay him back? i told him its fine we would pay but will complain to the agency, he has ruined the tour and he got worried and told us to hike down it was fine. we were 5-10mins behind the group. nothing groundbreaking. overall would not recommend, its one of the best things to see but was ruined by a late pickup and being rushed. but i have to say HUMANTAY LAKE IS AMAZING, definitely worth visiting, with a reputable agency.

Incredible value! Amazing guide and unique experience

I was picked up by a nice high top van at 4am outside my hotel. We then travel a couple of hours, have a nice buffet breakfast, and then continue the ride to the trail head. Our guide Heber is amazing. I actually was with him the day prior for Rainbow mountain. Heber explained everything clearly. I chose to ride the horse up, 90 soles. Once I got off the horse, it is a 15 minute hike to the lake. We spent a bit of time alone for pictures, and then the group gathered and Heber gave us some background info of the place, and a nice group picture. We hiked back down, rode to the same restaurant and had a buffet lunch. We had a mechanical issue with our van. But it was quickly sorted out as the company has 3 vans. The group was split and got on the other 2 vans. We rode back to Cusco and got dropped off at the main plaza. The experience is incredible especially when you consider the extremely low price I paid for the tour. Heber forever lol

An absolutely incredible experience. The walk was challenging, but every step was worth it when you reached the Humantay Lagoon. The turquoise color of the water and the snowy mountains around create a spectacular landscape that looks like it was taken from a postcard. Hike was OK, tour guide was terrible

Do not book with this company! The tour guide followed and disparaged my family the entire way up and down the mountain for hiking slightly slower (~5 min behind) than most of the group. This was a once-in-a-lifetime, milestone achievement for my family and I to celebrate my parents’ wedding anniversary and mine and my husband’s first wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, being heckled and told they were going to leave us on the mountain if we didn’t take a tuk-tuk down really put a damper on this moment. Our tour guide, Wilfredo, then insulted us once we got back to the bus. On top of this, my husband and my mother were both ill the day after the trip from the terrible food and uncomfortable transport. In short, 4 stars for the hike as we had to avoid dust thrown up from cars and horses on the trail, and 0 stars for Wilfredo and this company. Stay away!

This hike is no joke - short but strenuous and uphill. There is an option to take a horse on the way up as well. Franchesco was a great guide, ensuring that the whole group was comfortable and included. Highly recommend this hike, the lake with the scenery around is unbeatable.

The hike is no joke it is very steep. The hike from the bus to get a horse is still quiet the haul depending on where your bus parks. Rocky terrain that requires careful navigation. We took the horse and it was great still a small hike up after the horses but the view is phenomenal. Our guide herber was excellent even took pics for us. Hike down was a little tight to make it on time to the bus. Mostly because of loose rock.

wilbert was great! he made sure everyone was okay and stayed with members of the group that needed extra help, which in this case was us😅 he never left anyone behind and he gave us enough time up on lake humantay to take pictures and recover before going down. he even took our pictures and sent the ones he took on his phone to the group. the tour was organized and on time, except the pick up wherein they were 35 minutes late. but the free breakfast and lunch were great! provided us color coded hiking sticks so we could tell who was part of our group and who wasnt. overall amazing experience!

Amazing sacred mountain lake

Just finished today's excursion and it has been very beautiful. Though I initially had difficulties to get in contact with the organizing agency and needed to go via Viator customer support, once I could communicate with them, everything went very smoothly and satisfying. It's probably mentioned in other reviews, one should absolutely factor in the rental of a horse, especially going up to the lake. The hike is very steep and demanding which can easily turn a potentially amazing excursion sour, if you get exhausted and fight with high altitude sickness symptoms instead of taking in the beautiful scenery all around. The little mountain stream you find next to the path is a little marvel all by itself. Jonathan was a very caring, professional and entertaining guide who did a great job and we were also blessed with a very gentle driver, Cirio, who made us feel very safe so that we could get some needed rest before and after the hike.

We had such an amazing experience on this tour! Wally was a wonderful guide, very kind and attentive, and he made the whole day enjoyable. Everything was well organized, with timely pickup and drop-off. The hike itself was absolutely stunning, and we got really lucky with perfect weather, which made the experience even better. You also have the option to take a horse up the mountain if you are unsure about the hike. We chose to ride up just for the experience, and it was incredible. It is such a unique way to take in the Andes. At the top, Wally gave us plenty of time to take photos and even pointed out the best spots for pictures. Afterward, we did a short meditation to connect with nature, which was a really special touch. We were also lucky enough to see condors and even a rainbow, which made the day feel extra magical. Breakfast and lunch were at a restaurant with an amazing view, which was another highlight. Overall, it was an unforgettable day with a fantastic guide. Highly recommend!

Very organized tour. We had great meals, comfortable ride and our guide, Tito, was very friendly and helpful. The lake is amazing and totally worth the trip. One of us used a horse for the steep climb.
