After an hour-long ride, walk the rest of the way—one mile (1.5 kilometers)—to the viewpoint, arriving before the crowds since you skipped the hike. Here, you can take in the views of the colorful mountain and snap photos to your heart’s content.
Ride back down to the ATV pickup point where a delicious lunch awaits. Then, enjoy the scenery on your ride back to Cusco, where you are dropped off at your original departure point.

I recently did the Rainbow Mountain ATV tour, and it was absolutely incredible! From start to finish, everything was well organized and full of fun. Our guides, Arturo and Yadira, made the experience even better — they were professional, friendly, and full of energy.
The ATV ride through the Andes was breathtaking, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, colorful valleys, and stunning views all along the route. Arturo and Yadira made sure everyone felt safe and confident on the ATVs, as well as saved me multiple times from altitude sickness.
What really stood out to me was how caring and thoughtful they both were. My boyfriend accidentally left his jacket behind at a restaurant after the tour, and Arturo went out of his way to retrieve it the next day — he even managed to get it back to us just in time for our next tour! That level of kindness and dedication truly went above and beyond.
When we reached the top of Rainbow Mountain, Yadira and Arturo helped us capture incredible photos and made sure everyone had time to enjoy the view. The combination of adventure, scenery, and their genuine hospitality made this experience one of the highlights of our trip.
If you’re visiting Cusco and want to experience Rainbow Mountain in a fun and memorable way, I can’t recommend the ATV tour with Arturo and Yadira!

We had the best day on this tour! We were picked up from our hotel in Cusco at 6:30 am and traveled by van to the Rainbow Mt car park. On the trip to and from Cusco, we stopped at a great restaurant and were served breakfast and lunch. Once we arrived at the car park, we drove ATVs about 35ish minutes up the mountains. The views were absolutely incredible! You leave your ATV and hike the short hike to the vista point. We took pictures with ‘sexy’ llamas and alpacas—our guide joked that they were called that because of their cute sunglasses. You can also pay 5 sols to take pictures standing on the hands with great views of the mountains. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is interested!
Great experience! The quad bikes added a fun twist to the trip, and seeing Rainbow Mountain in person was even better than expected. Definitely worth doing.
Long bus ride but totally worth it. Got there before the crowds showed up, and had plenty of time on the mountain. Highly recommend!
As advertised, fantastic experience, with long bumpy van rides. We picked a day in August with great weather and minimum high clouds.
Don’t be fooled into picking a tour that goes to Palccoyo instead.
Be ready to wake up early. It's actually worth it so you avoid the larger crowds. Also, make sure you've had time to acclimate to the altitude before you go on this tour. We returned to Cusco from Machu Picchu the day before, and while in Cusco still got a slight annoying headache. I saw a few people throwing up. It can be a lot, so just prepare yourself. We had a great experience!
This was a really early start (and I doubted, at first this decision) However, it was the best decision! Pickup at our hotel was around 3am but we slept a bit in the van. After the stops to pick up up passengers, we journeyed a few hours where stopped for breakfast. Then we headed one more hour to the base camp of the ATVs. The sun was dawning and it was cold. Bring hats, gloves and a winter coat . We were outfitted with the atv and headed to Rainbow Mtn. - so much Fun! About 20 minute ride . At Rainow Mtn, we were given some time to walk around to the different pictures sights &just take it in. I will say there were no crowds at this time so it was very serene. Perfect blue skies graced our day.
After our Atv back (again so much fun and better than walking) we boarded the van and stopped for lunch at the same place for breakfast. A little bumper to lumper traffic back into Cusco slowed us down a little. But I must say that arriving back in the early afternoon gave us the whole day to keep exploring Cusco :)
This was a great excursion and highly recommend if the early departure isn’t a factor. It was awesome to see Rainbow Mtn before all the crowds showed up and it was a wonderful sight to see and experience.
This tour was absolutely amazing and was one of the highlights of our trip to Peru! We chose the 6:30 AM ATV tour and our pickup was around 6, and everything was extremely well organized from start to finish.
A huge thank you to our guides, Rojelio and Yadira, and our driver/ATV guide, Arturo. They truly made the experience unforgettable.
Rojelio brought such great energy to the group from the moment we were picked up. He was incredibly kind, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable, and he kept everyone engaged throughout the entire day. You could tell he genuinely cared that everyone was having a great experience, and his positive attitude made the tour even more enjoyable.
A special thank you to Yadira, who went above and beyond for my mom. She was nervous about the altitude, and Yadira stayed with her, checked on her throughout the hike, reassured her, and made sure she was comfortable the entire time. The guides also carried oxygen, which gave everyone extra peace of mind. Her kindness, patience, and genuine care allowed my mom to enjoy the experience.
The guides safely guided us on the ATVs, explained everything clearly, and made everyone feel comfortable riding, even those with little or no ATV experience.
The day started with hotel pickup, followed by breakfast at a beautiful restaurant with stunning mountain views, clean restrooms, and plenty of vegetarian options. After breakfast, we learned how to ride the ATVs before heading up the mountain.
The ATV ride itself was incredible and is definitely the best way to experience Rainbow Mountain. At the end of the ATV route, local motorcycle drivers take you the final section up the mountain. From there, you can either take a very easy 5-minute flat walk or about a 10-minute uphill walk to the main viewpoint.
After visiting Rainbow Mountain, we rode the ATVs to an amazing Andes viewpoint where we learned more about the surrounding mountain range and local history. We then returned to the restaurant for a delicious lunch before heading back to Cusco.
Everything was extremely well organized, the scenery was breathtaking, and the entire staff genuinely cared about making sure everyone had a great experience. I would recommend this tour 100% to anyone visiting Rainbow Mountain. The ATV option makes the experience much more enjoyable while still allowing you to take in all of the incredible views.
If you're trying to decide how to visit Rainbow Mountain, this is absolutely the way to do it!
Long trip to and from Cusco 3hrs each way Quad bike experience was good. 20 mins to and from Rainbow mountain. Had 40 mins at the view point. Long day but view was worth it. Take hat and gloves but wasnt too cold. Food waa poor at the restaurant so take snacks.
Rainbow mountain is spectacular to see in person. The views were outstanding. Riding the ATV and motorcycles to the almost top was a much easier alternative than hiking. The altitude makes hiking difficult! Dress really warm, it was cold and windy at the top.
Our guides were knowledgeable and friendly. It is a long day with about a 3 hour drive each way.
We were really looking forward to our Rainbow Mountain tour, but unfortunately the pickup experience turned what should have been an amazing day into a very frustrating one.
Our original pickup time was 3:30 AM. The day before the tour, the company changed it to 3:00–3:15 AM and sent the update through WhatsApp. Unfortunately, I never saw the message because I rarely use WhatsApp and did not have notifications turned on while traveling.
At 3:05 AM, the tour guide called while we were still getting ready. We rushed down to the hotel lobby and got there around 3:15 AM, but the tour had already left. When I called the guide, he told us we would have to take a taxi and catch up with the group ourselves.
We decided not to miss the tour, so with the help of our hotel staff, we spent a long time coordinating with the guide about where to meet them. In the end, we were told to meet the group at their breakfast stop, nearly two hours away. We had to pay 255 soles for a taxi just to catch up with the tour, arriving right as the group was about to leave.
This was honestly one of the most stressful travel experiences we’ve had. The guide apologized several times and said it was a miscommunication, but we never really understood why the group couldn’t wait a few more minutes for us, especially when the pickup time had been changed at the last minute.
What made it even harder to accept was what happened later. After the Rainbow Mountain hike, the entire group waited about 30 minutes for another guest who returned late. That felt very unfair to us. We were left behind because of a five-minute delay after a schedule change we didn’t even know about, yet the group was willing to wait half an hour for someone else.
I understand that mistakes happen, and I do believe the guide realized he made one. However, the consequences for us were significant. Being left behind and then having to spend two hours and 255 soles chasing the tour was simply not acceptable. It added a lot of unnecessary stress to what should have been an enjoyable experience.
Rainbow Mountain itself was beautiful, but unfortunately this experience left a very negative impression of the tour company.
I would do this again in a heart beat! This entire experience was well packaged, seamlessly coordinated and well paced. The host was very warm and friendly and super responsive. There was a slight change to the time on our itinerary and that was communicated well in advance. In any event, that change made the experience even more worthwhile! It was definitely an adrenaline filled tour that made me crave more! We got to rainbow mountain without the difficulty of a hike but still had the opportunity to hike parts of it, if we opted to. I enjoyed myself and would recommend !
Amazing ATV tour to Rainbow Mountain! The ride itself was an adventure with incredible views the whole way. Our guide, Jose Luis, was fantastic. Everything was very well organized. We felt very safe the entire time. Rainbow Mountain was absolutely stunning in person, and this was one of the highlights of our trip!
I was debating between hiking Rainbow Mountain and taking this tour... and I'm so grateful I picked the ATVs! The views were absolutely breathtaking, the ride super fun & the staff kind and helpful.
We expected to have to hike the last bit and were surprised when they had locals on dirt bikes drive us instead (this wasn't mentioned). I personally enjoyed it, but I know some of my travel peers didn't enjoy that part as much.
I also highly recommend doing the 8 am start time, as there were barely any people on the mountain when we went. 100% worth it!
The guides were so special. They had such great energy and felt like family. I am grateful they were part of the experience because they made it so enjoyable.
Sergio was a great host. It was both of our first time on an ATV and we felt safe the entire time. Would def recommend.
Great experience and overall clear communication with the company running the experience.
Got the 6am time slot and it wasn’t over crowded at all.
We got picked up then headed to breakfast, after that we headed to the atv site and took them almost all the way up. Once there it’s a short 10-15 min walk.
After we went back to the same place for lunch, buffet style for both. After lunch we headed back to get dropped off.
It was a long day but Valerio was a great guide. The mountains were beautiful! The lunch stop was ok. Doing this the day after Machu Picchu was maybe not the best idea. So much time traveling in 2 days.
Roy was great. He was very attentive. I'd never been on an ATV before, and we were provided instructions and time to practice. On the ride up we passed lama, alpacas, and lakes. The colors on the mountains were beautiful.
*Roy's name is longer in Spanish, but he said we could call him Roy.
If you don’t mind sitting in a cramped shuttle van for 8 hours with 14 other people some of whom smell like an old motel room that allowed smoking for 40 years and never changed their bedding or curtains, then this will be a 5-star experience. The ATV ride up Rainbow Mountain was beautiful. Despite it snowing and most of Rainbow Mountain muted due to cloud cover, the 2 hours spent riding up and at the peak were fun. Then there was the 8 hour ride from Cusco and back. Single lane Peruvian roads with ample speed bumps and potholes. Drivers constantly swerving back and forth. It’s amazing no one got car sick.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable time on our quadbike tour. The journey to and from Rainbow Mountain enabled us to see more of Peru. Our guide, Cristian, ensured that we were informed of pick up details before the day and, throughout the excursion, checked that we were coping with the elevation. I recommend this tour to anyone wishing to view Rainbow Mountain.
Actually driving the ATV and rainbow mountain was great. The 3 hours there with lunch and 3 hours back without a stop was too long. Definitely needed a stretch break with Cusco traffic.
Nicely organized tour opparator. Took 8:30 am slot . Less crowded at the top. Luis was a excellent guide
Great Tour, went all the way to the summit to have a great view of rainbow mountain and the surrounding snow capped peaks.
Our guide Roy was awesome, he made sure everybody was ok and kept us informed of everything.
I did not have my phone with me, but Roy let me borrow his phone to take all the pictures I wanted. That’s awesome customer Service.
Take altitude meds if you’re feeling off prior to this tour 🥴
Without a doubt, take this tour, it’s the best one out there. It leaves earlier than the rest, so you reach the mountain when there’s no one else around. They’re punctual and very professional. Everything is perfectly organized. Honestly, it’s the best tour I’ve done in all of Peru. José Luis, the guide, explains everything clearly—what you’ll do, when, and how long each part takes (about 2 hours to breakfast, then another hour to the base of the mountain where the quads are). He also takes photos for you… 10/10.
Long drive but atv to top was fun and beautiful
Would do it again. The guides were great and very attentive. The meals were s bonus did not expect that
Everyone should just take this way up the mountain. Being able to ride thru Peru on a quad is an epic experience we will never forget. The guides took care of us the whole way. Worth it!!
My wife and I did the quad bike tour to Rainbow Mountain and it was honestly an incredible experience from start to finish. Riding the quads through the landscape was a lot of fun and made the journey itself just as memorable as the destination. The scenery along the way is beautiful, and reaching Rainbow Mountain in person is even more impressive than the photos.
Everything was very well organized and run smoothly. The guides were friendly, professional, and made sure everyone was comfortable and safe while still keeping the day fun and relaxed. The pace was just right, with plenty of time to enjoy the views, take photos, and really take it all in.
This ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. It’s a fantastic way to experience Rainbow Mountain, and I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone looking for something a bit more adventurous and memorable than the standard trip.
If you book the first slot you will be there before the big crowds and can enjoy the view in peace as well as take nice pictures. Watch the locals get their alpacas ready for the crowds.
Can’t stress altitude acclimation enough. This activity is at 15,000ft elevation. Be prepared for cold wet weather, at this altitude weather can change in a minute. The mountain was beautiful and the guides were very attentive. Lunch was a little subpar but everything else was fine.
The tour was excellent, and very adaptable to weather and other conditions. This was a great trip from Cusco.
