Definitely recommend doing a free walking tour on your first morning. It’s a great way to have a quick overview of the main sights and get your bearings. Made us realise that most of Budapest is walkable. Our guide, Sau, was friendly and funny and gave us so many interesting facts about everywhere.

Viator’s Great Guides

Wendy_E, Apr 2026
Our guide was excellent and very informative and helpful. We have used viator before with a guide in Paris and it was excellent also.

Thank you Rebecca!

Vittorio_F, Apr 2026
Never seen such a committed passionate tour guide !Thanks Rebecca for the wonderful experience!👏👏🍾🍾

An excellent way to start your stay in Budapest!

Marcia_L, Dec 2025
This is a great tour! The guides are delightful, knowledgeable and engaging. By chance, I took the tour twice, and guides Juan and Claudia each made their tour special and exciting. • Please note that this is the same tour that the Big Bus includes with their ticket price. (and yes, I was fine to take the tour twice, as the guides make it special, and there is so much to see and experience). • Please consider writing reviews and tipping to support these wonderful guides. • (I believe this tour is also available free through LUNA TOURS- with the purple umbrellas. Please support the tour companies and the guides)

Worthwhile!

Walk around Pest

Pia_J, Sep 2025
Rebecca led an insightful walking tour of Pest, and her knowledge of the city's history and architecture was impressive. The tour covered many fascinating sights, but be prepared for the summer heat. Rebecca liked to walk through some of the unshaded, open areas, so I recommend bringing a hat and some water. Overall, it was an informative experience, but a little more time in the shade would have made it more comfortable.

Rebecca was brilliant and sweet. She performed above and beyond. I highly recommend this tourvif you visit Budapest.

Brilliant introductory free walking tour to city.

Patrick_R, May 2025
Sophie was a brilliant guide. Recommend the tour as intro to central Pest. Started at Cathedral and past a number of squares in very interesting anecdotes and history. Well worth catching!

Was not a small walking tour as advertised

Kellie_H, May 2025
Rebecca the guide was brilliant, knowledgeable! She kept apologising (not her fault). I sent What’s App message right on start time from Viator details, as not a soul was waiting at address nominated on the booking. I never heard back from them. However after I panicked and approached a big red bus person selling tickets about 40 m down the road, he directed me; I arrived a few minutes late, after waiting over 5 minutes at meeting point as advertised before start of tour. When I did arrive (after running to catch up the tour) at the first stop (front of St Stephen’s basilica), there were NOT 20 people on the tour (it was advertised as max 20 people on the tour), but at least 40!

Response from Host, May 2025

Thank you for your feedback and for sharing your experience. We're glad to hear that you found Rebecca to be a brilliant and knowledgeable guide, and we sincerely apologize for the confusion at the meeting point. It’s unfortunate that there was a delay in communication, and we understand how frustrating that must have been. Regarding the group size, we want to clarify that there were two tour leaders guiding the tour that day, which is why the group was larger than expected. We strive to provide an excellent experience for all our guests, and we appreciate your understanding. Your feedback is invaluable to help us improve for future tours. Thank you again for your review!

Akta_P, Oct 2024
Our guide Sofi was very informative and interesting. It would be helpful if the tour was renamed to specify that it was a walking tour of the Pest side of the city only.

Erika_O, Sep 2024
Claudia provided a great tour experience. Our group was HUGE so I was quite concerned that the tour would be disappointing but Claudia did a great job of keeping the group together and on track. She ensured her voice was loud enough for everyone to hear and provided the right amount of information at each stop. Definitely recommend!

Disappointed About Presentation of the Shoes.

Sara_D, Aug 2024
Claudia was energetic and tried to make the tour interactive and fun. I was enjoying the tour until we got to the memorial of the shoes. I have traveled to many different countries and attended many Jewish memorials, and this is the first tour guide who presented the history with a lot of sympathy for the people who killed thousands of Jews. She also did not know the most updated information about the Hungarian Jewish experience during world war 2. When showing her updated information about the 1941 deportations from Yad Vashem she told me it’s absolutely not true without any explanation. This echoes holocaust denialism, especially with the extreme sympathy for the Hungarians for not only cooperating with the Nazis, but aligning with the Nazis. Very not impressed.

Response from Host, Aug 2024

Thank you for sharing your feedback and for acknowledging Claudia's energy and efforts to make the tour interactive. I'd like to address some of your concerns to provide a fuller picture. First, it's important to recognize that this walking tour is focused on Budapest's main highlights, with a brief mention of the Shoes on the Danube memorial. This tour is not specifically a Jewish-themed tour, which might have influenced how the information was presented. Evaluating the entire tour based on one aspect may not fully capture the overall experience. Regarding Claudia's presentation at the memorial, I'd like to emphasize that she is a highly experienced local guide with over 8 years of experience. She has led many Jewish groups to the Shoes on the Danube memorial, and in all that time, her expressions and style have not raised concerns among participants. While differing perspectives on historical events can occur, Claudia’s intent was certainly not to diminish the gravity of the Holocaust or align with Holocaust denialism. I hope this provides some additional context to your experience, and I appreciate your understanding.
