Highlight of Greece

Karen_B, Nov 2025
This was the highlight of our trip to Greece. I found the communication to be excellent with a detailed itinerary sent a couple of weeks from the tour, along with some optional activity ideas. The one point I'd make is the tour bus in Athens departed across the road from the area indicated in the instructions. I'm not sure if this is usual but other bus drivers were directing people across the road and the bus was obviously for our company so it wasn't too hard to find. The accommodation that they arranged for us was absolutely beautiful, with stunning views of the monoliths, a comfortable bed and close to both the town and a walking trail. We did the sunset tour on the first afternoon and the hiking tour the next morning, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The hiking tour was not overly difficult. In the afternoon we booked the sunset hermit caves hiking tour which was a bit more physical but a real highlight for us. On the third morning we hiked to Holy Trinity Monastery from the path near our accommodation and then went to the Natural History Museum with its interesting mushroom display. I could have easily done an extra day for via ferrata and/or mountain biking. All in all, it was well worth the visit.

We’re thrilled to hear that Meteora was the highlight of your trip to Greece and that the communication, accommodation, and overall itinerary met your expectations. We appreciate your note about the Athens departure point and will continue to clarify this for future guests. It’s wonderful to know you enjoyed the sunset tour, hiking experiences, and exploring Meteora at your own pace—even adding extra activities. We’re delighted it was well worth the visit and hope to welcome you back for more adventures!

A fabulous 1 1/2 day tour that was stretched into 3 days

Carol_B, Sep 2025
After the first day and a half, the last day and a half was all unexpectedly free time. The bus to and from Meteora was a half day each way. There was a sunset tour on day 1. We chose the morning hike on day 2. Then there was nothing till we were picked up at 5 pm on day 3, to return to Athens. The tours were outstanding. The hotel was lovely, and welcoming. But we felt that paying for the second hotel night and having nothing to do, was a waste of money. To be fair, after we enquired twice about the (lack of) activities on day 3, they did offer us a morning bus tour. See below for the specifics of this tour. Day 1 No Wifi on the bus. Apparently the guy forgot the device, in Athens. Bus seats had handles on the back and reclined so far that it was difficult to read my phone. A book, which is larger, or my e-reader, would be even worse. The driver didn't speak much English, so there was no travel info/stories as we travelled. But he did make a few comments as we travelled - ex Lamia City is the centre of Greece. We were dropped at our hotel around 1 pm. Checked in by 1:30. Room wasn't ready till 2:30. We were picked up at 3 pm for the sunset tour. No lunch stop. But there was a bathroom stop at about 10:30 am. Miguelas did our tour guiding for the sunset hike. Very knowledgeable and approachable. Bottle of water provided. Day 2 - hike in the morning. Chris was our guide and he was excellent. He set a good pace, with lots of stops and explanations. 8:30-12:30 Bottle of water provided. - free afternoon Day 3: Hotel pickup at 5 pm. We were picked up with about 8 other people in a minibus and taken to a truck stop to wait for the 2 big busses, to go to Athens. No wifi on bus on the way home at first. It said I was connected, but then wouldn't connect. It sporadically connected. Late re on the trip. Poor communication. People on the bus seemed to have been together because the guy reminded them they could pre-order dinner at our 45 minute stop. But we hadn’t been told that, and he didn't explain anything more to us new people. He didn't mention about wifi but there was an info sheet in the bus seat. He was nice when we got back to Athens, and turned the wifi back on after the bus stopped, so I could finish requesting an Uber. The tour operator got back to us promptly except when I asked pointed questions about the itinerary. (Two different times.)

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Dear Carol, Thank you very much for your detailed feedback and for sharing your experience with us. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed our guided tours and that you found both Miguelas and Chris to be excellent guides. Regarding your comment about the third day: the last day of the program is intentionally left free, so guests can decide whether they prefer to take part in additional local activities — such as horseback riding, e-biking, hiking, rock climbing, private food & wine tours, or even truffle hunting — or simply enjoy a more relaxed day of self-guided walks and sightseeing at their own pace. Many travelers appreciate this flexibility after two active days. The itinerary, including the free day, is always available in the tour description on the platform where you booked, as well as on other partner platforms. In addition, we send the program via email before the trip, and you can also find a printed version with useful information in the seat pocket of the coach. We are grateful that you shared your impressions, as it allows us to continue improving our services. We hope we’ll have the chance to welcome you again in Meteora for another memorable experience. Warm regards, George

Sunset tour and half day tour were in a different perspective and view of the landscape. Crudos to our tour guide Jim, very knowledgeable, excellent service and funny, never boring. A very memorable experience, the best tour. Definitely will visit Meteora tour again , in different seasons. Highly recommended. Would prefer to staying longer to enjoy the entire area. Meteora 3 day

Noreen_N, Apr 2025
2 day is lots. 3 rd day was free time which we could have had in Athens. Said they sent a schedule in March which I couldn’t find. Asked for one again and it was not sent to me. Disappointing.

Response from Host, May 2025

Hi Noreen, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the third day didn’t meet your expectations and that there was confusion regarding the itinerary. Our intention with the free time is to allow guests to relax or explore Meteora at their own pace, but we understand how it might have felt more useful in Athens for some travelers. We also sincerely apologize if you didn’t receive the updated schedule—we’ll be reviewing our communication process to ensure this doesn’t happen again. Your comments help us improve, and we truly appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We hope the rest of your experience in Meteora was memorable despite this hiccup.

Wonderful adventure

A giant sculpture garden

Evelyn_C, Jul 2024
We spent Tree days are two nights there. Not enough!! It was HOT. Wish the weather was cooler so we could do more.

Response from Host, Jul 2024

Thank you for your review! We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your 3 days and 2 nights tour of Meteora, though we understand that the hot weather made it challenging to do as much as you wanted. We appreciate your feedback and recommend visiting again during the cooler months to fully explore and enjoy the area. Thank you for choosing our tour, and we hope to welcome you back soon!

Sunset and hiking.

threesmartgirls, Sep 2023
2 night Meteora trip with sunset tour and half day monastry tour. This was a highlight of our trip. Don’t try to do it in one day - you will miss so much. The sunset tour guide was very knowledgeable, he gave a wonderful set of stories to bring each place alive. The half day Monastry tour, we selected the hiking option. We saw so much more on foot. The views were spectacular and the guide - Evan-was excellent.

Above expectations!

Evi_H, Aug 2022
Excellent from start to finish! Well organized, tour guides Katerina, Jimmy and our driver George were a pleasure and a well of information. Recommend Hotel Meteora for its stunning views and great service. Train ride was comfortable and clean. Highly recommend!

A worthwhile journey: nature, organization and learning

MariadelMar_H, Jun 2025
1- Organization buses: All perfect. 2- Hotel establishment: If you like hiking and researching on your own , I recommend that the accommodation is by the kastraki area (I was in that area and I thought it was perfect). 3- Excursions: I personally was the most satisfied excursion with was the trekking trip, because apart from explanations both cultural, historical, flora, fauna... , the guide knew how to enliven the trip.
