Great Meteora trip!

James_C, Apr 2026
Very well organized, Nice comfortable hotel, efficient transfers and beautiful scenery. What more con you get for the price?

Carmel_S, Apr 2026
It’s a wonderful place to visit. And especially if you take the 2 days trip. You will get to see the beautiful sunset and get the feel of the town and you get to visit the monasteries the second day. Both our tour guides were wonderful Vasssilis and Yiannis were courteous they gave us lots of information and they were superb.

The arrangement of the 2...

Rosalia_C, Feb 2026
The arrangement of the 2 days was very confusing. The returning ride was badly organized. We were lucky that my husband and I could sit together. The sunset tour was only average but the sunset view was amazing. The PANORAMIC morning tour was great. Clement was our tour guide and Vasilis was our driver for the morning tour Both of them were great. I have learnt a great deal of the monasteries history from our tour guide. We have opted for the 3*hotel. Although the hotel was only 8 -10 minutes walk from city center, it feels like it was in the middle of nowhere. The area was quiet and quite dark. Hotel claims it is a 4 stars and quite new. We were totally disappointed with the room. It is just like a 1-2 stars motel room in N. America. However, the breakfast is like a true 4 star hotel. We enjoyed the breakfast very much. We visited 3 monasteries in the morning tour. Each was about 1 hr. Because we need to climb 300+ steps for one of the monasteries, we didn't have enough time to see it. However, the whole experience of this tour is still super!

Aphrodite and Kostas are Amazing

Michelle_D, Oct 2025
Sites were heavenly and hotel accommodations were adequate. Aphrodite and Kostas were so kind, patient and knowledgeable. It was clear they had developed a synergy that allowed us to feel comfortable. On the other hand, the instructor for the sunset tour was not as patient, but comparatively informative.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Thank you for sharing your feedback! We’re so glad you enjoyed the stunning sites and felt comfortable with Aphrodite and Kostas , they truly make a great team and take pride in offering a warm and knowledgeable experience. We also appreciate your note about the sunset tour; we’ll make sure to share your comments with our team to keep improving. We hope to welcome you again for another memorable visit to Meteora

Meteora is a special place

Kris_P, Sep 2025
The whole tour was well organised with good communication on accommodation, pick up times etc. The only issue was the amount of free time on the second day but you could fill in that time easily if you were adventurous.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you so much for your review !

Meteora beautiful! Tour .. beyond disorganized

Maria_B, Sep 2025
Meteora as a location, is spectacular. A must! Just jaw dropping and beautiful. But organized tour was rough! The 2 day trip.-A Big waste of time. You drive 4 hrs up 1st day. To then sit in your hotel for 3 hrs and wait for the next bus to arrive for the sunset tour which is 2 hrs long. Beautiful views. The next day you see the same Monasteries but can go inside which was nice. This was over at 1pm. We then had to wait at our hotel or walk the very, very, small town till 6pm for the bus to pick us up and head back to Athens!!! . Therefore, 5 hours of nothing! You can eat and see the whole town in 2 hours max. You board your bus at 6pm for another 4 1/2 hour drive and arrive at Athens around 11pm. So unnecessary. Why so much down time was beyond us and not needed. Made it for a very long two days. Also, bus situation…. A disorganized mess!! Do a private tour!!

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you for sharing such a detailed and honest review. It’s clear you were blown away by the beauty of Meteora itself. Please have in mind that the itinerary is carefully designed to have the best experience and is well noted in the description of the tour. Thank you

Scam experience

Ana_V, Jun 2025
The second day was basically a repeat of the information we got on the first day since they put us together with the 1 day tour. And after we get dropped off around lunch we're left for over 4 hours with nothing to do until our return bus. There were 2 stops in what were obviously partner shops to get us to spend money there, which is really disrespectful since we spent all that money to see Meteora. And not only do we get a subpar tour, we're pushed into money grabbing schemes. The bus ride home was awful! It was really hot and the driver didn't turn the AC on. People were using what they could as fans. Save yourself some money and go to Meteora by train and get a taxi to take you to the monasteries. I sure wish I did.

Response from Host, Jun 2025

Thank you for your feedback, though we must respectfully clarify a few points: First and foremost, Meteora Thrones is a fully licensed, highly reputable travel agency, with thousands of satisfied guests each year. We take great pride in providing authentic, respectful, and professionally guided tours of this UNESCO World Heritage site. Regarding your comments: The second day of the two-day tour is intentionally designed to align with the one-day visitors during the guided portion to ensure that all guests benefit from the most comprehensive historical and cultural insights. However, guests on the two-day tour also enjoy additional exclusive experiences, such as the renowned Sunset Tour, a night in a local hotel, and the chance to explore the area at a more relaxed pace. The midday free time is clearly stated in the tour itinerary and is intended to allow guests to relax, have lunch, visit the town, or even return to a spot of interest. Kalabaka and Kastraki offer charming cafes, viewpoints, and walking routes during this break. Lastly, we can confirm that our buses are modern and equipped with air conditioning, which is in regular use, especially during the warmer months. If any guest feels uncomfortable during the ride, our team is always open to feedback and ready to respond. We always encourage our guests to communicate directly with our guides or office during the tour if there are any concerns — we are here to ensure a positive and memorable experience in one of Greece’s most magical locations. We wish you well in your future travels.

The start of the tour...

Teresa_L, May 2025
The start of the tour didn't go well. We (a huge number of people) all arrived at the location as directed. The bus driver wasn't helpful and didn't provide any info. Later two more buses showed up across the very busy road and every one is rushing to get to them. The drivers showed us our names on a very small piece of paper and every one is searching their names at the same time. It was very disorganized. It got better when we get there. The tour I signed up for has 7 people, much more manageable. The tour ended at 1:00 pm the next day, but we had to wait until 6:00 pm to accommodate the one-day tourists. Nothing to complain about, it's not a private tour after all.

Meteora is a must see! Meteora Thrones were amazing!

Popi_C, May 2025
We did the 2 day tour from Athens by bus. Great communication and easy to find meeting point. We had Christo as our driver and Nikolas as our tour guide for day one tour which was the sunset tour! No words can describe what we saw and what we felt! Day 2 tour with our driver Kosta and our guide Nancy was also exceptional. Nancy was so knowledgeable and had little surprises for us along the way. She warned us of the many steps but also took us “hiking” though nature before our last visit to Agia Barbara. Special points go to Kosta for his photographic skills 😉 We 100% recommend the 2 day tour … it’s an item ticked off our bucket list and something we will never forget 🙏

First Meteora Visit

Adinarayana_K, Feb 2025
I had Awesome Meteora visit experience. Kudos to the Team, There was no Hiccups at all. Like to visit with Family.

must do!

Olga_V, Feb 2025
Outstanding .Even it was a small group , Yanny and Cristos(driver) spend with us a lot of time and we got excellent information . On our second day Yanny gave us a great idea: we didnt go back to town and were dropped off near monastery which was not included . We climbed up and down ourselves based on their recommendation , instead of spending time in town. We saw all monasteries , instead of one that happened to be closed for maintenance.

The monasteries are...

Danielle_V, Jan 2025
The monasteries are completely breathtaking, The whole tour was wonderful. Clement was such an excellent guide. He explained the history of the area to us. It was foggy because it was winter so he went out of his way to show us extra things to make up for being unable to see some of the monasteries. We went inside 4 monasteries in total. Each one had it's own charm. Would highly recommend the 2 day trip,

Great experience at Meteora!

Anastasios_G, Jan 2025
✨ Just returned from an unforgettable trip, and I'm still on cloud nine! From the smooth ride from Athens to Kalabaka, where everything was seamlessly organized, to the warm welcome from our driver Konstadino and our enthusiastic guide Maria, every moment was a joy. Maria's passion brought the history of the monasteries to life, while Konstadino captured the magic with breathtaking photos. The morning tour with Klemente and Giannis was both fun and informative, leading us on an invigorating hike down from the stunning monasteries. I highly recommend this experience for anyone seeking adventure and inspiration!

Meteora

John_B, Nov 2024
Transport to and from Athens and in Meteora were smooth. Guide Clement was very knowledgeable. Hotel was good.

A place to see, but 4-star not worth it

Andrew_T, Sep 2024
You absolutely have to visit Meteora on your visit to Greece. One of the most fantastic places on earth. But be advised, there are a LOT of stairs to climb. However, we were disappointed with the ‘4-star’ hotel this tour offered. At best, the hotel is a 2 star based on American standards, and that is being generous. The garish lobby is a step up from just a hotel desk, but beyond that pretty disappointing. The beds in our room were smaller than an American twin size and were concave in the middle. The breakfast that was included did not even come up to a Hampton Inn, or Fairfield breakfast. Seems there are many other nicer options in the area. My suggestion would be to make your own travel plans, you can sign up for the Monastery tours directly with Metora Thrones, for around $30. Also, I wish the tour itself and bus drivers gave some initial information about schedule and expectations.. we felt we were just getting on a bus and not knowing what was to be expected, rest stops, food options, schedule, etc..

great tour

Jad_S, Aug 2024
both Guides Yannis and Stephanie (i think) were great guides they have a lot of knowledge and are very friendly, the tour takes you to the main monasteries of Meteora

Amazing tour of Meteora

Elena_S, Jun 2024
Excellent tour with Meteora thrones. Very organised. Sunset tour with guide Anastasia was outstanding! She was brilliant and very knowledgeable about all aspects of Meteora! She was amazing! Very good hotel in Kalambaka with helpful staff. Overall, a fabulous tour, visiting 4 monasteries and other areas of interest at Meteora. Panoramic tour also very good. Highly recommend this tour with Meteora thrones. Very professional, friendly and organised. A must see!!! Absolutely beautiful! Thank you Meteora thrones!

Great cultural tour

Dwight_M, Jun 2024
Great tour must do when you visit Greece. Absolutely amazing. And the guides were great. However, you need to make sure you know when they’re picking you up and dropping you off. On the second day we got dropped off at 1 PM as the tour was over and Bus back to Athens was at 5:30 PM. So make your plans accordingly, but it’s a must do.

Stunning sights, beautiful experience

Mirjam_H, Jun 2024
The sunset tour was beautiful, but the walking with Christos was the best part. Everything was well organized and everybody was really friendly and helpful.

2 days itinerary is well planned. The only downside is we did not get a tour guide with passion and knowledge to share w

MICHELLE_L, Jun 2024
The trip itinerary is very good with the first day doing sunset tours and the 2nd day doing monasteries visits. Drivers on both days are very polite and friendly. However I am very disappointed with the first day sunset tour guide (Nicholas?). He has very limited information about the history, background etc of Mateora and the monasteries to share with us. Some of us had to eavesdrop the next team guide’s explanation.

Well worth the time.

Dylan_F, Jun 2024
Really enjoyed the trip. Our guide, Stacey, on the first day was really fun and engaging. All the guides had great English, and knew tons about the area. The monasteries are very pretty and the sceneries are truly breathtaking. We showed up during a heat wave so it was very hot but the bus had good AC and only a few monasteries included a lot of walking.

Visit Meteora but not this tour

Alice_C, Jun 2024
Meteora is a gorgeous place and definitely worth visiting. However I don't recommend this tour. The tour was poorly organized. We were asked to pick one of two options and given little information for us to make the choice and decision had to be made on the spot. Also the second day the tour ended at 2pm and guests were left "stranded" in town for 4 hrs with no where to go before the bus picked us up at 6 for return to Athens. We arrived in Athens at 11 pm but the trip didn't have to be that long. Also one of the tour guides was outright rude. The first day we were dropped in front of the hotel with no orientation about the town. I asked the guide where we could get lunch. He answered in a loud and gruff voice "I don't know. Go look yourself." That didn't sound like a welcoming attitude to tourists.

Good tour.

John_N, Jun 2024
The trip would have been fantastic if not for raining and fogging both days. Some tour guides are good and some do almost nothing.

2 days Meteora from Athens

Dan_L, May 2024
We’re a group of 6 attending 2 days Meteora tour. It’s beautiful stunning places to see and the tour organizer is almost perfect if if the tour return time to Athens is doing earlier say around 3 ~ 4pm. The tour ended at 1pm but we have to wait until 6:30pm to go back is wait too long! We getting bore too spend to too much time in the smal town Kalampaka. The 4 stars hotel is also not what it should be. The tour should also provide rest room break during the tour as it’s pretty long hours

Amazing and Gorgeous Meteora

Rhonda_R, May 2024
The monasteries of Meteora are gorgeous witnesses to the ingenuity and faith of the monks and nuns who settled there. The rock formations are majestic and awe inspiring. The frescoes of the biblical stories, the history of Christianity, and Greek Orthodox traditions are stunning. We visited 4 of the six remaining monasteries and walked to to the caves where the monks lived before the monasteries were built. Chris and Nikolas were knowledgeable and engaging. It would have been helpful to have the entire travel details including the return time to Athens. It was a surprise to learn that although the second tour ended at 1:30 pm our departure wasn't until 6:00 pm. We arrived in Athens at 10:30 pm when we expected to get back around 6:00.

Bad organization.

Mirdza_L, May 2024
Meteora was beautiful, but the beginning of my trip was terrible. There were problems finding my name in the lists. At least it was done. When we arrived in Meteora there was no local guide for persons who have a two-day trip. When a bus and the guide arrived we were taken to the hotel. I was directed to a hotel, but my name was not on the list. The administrator was sent to another hotel on the opposite side of the street. I was not registered there either. It was raining and I could stay on the street between two hotels. In the end, I asked to call the organizers and clarify something. It turned out that I must be in the first hotel where I was not announced. After about an hour, someone called me and asked if I had registered at the hotel.

Response from Host, May 2024

You sound like my competitor! Thank you for your advise to a 5* company.

2 days was enough time

Shirley_H, May 2024
Easy return Coach ride. Our Hotel Axious was in great position, close for walking town n find restaurants. Monasteries Sunset and Morning tours very good. Only negative we felt was the time on 2nd day waiting around after tour until 5.30pm pickup. Too lo g.

Great scenic tour but poor logistics.

James_C, May 2024
Seeing the Meteora area rock formations and monasteries was fantastic. Amazing views and history. However, the logistics of the trip were awful. This was sold and is still advertised as a train trip. The train tracks were destroyed six months ago by flooding. This is now a 5 hour bus trip instead of a 4 hour train trip. This was known six months ago; we were sent an email two days before the trip to inform about the change. False advertising since it is still sold as a train trip. Our hotel Famissi Eden was on the outskirts of town. Claims to be 4*, 2* at best. Worn furnishings in the lobby, hard beds. We returned from tour at 8:30pm, buffet was finished, very little food left, they refused to fix individual meals. The bus logistics were bad, changing from coach to small buses on edge of town, no room for luggage in small bus. Guides did poor job of information on daily logistics, you had to ask them to get information. Viator getting bad name using the Meteora Thrones company. Quit using them unless they greatly improve the service.

A place like no other

Joyce_F, May 2024
Spectacular to see and worth the loooong bus rides but tiring. Trains were out so groups were combined on the bus rides and returned late. We needed more information in advance . Our first day guide hand good diction and overcame the small bus’s poor amp system Still, we would choose it again if this were the only way.

Wonderful tour experience

Jessie_N, Apr 2024
Our guides for the first day and on 2nd day (for the hike) are both good. It was a wonderful tour with lots of magnificent views. The hike on 2nd day was really good to see the monasteries from different angles. Our room was good as we were given one that faces the Meteora. Definitely making the long journey (5 hrs to and 5 hrs back) worth it
