Itinerary

Meet your guide in central Athens to begin your tour. Stroll through the streets, making stops at local bakeries, spice merchants, restaurants, dairies, delicatessens and pie shops. Get a true taste of Greek culinary culture, sampling all sorts of specialty snacks and dishes as you go, including the beloved *koulouri*, a tasty bread with sesame seeds.

Learn about Greece's unique culinary heritage while you explore, and hear why the Mediterranean diet has become today's model of healthy living. Follow your guide inside small, hidden specialty shops and meet the locals behind them.

Afterward, make a stop at the bustling Varvakeios food market. Browse the colorful stalls filled with fruit, seafood, meat and local spices.

Delicious, Insightful & Authentic Athens Experience

I had such a wonderful experience on the food and market tour in Athens. It was both fascinating and delicious. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, not only about food but also about the city’s history and culture, which made everything even more engaging. The tour felt intimate and personal, giving us the chance to ask questions and really connect. The highlights for me were definitely the spanakopita and boureka – absolutely amazing – and the gyro we had at the end was excellent as well. The atmosphere was fun and relaxed, with a lovely group of people and pleasant walks between the stops. I’d recommend this tour to anyone who loves food and wants to discover the city through the eyes of a true local.

Exceeded my expectations

I ate breakfast before the 9:30 tour- big mistake!! I couldn’t enjoy all the food they gave us, which included large sesame pretzel type thing, charcuterie with three kinds of homemade sliced meat, feta cheese and a delicious cheddar type cheese, wine and raki, fresh grapes (the best ever- so sweet and fresh they popped when you bit them, a beef sandwich called a slovakia or something like that, and lastly a fried dough covered with honey and cinnamon. We had to walk to each place, so went through many different neighborhoods. Besides these two places, we went to a honey and olive oil tasting and a tasting for Greek liqueurs. In the honey and olive oil place, I bought some honey/based creams. Our guide Micki (Nicki?) spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable and nice. Our group of 8 got along very well. Lots of exercise and good food! It exceeded my expectations

Loved this tour but recommend changing so groups don't have shared food

We loved this tour - Stella was absolutely fantastic. She was friendly and helpful and shared great information. The food selections were great, too. The only thing we would change/did not love was that some food items were shared - people using hands or utensils in the same container. We would have preferred food to be separated at least by couple, especially in this semi post-Covid era. The shared food freaked us out a bit.

My 2 teenagers and I loved this tour! Eva/Ava was the best tour guide we had in our 15 days in all of Greece. She was so friendly and informative, she was attentive to our needs, made sure we were all together and taken care of. Definitely recommend this tour!

We had a lovely time on our small group Athens food tour. We had 6 guests plus the tour guide so it was nice and small. We stopped at a number of stops and had a great experience in every location. Great serving sizes of everything and great personalised service. Our guide asked us if we wanted coffee and took individual orders as well as bought us fruit at the fruit market that the group wanted. FYI - you will see dead animals at the meat market.

My wife and I, and our 10-year old granddaughter, greatly enjoyed this tour. Our companions were congenial and our tour guides -- Stella and Lucy -- were friendly and knowledgeable, and patiently answered our numerous questions. It turned out that we had two guides because, unbeknownst to us, ours was Stella's first tour, so Lucy came along to provide support, which really wasn't needed but which added to our experience. An unexpected bonus was that the tour takes you to a variety of interesting locations and neighborhoods, many of which are off the beaten tourist track. Highly recommended.

Our guide, Christi, did a great job! The food choices were all excellent and some were Greek foods I had never hear of or eaten. The walking pace was just right. Make you are plenty hungry if you take this tour because there is a lot to eat. The tour also includes walking through meat, seafood and produce markets.

Incredible way to taste your way through Athens! Our guide Evelina was so fun and nice! She made the tour 100% worth it. I can’t even guess as to how many different food items we got to try… maybe 15 or 20? And the walking tour was a perfect way to burn off some calories and see some Athens neighborhoods at the same time. I’d recommend to anyone who likes food and culture!

Loukia was a wonderful tour guide. She took us to so many places that we never would have found on our own. It was fun to meet the shop owners and have them tell us their stories. I would definitely recommend this tour at the beginning of your visit to Athens so you become familiar with the food scene.

Nothing to LIKE because your BIG ORANGE UMBRELLA WAS NOT VISIBLE IN FRONT OF STARBUCKS, NEAR THE METRO STATION stairs. I sent a msg to tour operator asking where are you? Where can i find you to meet? "Silence" on that morning, day of tour silence, and now yiu want a review? I want a full refund and explaination. No groups around following any umbrella or guides and I went into every corridor, market stall, coffee shop, local Taveras and grocery store in the Acropolis neighborhood looking for this group; asking if they had beeb through the markets. Never again will I use you to book in advance. This was during Coffee Exhibition: 3 days in the area with masses of tourists, travelers and overcrowding in the area under these popular ancient sites. No small wonder!

Eveline was such an awesome tour guide! We ended up having a private tour with her and for my first Food tour it was amazing. She was very knowledgeable and engaging. She was super friendly and we tried so many good foods that we never tasted before. The portions are good size so definitely come hungry.

We had a great time on this tour (6 of us). The food is fantastic, and diverse, and you get a nice walking tour of the area. Our guide was very engaging and kept a good pace so that even the younger ones in our group (who usually prefer to explore on their own) had a great time. I might have liked a little deeper explanation about the history of specific snacks or their relevance to daily life, but no one else in my group would have liked that so I'm 5-starring this one.
