Niya was very knowledgeable, had great energy, and organized the group very well. She answered questions readily and interspersed her knowledge of history and architecture with insights into the Athens food scene. Food and beverage choices were very good.

Great experience. Our guide had lots of cultural and historical information to share. Disappointed we missed the market but it was Sunday so I thought that might be the case. Our guide did suggest we go back the next day and told us how to get there.

Poorly organized. Not enough information. Shops not expecting 12 people showing up. Skimpy food portions. Did I mention poor planning? Markets not open. Sorry, Gina. Not a good tour.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the tour did not meet your expectations and, in particular, that you decided to leave after the first few stops and therefore did not experience the full tour.
We would like to clarify a few points. The market is not open on Sundays, and we will make sure this is stated more clearly in our tour description so that guests know what to expect.
The shops we visit are small, family-owned businesses that are frequented by Athenians for their everyday shopping. They are authentic local establishments rather than businesses designed for tourists. As a result, service can sometimes be a little slower, especially when we arrive with a group, but this is also part of the authentic experience we aim to offer.
Throughout the full tour, guests get to try up to 12 different Greek foods, with the tour ending with souvlaki, which can easily be a full meal in itself. The portions at each stop are not intended to be individual full meals, as the experience is designed around tasting a variety of foods at multiple locations. We therefore carefully balance the portions so that guests can continue enjoying the tour without being completely full after the first few stops.
We are genuinely sorry that you felt the need to leave early, as you unfortunately missed much of the food and experience included in the tour. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to make the information provided to our guests even clearer.
Visolos was great. He was extremely engaging and made the tour fun for myself, wife, and kids. Food was tasty and he gave a lot of fantastic insight of the food, people, and culture all throughout. Highly recommend!!!

Naya was a great host from Athens Walking Tours. This was 3 hours of so much food, stories and a peek into the local Athenian life.
This was a great intro to Athens, as our guide touched on some of the neighborhoods and what makes them unique, stories that combined well known Greek History with that of her own parents and grandparents. There was a ton of food- I went in hungry, per suggestions of other reviewers and left so so full. All around great way to get more of a local experience than if you were to walk around solo. Loved it!

Wonderful start to the day with many great treats on our walk through the 3 different neighborhoods. Our guide brought a delicious traditional circular bread for us to try. We also had lovely pies, honey products, gyros, donuts, all while getting to know the area and history of the boroughs. Loved Monastiraki and the flea markets and fun vibes! Ask for Orestes (? I think?), and you’ll be sure to have a great, personalized experience!

I had such a wonderful experience on the food and market tour in Athens. It was both fascinating and delicious. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, not only about food but also about the city’s history and culture, which made everything even more engaging. The tour felt intimate and personal, giving us the chance to ask questions and really connect.
The highlights for me were definitely the spanakopita and boureka – absolutely amazing – and the gyro we had at the end was excellent as well. The atmosphere was fun and relaxed, with a lovely group of people and pleasant walks between the stops.
I’d recommend this tour to anyone who loves food and wants to discover the city through the eyes of a true local.

Spanakopita, boureka, and a proper gyro are indeed highlights we love sharing. It’s wonderful that the relaxed atmosphere and small group setting made the experience feel personal and engaging.
I ate breakfast before the 9:30 tour- big mistake!! I couldn’t enjoy all the food they gave us, which included large sesame pretzel type thing, charcuterie with three kinds of homemade sliced meat, feta cheese and a delicious cheddar type cheese, wine and raki, fresh grapes (the best ever- so sweet and fresh they popped when you bit them, a beef sandwich called a slovakia or something like that, and lastly a fried dough covered with honey and cinnamon. We had to walk to each place, so went through many different neighborhoods. Besides these two places, we went to a honey and olive oil tasting and a tasting for Greek liqueurs. In the honey and olive oil place, I bought some honey/based creams. Our guide Micki (Nicki?) spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable and nice. Our group of 8 got along very well. Lots of exercise and good food! It exceeded my expectations

We loved this tour - Stella was absolutely fantastic. She was friendly and helpful and shared great information. The food selections were great, too. The only thing we would change/did not love was that some food items were shared - people using hands or utensils in the same container. We would have preferred food to be separated at least by couple, especially in this semi post-Covid era. The shared food freaked us out a bit.
My 2 teenagers and I loved this tour! Eva/Ava was the best tour guide we had in our 15 days in all of Greece. She was so friendly and informative, she was attentive to our needs, made sure we were all together and taken care of. Definitely recommend this tour!
Having a good guide makes a good tour and Marina was a great guide. Not only did we eat authentic and delicious food, we saw local Athens neighborhoods and learned some of the background of the food and culture of Athens. It was a great tour!
