Excellent food tour

Dimitris took me off the beaten trail to try local food. Did not go to all places in description of experience since he tailored it to what I was interested in trying. It was a very good experience with plenty of food to try. Dimitris is very knowledgeable, easy to talk to about anything and caring. Would highly recommend for a privately food tour.

Dimitris was kind and patient with our tardiness as the ride from the airport was longer than anticipated. Unfortunately it was a rainy day that we were not prepared for so perhaps an umbrella would have been nice. We tried many delicious things but servings were large rather than actual samples so we filled up quickly and passed on the last couple of stops. We did go to local places rather than tourist areas which is what we were looking for!

Fun stopping at old town Athens area away from all the busy areas. Demetris was very knowledgeable of Greece. Visit bakery and local restaurant and bar for the real authentic Greek cuisine!!

Dimitrius is a true professional!! I appreciated his calm deliberate approach to the day. We Truly had the best time. We were cruise ship guests so a bit of a hiccup getting to the tour as I didn’t realize the port was 20/30 minutes away- but Dimitrius was so helpful with suggestions and his wisdom. We had a wonderful time eating things we would not known to order. Conversation never lagged. A true delight to hang out with a local - like having a cousin abroad who shows you the town ;). Highly recommend

Disappointing

We did not receive most of the foods shown in the pictures or described in the listing. Never went to any taverns, had no lunch or salads, small fishes, fried vegetables, etc. We also were not offered any alcoholic beverages. It was overpriced for what we were given.

First and foremost, your note about following a gluten-free diet naturally limited your options. Nevertheless, we offered you 16 different flavors that were suitable for your dietary requirements. Please keep in mind that for your next food tour, the gluten-free choice inevitably restricts the available options, which is important to know beforehand to properly set your expectations. Additionally, I would like to clarify that all elements included in the program were offered during the tour. However, we noticed there wasn't interest in participating in all the suggested stops, which likely affected your overall experience. Regarding alcoholic beverages, we never direct our guests on what to choose. All participants always have the freedom to select between alcoholic and non-alcoholic options according to their personal preferences. As you may recall, we picked you up from your hotel and returned you there at the end, as per the booking terms. Throughout the entire tour, there was no expression of dissatisfaction or any comment from your side that would have allowed us to adjust your experience on the spot. Finally, it's important to remind you that, as we informed you during booking, the tour took place on May 1st, a general strike day in Athens. Despite the objective difficulties that arose, we managed to conduct the tour without significant problems. The increased presence of people in the streets is an integral part of the city's vibrant atmosphere, especially on such a day. We value your feedback and remain available for any further discussion. The tour was excellent. The personal attention and the focus on smaller businesses is what we enjoyed the most. Unfortunately, we had to cut our tour short due to unforeseen circumstances. That said, Dimitris went above and beyond to make sure that we were okay. In fact, Dimitris continued to make recommendations of spots to hit well after the tour. I can’t thank him enough for the warmth and hospitality. Finally, come hungry, you will be eating a lot of great, Greek bites.

We had a fantastic private food tour in Athens with Dimitris. He is extremely personable and knowledgeable, and he adapted the tour to suit our specific interests and needs. One of the best things about the tour is that he focused on taking us to non-touristic locations. We tasted many, many different dishes and places we especially loved our last stop in a little cafe where we enjoyed multiple mezzes (e.g., Greek tapas). We highly recommend Dimitris and this superb tour.

Dimitris and the Off The Beaten Track Walking Food Tour are a must for your stay in Athens!

Dimitris was an amazing guide. I cannot recommend this food tour enough! We started the day with a private Off The Beaten Track Walking Food Tour to mingle with the locals and see where they eat. Over the span of three hours, we covered three miles while eating and drinking (and of course, shopping) our way across the city. He took us to places we would never have found our even thought to look for on our own. The spice markets and central market were a feast for the senses, full of wonderful colors, smells, and tastes. The organic honey and olive tastings were one of those gems that we didn't know we needed until we had them, and we were amazed at the rich flavors. The Souvlaki Spesial was another favorite, with pork, fresh tomatoes, onions, herbs, paprika, and salt; so simple, yet delicious! The final stop at the Polykala Distillery was another highlight. The owner was warm and welcoming and took us through a tasting of a variety of liqueurs. My wife's favorite was the kafé and mine was the lemon, but we also both enjoyed the Mastika. Dimitris provided an overall amazing experience with lots of insight and fun facts about the places and food we were experiencing. 10/10 would do again and definitely recommend to anyone who wants a special experience.

Amazing, meaningful food tour in Athens

Dimitris was an AMAZING guide. Since this is a private tour, he will tailor the experience to your interests. We could have gone to the touristy parts, but what's the fun in that? Dimitris took us to the "non-touristy" sections of Athens and treated us to a day in the life of an Athenian. We went to the souvlaki shop that Athenians go to for a quick snack, and he took us to a place where Greeks go to hang out with friends and enjoy excellent food. We also walked through the markets where Athenians shop - the ones with fresh produce, fish, meats, etc. It was an amazing experience, and I would recommend this tour to anyone.

Just what a food tour should be

Demitris was wonderful and accommodating- due to a missed flight, he moved our tour from the first day of our trip to the last day. He communicated via WhatsApp texts to make sure we knew where we needed to go. He even reordered the stops so that we could finish at a different location to be closer to where we needed to be at the end. The food was delicious, every bit of it. Breakfast foods, olives, baked goods, spirits, and a delicious array of savory food. He stopped two places to try a similar food item so we could compare two common ways of making phyllo. At one stop, I saw several locals with a certain dish and asked if we were going to try it- he went and ordered it so I could try it, even though it wasn’t in his plan! This was a great experience- I would’ve preferred it on the first day of our trip so we could go back to some of the locations! As it is, he helped me pin one of the restaurants on my map app so that if I go to Athens again, I can go there. Highly recommend Demetris and this food tour. More than enough food, and so many flavors to try.

The tour guide never showed. Never answered his phone or attempts to reach him by text. Nor did he respond when we tried to reach him through Viator. A total bust and a scam. We have requested a full refund from Viator.

We had a wonderful tour led by a wonderful guide (Voula... probably misspelled). We ate and ate and ate and still ate more. Everything was delicious except for the authentic coffee..not my favorite. We would recommend.

Dimitris was a fabulous guide. He talked about local food and showed us areas of the city that we probably would not have seen otherwise. The personal nature of the tour gave us a real up close and personal look at the city. He was able to provide interesting small details of the local areas and how locals live. Highly recommend ! It was great to do this food tour on our first day in Athens. We got a great introduction to authentic Greek food. Dimitri was very responsive and helpful to our queries while deciding where to meet; he shared his knowledge of Greek food and culture and took us to nice local spots in Pysri that were off the tourist grid, but served delicious food ! The tour was well planned, we did not have to walk much. He also followed up later with suggestions for good restaurants.

This tour was amazing! Dimitris met us at our hotel and took us to many different places to sample so many different Greek foods. We never would have explored a fraction of the places we visited without Dimitris’s expert guidance. He shared stories along the way and felt like a friend by the end of our time together. We’ve done food tours in many different places, but this by far exceeded all the others. One of our favorite activities from our entire trip. Come hungry, as there is tons of fantastic tastings you won’t want to miss. Cannot recommend this tour enough!!!

It was one of the best tour that we had in Athens. We walked through the markets, meat, fish and fruit, and Dimitris was very well knowledge of the story! We felt the real vibe of this town. Then we tasted nuts and fresh fruits. When we arrived at the Meze Area, Dimitris told us a lot of stories about the philosophy of Meze, and at the same time we tasted all of them. More than 12 plates with delicious Greek food. Our tour finished with Greek yogurt, honey and fruits. To be honest we saw a very different town than the typical touristic Athens.
