Elsie took us on an amazing tour of the open air market. We sampled many Dutch treats including an assortment of cheeses, street food and perhaps the best stroopwafel in the Netherlands. We had plenty of time to enjoy each of the stops and were never rushed. Elsie also took special attention to foods that we did not prefer so the tour was really tailored to our tastebuds!

Our food tour guide Arunabha was amazing! Every food item tasted great (definitely opt for the 10 tastings), the beer choice was some of the best beer I've ever had, and the tidbits of history we got (both food and city related) were intriguing. Arunabha also gave us great restaurant recommendations (ask him for his Indonesian pick), specific directions to activities we were planning to do later in the day, and also made a quick pit spot to help pick up a item someone in our party wanted to get!

Had wonderful time on this tour the guide never made us feel rushed and brought us to a great variety of places. I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves food. It was just my wife and I and it was truly special and more food than we could eat!

I’ll start by saying our tour began late. I received a call 30 min the tour began, asking if we’d like to select a later time. After I explained to Jess we were already at the meeting point, she said she would be there soon. When Jess arrived, she was friendly but looked extremely disheveled. Every time Jess ordered us a new food to try, she personally ate 60-80% of it. I am not use to a tour guide putting their hands in food I’m sharing with my partner. We already paid for the tour, why are you eating the food and going back for seconds & thirds? This is the 4th food tour I’ve been on. The bar was set high with the other three. Ultimately I wasn’t happy with this tour or the guide at all.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of Amsterdam and the role food plays in that history. We were introduced to a great variety of foods from local market vendors to restaurants. Our guide was able to accommodate our children's likes and dislikes.

We enjoyed a 3 hour market area tour with Krista. Knowing that some vendors would not be present on the day of our tour, she offered to take us to another area of the city, but we’re glad we stayed at the market. We moved at a relaxed pace and enjoyed learning more about the local food & life in Amsterdam. We were given flexibility in how to spend the portion of the tour fee allocated for food costs, but we primarily followed the guide’s recommendations. We also received many tips on hidden-gems of Amsterdam…I suggest you take this tour early in your trip so you have adequate time to check out some of the recommendations.

Our guide, Martin, was very knowledgeable with the local foods. Martin was very interesting to talk to about the history and political scene of Amsterdam. We could have spent hours eating with him and talking to him. Local foods were very good.

So this was not something we would do again. We could have 100 percent walked the outdoor market and done this on our own. We only did 1 hour and 50 min it says 3 hours and we definitely needed drinks with the tour. So bring a water. We had too many sweet items as well but we could have just done on our own.

The tasting tour was a lot of fun and something out of the ordinary. We went in the afternoon after a museum visit and it was a great change of pace Arun was a great guide and we had a leisurely stroll down the Albert Cuyp market with several stops focused on Dutch food (including one Suriname focused stop). It’s a lot of food so make sure you go hungry. Our tastings included cheese, herring and battered fried cod (Kibbeling), Dutch stroopwafels (thin waffles with layer of caramel), bitteballen (any visit to amsterdam will involve these round croquettes at some point) a couple of Suriname dishes (chicken kabobs. A curry and some fried plantain) and finished off with Dutch apple pie ( and a cold local beer) you will not leave hungry!

Arun gave us a nice overview of various aspects of Dutch cuisine. Bitterballs, herring, apple pie and delicious Suriname food, everything we ate was very tasty. It was great to watch Arun interact with the different people on the tour. These were his friends and it was a pleasure to meet them. Arun is widely read. At the end of our tour he took us to the American Book Store where he introduced us to a number of significant Dutch writers, whose works are available in English. Without reservation, I would recommend this tour to anyone. No one wants to be a tourist and in a city full of them like Amsterdam, Arun made us feel very welcome. Thank you.

I always love tasting foods from different countries. This was no different.
However, I do feel this tour was a bit pricey for the amount of tastings/food we got.
We only had 6 stops. At three of the six stops we did try two different types of the same food. So that's six tastings. Then at the coffee shop the gave us a mini stroopwafel because the place we were going to stop at was closed. The cheese stop was amazing as there was a huge variety of cheeses to taste.
While I really enjoyed the tastes we had, I would have liked a bigger variety and I'm not so sure I would pay $113 again.

Walking through Amsterdam's markets, specialty food shops & stalls sampling many delicious local food items with the utterly delightful, and thoroughly knowledgeable Crista as our guide was a wonderful way to spend a beautiful sunny afternoon! Christa's knowledge of the history and background of so much we viewed passing by lovingly maintained older buildings and sites made this so much more than just a food tour! Being. physically limited and requiring the use of a cane when walking, Crista was extremely considerate of my situation and kept the pace at a level I felt comfortable with, but still making sure we got to experience everything!! We do food tours whenever we travel to new cities worldwide and this one was right up there with the best of them!

We enjoyed our experience. However, instead of only being in the farmer's market street area, I wish we had visited actual shops and stores. Marten was very knowledgeable but spent quite a lot of time talking about politics and somewhat bashing other countries...including ours.
