The Amsterdam Evening Cruise is highly recommended! The small-group setting makes the experience intimate, and a truly serene and romantic glide through the lit-up canals. Our captain was incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining, making the 1.5-hour tour fly by. With unlimited drinks and tasty Dutch snacks included, it's the perfect way to see the city's highlights at night.

Very nice your, my tour guide David was very friendly and knowledgable. Snacks were tasty and wine was good. I went at sunset and it was a very nice experience.

Overview

Amsterdam's canal network looks different after dark, with lit gables and bridge reflections that aren't visible during a daytime cruise—but accessing that perspective requires being on the water at the right time. This evening canal cruise covers the Rijksmuseum, Nemo Science Museum, and the Skinny Bridge by open electric boat, with an onboard bar available throughout.
  • See the city from a new perspective on the water
  • Maximize your photo opportunities on an open boat
  • Enjoy included snacks and drinks while you cruise
  • An express tour slots seamlessly into busy vacation itineraries

What's Included

  • 1,5-hour cruise in electric boat
  • Alcoholic Beverages
A wide variety of drinks, beer, wines and sodas
  • Snacks
Cheese, Dry Sausage, Cookies and sweets

    End point

This activity ends back at the meeting point.

    I was expecting a covered...

    Arlen_B, Apr 2026
I was expecting a covered boat, especially since it was cold & raining. The boat did not seem like the type of boat for nighttime canal cruise. We chose not to participate due to the circumstances. Very disappointing.

    Response from Host, Apr 2026

Hi Arlen, I'm a bit puzzled, as our description states all our boats are open starting April 1st. Also in winter we sail with a closed boat on certain time slots, being 11, 13, 15, 17, 19. Did you not read the description? Also we always allow guests to rebook to a more pleasant time. If you're still in town, we'd love to host you!

    Did not enjoy

    Carole_T, Apr 2026
Those sitting on the opposite side of the captain could not hear what he was saying. There was no microphone. Boat too crowded for comfort .

    Response from Host, Apr 2026

Thanks for your feedback, we appreciate you taking the time to share it. You’re absolutely right, if you’re sitting on the opposite side of the captain, you might miss parts of the story. We don’t use a microphone on purpose to keep things small and personal… which does mean our captain unfortunately isn’t equipped with a built-in speaker system. On the plus side, from that end of the boat you do get a full view of the captain in action. While the stories might fade out a little, the steering performance is always crystal clear, and he did spend hours in the gym for his amazing physique 😉 As for the space on board, we aim for a cozy atmosphere rather than an empty one, but we understand that “cozy” can feel a bit too cozy depending on where you’re seated. Thanks again for your feedback, it helps us keep improving.

I learned lots about Amsterdam that I otherwise would not know. Captain Joe was very knowledgeable & he told us much about the archeticture of the buildings we passed. A very relaxing time after a busy day sightseeing,

    Magical Amsterdam Canals

    Paula_G, Apr 2026
It was an open air boat which I expected closed But it turned out so much better! The weather was mild and our tour guide was wonderful. She was so friendly and knowledgeable and she made it seem like she really enjoyed her job. We shared the boat with others from Greece who were a hoot and there was plenty of wine!

Not the same boat as pictured.

    Sharon_K, Apr 2026
The picture is deceptive. The boat is an open boat not closed in, no heaters, no bathroom. The blankets had been soaked in an earlier rain storm so were not available and it was a very cold and windy night. The tour itself was awesome, we loved seeing the canals at night. Stephanie our captain was great, very friendly.

    Nikia_P, Mar 2026
We did the Captain Jack’s canal tour in Amsterdam and overall it was a good experience. Our captain was Joe (not Jack!), and he was fun, friendly, and kept the tour engaging. The ticket includes wine, beer, soft drinks, cheese and crackers, and some candies, which was a nice touch. Everything is set out for passengers to help themselves. If you’re a bit of a germ-conscious person, that setup may not be your favorite, but it’s there if you want it. We did the evening tour, which gives you nice views of the canal lights. However, the boat had plastic windows that were pretty scratched up, making it hard to see clearly unless you were seated right in front of the glass panels. Since not everyone gets those seats, it can be difficult to really appreciate the architecture or take photos at night. In hindsight, I’d probably recommend going during the daytime if sightseeing is your main goal. Also, the inside of the boat was chilly but the had blankets and very dark, so it was hard to see what you were eating. A little interior lighting would definitely improve the experience. We did have a minor boat bump during the tour, but everyone was fine—and it made the evening a bit more memorable! Overall: a fun captain and a relaxed vibe, but daytime may be better if you want clearer views of the city.

    Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thank you for taking the time to share such a balanced review, and great to hear you enjoyed the cruise and that Captain Joe made it fun and engaging. Good note on the evening views and the windows. We keep the interior lighting low on purpose, because brighter lights inside create reflections on the windows and actually make the view outside worse, especially at night. That said, we understand it can make it harder to see snacks and drinks, so we’ll keep looking for solutions that improve visibility onboard without hurting the sightseeing experience. Thanks also for the feedback on the self-serve setup and the window condition. We appreciate it, and we’ll take it on board. Hope to welcome you again, and if sightseeing is your main goal, your daytime suggestion is spot on.

    A smashing trip

Don't wait to be invited to eat/drink! A lovely selection of nibbles & drinks set off this entertaining evening boat trip. It takes in the canals at their most beautiful.

    The perfect introduction to Amsterdam

    Danielle_B, Dec 2025
I’ve actually done this canal tour three times now, once with a friend, once with my mother, and now finally with my husband. It’s an easy way to learn a bit about Amsterdam and its history while relaxing with wine and some light snacks. The strength of the tour really depends on it’s captain, so thankfully ours had a cheery attitude and was full of great insights that kept our group engaged throughout the tour. If you’re looking for an easy way to introduce yourself to Amsterdam, this is perfect!

    David_W, Oct 2025
I had booked a 6:00 pm cruise. The tour operator messaged me saying they had to change the schedule, and asked if 7:00 pm would work. I had already walked to the area and didn’t feel like rescheduling for another day. Seeing the lights on the buildings was nice, but it had been raining and it was very cold. In hindsight, I wish I had rescheduled. The captain was very knowledgeable and entertaining.

Wonderful time. Great guide / owner. Scenery is spectacular. Make sure you hit the bathroom before you board or limit your alcohol intake because there is no bathroom and I nearly had an embarrassing moment 😊

This was a lot of fun and as we got lost on the way they even called us to say where they was. Very informative and would definitely recommend

Outstanding narration from driver. Aran? Just thought there would be another crew member helping with drinks etc. we sat close to capt on back of boat and really difficult to climb over other people to get to drinks in lower area

    Response from Host, Sep 2025

Hi there, Thank you for your kind words about Arne, we’ll make sure he hears your compliment, he’ll be very happy to know you enjoyed his narration! I understand what you mean about the drinks. On our cruises the setup is self-service, so guests can help themselves throughout the tour, but we know it can sometimes be a bit tricky when the boat is full. We also do this so the guests are encouraged to interact with eachother. We’ll take your feedback to heart as we keep looking for ways to make it smoother for everyone. We truly appreciate you sharing your thoughts, and we’d love to welcome you back on board another time! Warm regards
