What To Expect
Make your own way to Húsavík harbor to board your ship – a carbon neutral boat that uses a unique hybrid propulsion system and runs on renewable energy instead of fossil fuel. Set out to sail around Skjálfandi bay, admiring the wild scenery of Iceland’s north coast, and looking out for dolphins and sea birds along the coast.
As you approach the whales, listen as your guide tells you more about the magnificent creatures, and explains how the low-noise, low-energy ship is designed to cause minimal interference with their natural environment. If you’re lucky, spot minke, and humpback whales, or even rarer breeds such as sperm whales, pilot whales, or mighty blue whales.
On the way back to shore, warm up with a hot chocolate and some delicious cinnamon buns.

Wow, saw over a dozen humpback whales. They put on quite a show. The crew was nice and informative. The boat was comfortable and stable. Highly recommend. Don't forget a hat and gloves, it gets pretty cold on the water.

The electric boat was unavailable so we took this one. Very rocky ride despite calmish seas. Not very informative and one or two sightings. Felt overcrowded

Dear Sandra,
Thank you for taking your time to share your experience with us. We welcome any sort of feedback that can help us improve our services.
I'm sorry to hear that you were unable to do the whale watching on our electric boat as you originally planned. As I'm sure was informed to you, our electric boat Andvari, was unable to operate the tour due to unforeseen maintenance.
It saddens us to hear that you were disappointed with the sightings. As you know, on our tours we are dealing with wild nature and therefore we can never guarantee any sightings on our tours and we can never know what to expect. No two tours are the same, and therefore some tours are simply a bit more tricky than others.
I'm sorry to hear you felt the boat overcrowded. All your points are valid and I’ll make sure to pass your concerns to the appropriate people in order for us to improve our services.
I really hope we’ll get the chance to welcome you on board with us again! If you want to contact us, feel free to write us an email or give us a call anytime.
All the best,
Signý - Team North Sailing

Seeing the humpback whales up close, and having a knowledgeable guide. The hot chocolate and cinnamon roll was a nice touch at the end of the tour :)

My daughter and I book the eco-friendly silent ship. We saw 5 humpback whales. One close by the ship and swiming underneath the ship. Fantastic!

The people at North Sailing were very nice and tried hard to reschedule us, but the rescedule was also cancelled due to bad weather.
Response from Host, Jul 2023
I am very sorry that you didn't get a chance to go on your tour, we did indeed have some very rough weather this week unfortunately. Summer in Iceland can also be very unpredictable.
We hope that you do come on board with us the next time you visit Iceland.

Behövde byta startort med kort varsel. Vilket innebar 1,5 Tim i bil.

Dear Ellinor, thank you very much for taking the time to write an honest review.
We want to apologize for the location change with short notice and the inconvenience that may have caused you. The safety and comfort of our passengers are our top priority. On the day of your tour we had bad weather and sea conditions as you probably know and therefore we had to cancel all our tours from Húsavík that day.
We are happy to be able to offer our other location in Árskógssandur 1.5 hour from Húsavík. Better weather and sea conditions there allowed to us to sail out from there that day ensuring that our guests can still enjoy whale watching while staying in the North of Iceland.
We're sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with the tour. Each tour is unique and our crew always does their best to locate the whales. As you know, we are dealing with wild nature and can never guarantee whale sightings though we always try our best. This summer, the whales have been very close to Árskógssandur meaning that sometimes we don't have to sail very far out as we've been having good whale sightings in the fjord. Of course, other days, we have to sail further out to spot the first whale!
We hope you consider North Sailing again if you are ever planning whale watching in the nearest future, if you want to try the rib boat we highly recommend checking out Húsavík Adventures! - Signý
