    Great food stops. Guide...

Great food stops. Guide was special. He is starting up a new business and at the moment he is a one man show. But not a rookie as he has years of experience with food tours he hosted in Reykjavik.

Dagur has put together a wonderful sampling of Icelandic tastes. The food is delicious and the thoughtful selection leaves you satisfied without being uncomfortably over-full. Dagur is incredibly polite and eager to share his passion for Icelandic food and culture. This is must-do activity in Akureyri!

    Awesome Food Tour!!

A fantastic food and city tour. Day our tour guide was great and very proud to show off his hometown. Lots of knowledge about his town and the 4 food stops were fantastic. The best fish soup I have had, great hotdog of course, and the lamb was really great topped off by a fantastic “cheesecake”. If you are in the area you must do this tour with Day who has started this tour on his own. Don’t use the ship tour, go with Day!!

Wish there was a five plus review!

It was fabulous. Our guide Day did an excellent job curating the restaurants. All of the restaurants were fabulous! Don’t eat before you go!

    Excellent experience

Excellent tour. Dagur is a very enthusiastic and knowledgable guide. Several stops with great tasting food, and a story to accompany, as well as some of the history of Akureyri. And some corny jokes thrown in for good measure. Not a huge amount of walking, which is understandable given the size of the town, but that’s not a bad thing either!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 An Unforgettable Taste of Akureyri — A Must-Do on Your Cruise Stop!

    Bonnie_R, Jul 2025
If your cruise docks in Akureyri, this food walk is an absolute must. It was one of the best things we did in Iceland—equal parts delicious, cultural, and personal. By the end, we weren’t just full—we felt like we had truly experienced the town. Our guide, Dagur (Day) who grew up in Akureyri, was fantastic—warm, funny, and full of local insight that made the tour feel like we were walking with a longtime friend. He knew the stories behind every stop, every bite, and every street corner, and his passion for the area made everything more meaningful. Now, the food! We started with a rich and cozy Icelandic fish soup that instantly warmed us up and set the tone for what was to come. From there, we tried the famous Icelandic hot dog—loaded up the traditional way and absolutely delicious (my son was a big fan!). Next up: perfectly cooked lamb loin, served with earthy root vegetables grown right in Akureyri. The flavors were fresh, local, and beautifully balanced—easily a highlight of the tour. And just when we thought we couldn’t be surprised again, we ended with the most fascinating dessert: a cheese-cake style dish that was slightly sweet, totally unexpected, and genuinely memorable. The walk itself was scenic and easy, with breathtaking fjord views and charming streets around every corner. We left full, happy, and totally in love with this little town. Whether you’re a foodie, a culture lover, or just looking for something authentic and fun to do during your stop—add this to your cruise itinerary. It’s the best way to taste the heart of Akureyri.

This was one of the best food tours we have ever taken. Our guide Daguk (Day) was excellent. The meeting instructions were clear and he was there at the predetermined time. From there the tour was paced to accommodate us as we were seniors and the establishments we visited were very welcoming. The TASTE portions were surprisingly generous and we enjoyed each place we visited. I would highly recommend this tour and make sure you ask for DAY as your guide..
