This was a beautiful horseback tour through a section of Griffith Park. We saw so much iconic LA with the nature of California. Hydrate, wear comfortable clothes and shoes, you cannot carry a bag or water with you. You will get dusty! My horse and my daughter’s horses were so sweet. The cowgirls/tour guides instructed us very well to manage our horse on the trail. They were so helpful! We are both beginner riders and we had a blast. 10/10 would do again in a heartbeat.

I recently had a wonderful solo horseback riding experience that I highly recommend. The ride was well-guided, and the duration felt ideal for enjoying the scenery and the overall adventure. The information provided beforehand was very useful, though I would have appreciated a specific “what to wear” guide to help with preparation.
One note for future riders: while the booking stated the ride would start at 9, and I assumed an hour ride meant we would be done by 10, we didn’t finish right about 11. I wasn’t in a rush, but this is worth keeping in mind if you are planning back-to-back activities. All in all, it was a great experience that I would gladly do again! :))

No prior experience of horse riding is required. The staff is professional and gentle and can accommodate for special needs where possible. Scenery is beautiful

We came up as part of the LA leg of our California trip. We had an absolutely fantastic time. The staff were wonderful - particularly Cass - and the views were spectacular. Horses really well trained, and the whole ride was well organized and managed. So pleased, we all bought one of the very srylish shirts. Thank you Sunset Ranch!

Would love to go again

This was Absolutely terrifying. However, I’m so grateful to the attentive staff who was by my side completely the entire time. My hand was literally shaking for about the entire first half, but after working with Lennox, my spirit was completely calm and I forgot I was up there riding at times! It’s something I will never forget. Thank you for this experience Lennox and staff, I’ve been telling everyone about it as I type!!

We were celebrating a birthday and the tour operators made the entire experience very special. They also made sure everyone was safe and went over everything necessary before we even got on the horse and continued to make sure we were safe throughout the ride.

I had an amazing time! I was nervous but my guide assured me that was normal and was there to answer all my questions before and during the ride! It was a great nature experience and a unique way to experience some of LAs sights including the Hollywood sign.

Overall thoughts/feelings: this was a very good experience for beginners.
Note: there are comments online saying that Google Maps was taking visitors to the wrong place. I personally did not have any problems with it, but nevertheless a guided map was provided which was very nice.
Here is a brief synopsis of my trip:
When you first arrive, you will check in with someone by the horses. It is like a little shed they call the "office." If you did end up bringing any bags, you could leave it in there for the duration of your trip. They also provide waters for free when asked.
Then you go and pick out a helmet (sizes XS, S, M, L). I felt like I was right in between a small and a medium, so I chose the medium and put my hair in a bun to add extra cushion. Fit pretty snug afterwards.
Then we all got a demonstration of how to hold the reigns and steer the horses. Although, the horses know what they are doing and you do not really need to control or steer them at all.
Once everyone got on, we are all just standing a big group. You might not be next to the person you came with, but once the trail starts and the horses are single file, the tour guides come and rearrange the line so you are either in front or behind the person you came with.
During the actual ride, the horses have been trained to walk near the edge of the cliff. So if you are afraid of heights, this might not be the experience for you.
The tour guides even went down the line and offered to take photos of you on your personal device. So there were no extra costs for photos, which is great.
The only time we stopped on the trail was for the horses to have a potty break. Other than that, you are constantly walking. Some horses like to trot because they are excited. Others might be more tired and slow. But either way, you will remain with the group because a tour guide is always in front leading, and one behind making sure nobody is left behind.
Do be prepared to collect a little dirt on your clothes. Sunglasses are recommended, especially ones that fully wrap around so no dirt gets in your eyes. Occasionally the wind might blow up the dust that the horse hooves create when walking. And DEFINITELY wear sunblock!!
Other than that, really cool experience to have :)

So very well worth every penny!
Great view of sign....while you're sitting on a horse!
Great staff!
Do this....you'll be glad you did!...
Say hello to my new pal Jupiter!

Our trail ride was amazing with sweeping views of Hollywood. Our guide was wonderful and all of the ranch hands were super friendly and helpful. Pay attention to their specialized GPS instructions as we did have to pivot a bit to get there but it was well worth it. I would do this again for sure!

Great experience! It was my son’s first time ridding solo and he had an amazing time! The horses where gentle and well trained. The guides where welcoming and made my son feel safe. We will definitely do this again in the future!

We did the one-hour horseback ride with our two children (ages 10 and 14), and we had a great experience. The guides were friendly, helpful, and took a few minutes before the ride to give the kids a quick lesson so they felt comfortable on their horses.
The ride offers beautiful scenery and stunning views of the Hollywood Hills, making it a unique way to experience the area. My only minor complaint is that the view of the Hollywood Sign is very brief and only a partial view, so if you’re expecting a long stop with a perfect photo opportunity, you may be disappointed.
Overall, it was a fun family activity, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a scenic horseback ride.

This is a great way to be near the city, but yet feel as if you are far away. What a fun adventure! The views of LA were beautiful, and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Plus my horse Jesse was just perfect!

Great experience, and the guides were so helpful and informative. I will definitely be coming back again.

Amazing experience that I would recommend for all to try. I was apprehensive and terrified of riding a horse on the mountain but the guides made us feel at ease and my horse was great. Good times and great memories. Thank you.

Boys ages 11, 13, 15 loved it. Easy for older adults (me)
Horses are well-behaved.
Guides are excellent
James_H, May 2026
Helpful and considerate staff, appropriate horses, some senic vistas, and an authentically dusty trail. I recommend buying a bandana before you start - $5 at the office.
Lola_I, May 2026
So beautiful and serene. A very memorable experience! Totally worth it! The guides are extremely friendly, they are safety conscious, and the horses are incredible.

Very detailed, friendly, patient, very nice team.
Horses are well kept, very friendly.
The ride and the view was fantastic.
Will most definitely do it again when I go back LA.

Fabulous horse back trail ride and a great view of the Hollywood sign and the Griffith Observatory as well as the city itself.
Well organised and very helpful staff - everyone made to feel at ease.

This was a fun activity to do with my partner. It’s great for both beginners and experienced riders. Our guide even took photos and videos of us, which was a nice touch. It can get a little dusty, so keep that in mind when dressing for the occasion—I recommend bringing a scarf or a disposable cover to create a barrier between your head and the helmet they provide, and wearing shoes you don’t mind getting dusty.

Workers seem to love their job and that plays a big part of how things are ran. Instructors were friendly and knowledgeable. I will be back with my family and friends. Horses are kept well and loved!
Asa_K, Apr 2026
It was amazing!! I was nervous at first, but once you get onto the horse you can instantly feel the trustworthiness. Would most definitely recommend!

This was my first time all the way from Australia. First time riding a horse and it rained. Had Ashleigh. Very professional.

I had a really disappointing experience with this horseback riding booking. I purchased tickets the same day since it was my birthday, and while heading from San Diego to Los Angeles, our arrival time updated to about 30 minutes after the scheduled start time. Things happen, so I tried to contact the operator through the Viator app and by calling their number multiple times, but couldn’t reach anyone.
I was also trying to get in contact with the operator because I visit San Diego at least twice a year and was hoping to simply reschedule the experience, especially since I had already paid $200. I wasn’t looking to cause any issues—just trying to find a reasonable solution.
I then contacted customer service, who said they would submit a refund request—but that ultimately got denied. That was frustrating on its own, but what made it worse was the complete lack of communication from the operator. I wasn’t even asking to join the full ride at that point—I just wanted to know if there was any chance we could still stop by, see the horses, maybe feed them, or do something small with the time we had left so the trip wouldn’t feel like a total loss.
No one ever got back to me, which felt very unprofessional and inconsiderate. Poor communication, no flexibility, and no effort to make things right really ruined what was supposed to be a special birthday experience.

This was a great experience as a beginner it was my first time on a horse. This is great for beginners and learning how to control and navigate a horse and understanding that they respond to body language
Angela_A, Mar 2026
Amazing experience all the workers were so welcoming and sweet, great vibes all around and super accommodating, WILL MOST DEF BE BACK SOON!
ThaZin_N, Mar 2026
Great view, friendly staffs, it was a great experience as a beginner, I was a bit nervous but overall it was wonderful.
Kellie_D, Mar 2026
Hmmmm….. mixed emotions. Good but not really. Way too many horses in the group ride…..it’s super slow and by the time we finally got on a horse and waited for the rest of the group we were 30 minutes just sitting! Smaller groups would be better. Would not recommend this place to a friend.
