Admission to the Thomas Wolfe Memorial is US$5 for adults, US$4 for military members and seniors over 65, and US$1 for young people aged 3–17; tax is added to all ticket sales. Infants aged 2 and under visit for free, and guided tours are included in the ticket price.

The memorial’s visitor center features exhibits on Wolfe's life, family, and writing, and there’s a 22-minute film to watch during your tour. The adjoining Old Kentucky Home boardinghouse is furnished to reflect Wolfe's childhood there, and the property includes the Wolfe children's playhouse and a gift shop with books and souvenirs.

The site preserves the boardinghouse where novelist Thomas Wolfe grew up, which he fictionalized as “Dixieland" in his acclaimed 1929 autobiographical novel, Look Homeward, Angel. Despite being one of Asheville’s most famous citizens, the book's frank portrayal of real Asheville residents was controversial enough to get it banned from the local library for years.

Plan for about 1.5 hours total if you’d like to experience everything at the memorial. Guided tours last 45 minutes and run hourly on the half-hour, with the last tour typically starting at 4:30pm. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early to watch the introductory video and browse exhibits before a tour.

Yes. The Thomas Wolfe Memorial is a strong pick for literature lovers and history buffs, offering an authentic, guided look at a National Historic Landmark tied to a major American novelist. Visitors without literary interests may find it less compelling than Asheville's bigger-ticket attractions, but it's inexpensive and easy to fit into a sightseeing itinerary if exploring locally.
