Excellent Broader Historical Context for D-Day and WWII in Europe

Eloise, our guide and driver, did a wonderful job of providing a larger context for the role of Normandy as the beach-head for the invasion of Hitler's Fortress Europe. She also emphasized that while peope tend to think of Normandy as "D-Day," it was actually the operational center for weeks thereafter, and the toe-hold that eventually lead to the defeat of the Axis. She presented stories of specific operations that happened at the sites we visited, as well as what those early operations meant for what came after and for the French locals. She also pointed out the historical inaccuracies in many of the opperational details in fictionalized accounts of D-Day, such as Saving Private Ryan. In addition to the beaches, the vist to the U.S. Military cemetery provided a powerful visual reminder of the human cost of the war in Europe. Eloise has an encyclopedic knowledge of WWII history, and was happy to answer any questions we had. She was also just really fun to talk with. She also pointed out the hedgerows and the role they played, as well as places featured in accounts of the war like Band of Brothers. She was, in short, awesome.

Impressive day.

Lauren was a terrific driver and guide. We are knowledgeable about D day, but learned some new things. It was a rainy and windy day, but Lauren even found places for us to be out of the elements whenever possible. I was having trouble with my knee, and she was very solicitous, helping me in and out of the van and down a staircase. She took us to a nice place for lunch (sort of a cafeteria with sandwiches, salads, etc). Having just watched the movie The Longest Day, it was fun to see the church in Sainte Mere Eglise where the paratrooper was hanging from the steeple. Lauren told us that they filmed in the town.

Sidecar tour!

This was a very unique and enjoyable experience. If you ride a motorcycle, do not hesitate to become a sidecar passenger on this immersive tour of the D-Day invasion… Be prepared to be amazed. The side car seat was way more comfortable than the seat on the train from Paris to Bayeau! Remi, my guide, was very knowledgeable and personable. He truly made the trip and experience to remember. The lunch stop was also an experience in and of itself whatever you do try the croissant burger!

Very Informative & Well Done

We booked the 8 1/2 hour tour which sounds like a long time period, but was perfectly planned with time scheduled to enjoy lunch and do a bit of touring in the museum. We learned so much!! Our guide was so informative and very well spoken. Saw two different beaches, Omaha and Utah, as well as the American Cemetery with its beautiful gardens and Memorial Wall. Very somber but very moving. A heartbreaking reminder of the courage, sacrifice and bravery that changed the world forever. Lest we forget.

Amazing!!!

An absolutely phenomenal experience! Our guide, Margot, was organized, brilliant, warm, and highly engaging. She shared wonderful history about the abbey and hidden gems that we never would have discovered on our own. The tour was perfectly paced, and Margot went above and beyond to make sure everyone in our group was comfortable and having fun. Five stars all around! Fantastic memory! (Our group was fine, but I feel overall the trip should have a warning that there is a lot of walking and no way to access the abbey without managing many cobblestone steps.)

Where to begin!! Pauline our guide was absolutely fabulous. Her grasps of the events of June 6th was wonderful. I am a history major with a specialty in WWII history. There was very little I had to add to her presentation. My wife and I would like to extend an invitation to her if she ever wanted to travel to southern California for vacation, we would love to repay her for the wonderful job she did. A Tour de force

Helene was our guide and was terrific. This tour was flexible with destinations so we were never rushed. We could spend more time at locations based on what we liked. The paratrooper museum was great and instead of Utah beach we went to Arromanches where the British and Canadians landed and part of the artificial reef still survives.
