From there we’ll hit the trail and start a fun descent toward San Mateo las Flores, with plenty of playful sections along the way. Afterwards, we’ll traverse back toward El Hato before climbing up to Hobbitenango, where we’ll drop into another stretch of great singletrack. The trail leads us down to Earth Lodge, a perfect spot to pause for a drink and take in the sweeping views of the Antigua valley. From there, we’ll finish with one more trail descent back toward Antigua, with options to add a few extra sections depending on how the group is feeling.

Amazing!!!

Joshua is the best!

Joshua was our driver for multiple rides throughout my stay in Guatemala. We loved having him! He helped us with our bags, gave us recommendations and was a pleasure to work with. We had to use the bathroom on our longer rides and he took us to safe, clean spots to use the bathroom and stock up on snacks. I highly recommend this company and even more, highly recommend Joshua as your private driver.

Amazing hike!

This was an amazing hike! Very intense in the beginning since it's a steep climb, but the views (and the marshmallows) are worth it! Our guide Ervin was great, very knowledgeable and funny too. PSA: The road to the volcano is pretty winding, so if you get motion sickness easily I'd recommend using a scopolamine patch or taking some Dramamine before.

Great time with CA!

Toni and team were great! The trip was affordable, fun, and each detail was carefully planned. Read the packet before you go and you’ll know almost all of the information. Everyone was helpful and answered any additional questions! Plenty of hotels near their headquarters in Antigua, and about half a block away is a safe/and secure parking spot for 13 USD per day.

Unique experience and well organized

We loved experiencing the volcano. In particular, the lava field was fascinating. It felt like a uniquely Guatemalan experience, which is what we were looking for. The tour was really well organized, including excellent communication days before the outing and during our tour. We had 3 guides that were spread out amongst our group to assist with navigation and safety. Tips: - There is about a 1.5 hour drive through the mountains in a shuttle before and after the ATV part, so come prepared if you are prone to motion sickness. - Wear hiking boots. We did ok in sneakers, but hiking boots would have made for an easier experience. - For novice ATV drivers… the instructor provided good operating instructions and also provided advice on navigating some more challenging parts of the trail throughout the trek. It is the rainy season, so we could see where some parts of the trail were washed out, etc. If you’re uncomfortable, they do provide an option to back out of driving before leaving. Also, the ATVs can accommodate 2 people if you want to designate a driver and a rider.

A fun way to get good views without hiking

We enjoyed the ATV sunset tour. Our guide, Fabricio, was fantastic—very attentive and helpful. The volcano views are spectacular. Riding the ATVs up and down the mountain was fun, although we had hoped for an off-road tour instead of only paved roads. The Hobbitenango theme park was only mildly interesting; its real value for us was as a backdrop for taking pictures.

Our driver Rolando was great. Our flight was delayed multiple times and the company was very accommodating to let us know it was no problem and someone would pick us up whenever we arrived. Rolando got us through the rush hour traffic in Guatemala City and to Antigua all in one piece and made sure we got into our accommodation before he left us. Would recommend Rolando and this company for your transfer needs in Guatemala

Challenging but Unforgettable Acatenango Experience

I did the overnight Acatenango hike with Ox Expeditions and was really impressed with how well organised everything was. The welcome briefing the night before is absolutely essential—it gives you a clear idea of what to expect and how demanding the hike truly is. One thing I really appreciated was that they offer lots of warm clothing to hire for free, which meant I didn’t have to pack bulky layers in my own bag. I would strongly recommend hiring a porter for the ascent (for an additional charge). The hike is steep, long and genuinely difficult, and having someone carry your main bag makes a huge difference. Be prepared for very cold temperatures at base camp. Food is provided and perfectly fine for the conditions, but the campsite itself is very basic. It’s also worth knowing that you’re not guaranteed dramatic views or a clear sight of Fuego erupting—weather and cloud cover can change quickly. Even so, the experience is absolutely worth it. Reaching the top and spending the night on the volcano is something I’ll never forget.
