Top Costa Rica White Water Rafting

Our family had an absolutely incredible experience with Amigos del Río! This was one of the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica. From the moment they picked us up at our Airbnb until they dropped us back off, everything was seamless, well organized, and so much fun. During the drive, our guides shared interesting facts about Costa Rica’s history, wildlife, culture, and the towns we passed through, making the drive part of the adventure. Our guides were funny, knowledgeable, and made everyone feel completely at ease. Safety was clearly their top priority, which was especially important since we were rafting with kids. They kept the children laughing while teaching them about the river and the surrounding rainforest, creating the perfect mix of adventure, education, and fun. One of our favorite parts of the day was stopping at a beautiful waterfall along the river. We had time to enjoy the scenery, cool off, and recharge while the guides served fresh fruit and snacks. It was such a beautiful stop and made an already amazing day even more memorable. The rafting was exciting, the scenery was breathtaking, and the entire Amigos del Río team was professional, welcoming, and passionate about what they do. To end the day, they treated us to a delicious traditional Costa Rican lunch before driving us back to our Airbnb. If you’re visiting the Manuel Antonio or Quepos area, don’t miss this experience. Elvis was an amazing guide! He made the trip so much fun! On the day we rafted, it was storming and raining SO HARD! Very unusual for this area. We almost canceled but they assured us the water level is regulated by the dam and we would be safe. We were already planning to be wet on the rapids so we went for it! It was a blast!!! We laughed and squealed the whole time! We saw iguanas in the trees. We paddled and got drenched. Was it cold? Yes. Did the rain pour on us? Yes. Did Elvis and the other guides do a great job at keeping us entertained and having fun? Absolutely! Our boat had 2 adults, a 13yo who paddled and an 11 and 9 year old who didn’t paddle. We all loved it and no one fell out!

The dinner preparation was well streamlined. It felt fun - not like work. There were two other families there besides us. There's def something for all ages, but prob not under 3 years old. There was plenty to eat! The meal is their 'typical' food. We were the only ones to stay for the Salsa lesson, so it felt like a private lesson. It was about an hour and was awesome. It was up in a cool loft and was so much fun (even if you have 2 left feet!!).

Our white-water rafting excursion was easily one of the highlights of our trip! A huge thank you to our guide, Junior, who made the entire experience unforgettable. As first-time rafters, we were a little nervous, but Junior was incredibly friendly, professional, and knowledgeable from start to finish. He explained everything clearly, kept us informed throughout the trip, and most importantly, made us feel completely safe on the river. His confidence and expertise allowed us to relax, have fun, and enjoy the adventure. The rafting itself was exciting, beautiful, and well-organized, but Junior's outstanding service truly made the experience special. If you're considering this excursion, we highly recommend it—and if you get Junior as your guide, you're in excellent hands! Booked this experience because we had to fill one of our last days, and went into it with no expectations. Although I was a little nervous at first, it ended up being so fun! Our guide Aurelio was super nice and informative, and had an amazing vibe! We also felt super safe as there are many other rafts and individual guides in the river that go and help out when people get pulled in the water (although this is rare). Overall amazing experience, and even though this seems like more of an adrenaline excursion, at times it felt like a nature one as well because of the AMAZING views and huge amount of wild life (especially birds) that we got to see. Overall a 10/10 and I would highly recommend this if you’re looking for something fun and different for your trip!!

This adventure is 100% worth the drive from San Jose. The views were breathtaking, the guide was so knowledgeable. If you do this tour, ask for Estebàn! He made the trip worth it with great group morale. At one point you can even jump in the river and float. As someone who has never been white water rafting I felt safe the entire time.

My husband and I were so happy with our experience! The guides were honestly the best. They were so aware of our safety and answered all our questions. We had time to swim around and jump off a small cliff into the water. They were so experienced! If you like thrill and excitement, do this!

We had a communication blip on starting location as the location didn’t match the text communications. We thought we had hotel pickup and Wave thought we were meeting there. It ultimately was just an unfortunate miscommunication and we missed the morning departure for Zip-lining. Wave worked hard to rearrange our day to ensure we could still experience both. They were very accommodating and this entire experience ended up being the highlight of our trip! We had a blast experiencing the rapids with our guide Kervin. He was fun and very personable. We would highly recommend their company and use them again. Because we had to shift our time, we had to make it back for zip-lining by 3p. Wave coordinated an alternative lunch and got us delicious boxed lunches. We made it to Go Adventure and enjoyed a fun experience zip-lining! The guides were phenomenal and our 8 year old was very attached to his guide that travelled the lines with him! He was nervous at first but his guide made him feel so comfortable and he LOVED the experience. We were so grateful to both companies and the guides. This will definitely be an experience we’ll reflect fondly on and cherish memories from forever. Thank you!!
