A Must Do in La Fortuna

There were enough rapids to feel challenging but not scary. Our guide Garrison was great - we had a lot of fun! We would recommend this as a must-do in La Fortuna Bring Cash to purchase pictures to avoid the 13% credit card fee

Unfortunately the outflow of the river was reduced by the power company due to some maintenance issue so we were not able to get the tour we were expecting. We were not able to tube the last portion of the trip due to safety concerns. The first part of the tour was as advertised however we did pay extra to tube the last part and we ended up with rafting the last portion on a very diminished flow. I understand the safety aspect but feel we overpaid for what we received.

White water rafting - a fun challenge. White water tubing - quite terrifying!

We will remember this day out for a long time! The white water rafting was great, and we even managed to spot some wildlife in the trees and on rocks along the river as well. The tour really fell down though on it's lack of communication on what the plan was for my husband and I when it came to the tubing part of the tour... It was after the half way break of the tour that they tried to put us in the tubes and we realised what we'd signed up for. Just to give some general advice on the tubing - there was only myself and my husband who had signed up to do this out of the 6 boats (watching on in shock) on the tour that day. You get roped onto the back of a boat and are dragged along like a dingleberry through scary rapids! When I used to think of tubing I'd have associated it with a lazy river. It's my fault for not reading the description properly when booking, but yeah, a lazy river bob along it was not. Also, they prefer you to be on separate boats for safety reasons, but I said I wasn't comfortable with that as I wanted to do the experience with my husband. So I nearly didn't do it at one point. We were able to be attached to the back of the same boat eventually. Whilst I was hyperventilating with laughter / fear, we were bashed around and were thrown out the tubes a few times. I'm glad we experienced it now, but it was pretty mad! Thank god for hard hats! The lunch included at the end was nice. Re photos shown at the end - It's a shame you have to pay so much ($40) for the pictures, the cost can be shared between the group, but if not everyone on the boat is up for buying pictures, then you still have to pay the full $40 yourself. In hindsight I wish we'd asked if we could pay less for just our tubing photos of just us, as we obviously had no incentive to share those with others in the boat group afterwards, but we only thought of that after we'd left.

Everything from the booking to the parking to the drive went very smoothly. Staff was super awesome from the very start. Can't ask for a better experience. The guides were super patient and friendly. The knowledge of the area and able to spot wildlife was incredible. I wouldn't have changed the thing. I don't know how the other rafting companies are but this one is a must
