What a wonderful time we had riding on the tall ships on Lake Ontario. It was smooth sailing and a very efficient and friendly crew. We loved when they burst out in song. It was amazing watching them work together as a team getting the sales up in the ship moving so smoothly. This is a must for anybody visiting Toronto.

This is an amazing experience! From the stories told, the friendly and helpful staff, the beautiful sunny (hot) day with a cool breeze blowing. It was one of my favourite excursions while in Toronto!

Overview

Enjoy a one-of-a-kind way to tour the Toronto Harbour on this tall-ship boat cruise. Hop aboard your vessel, a three-masted 1930s schooner, and set sail. Help the crew raise the sails or sit back and relax with on-board drinks and bites (additional expense). Enjoy panoramic views over Toronto’s islands and skyline—a view that few other visitors get to see—listen to sea shanties, and marvel as the ship’s cannon is fired.
  • Enjoy a unique perspective of the city from the water's edge
  • Travel in style aboard a vintage vessel with heaps of character
  • Choose from several departure times to suit your schedule
  • Purchase a commemorative photo of your outing, if you like

It is a MUST adventure for anyone, young and old. We took the 7:30 pm tour. The return to Toronto Harbor is absolutely beautiful with the CN Tower light-up and the landscape of the City of Toronto illuminated. I helped with the sails. A nice and fun experience. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. It was a great evening full of memories. I bought lovely T-shirts for myself and my friend.

Hi There, Thank you for your review!

Wonderful view of the sunset!

Christine_G, Sep 2025
We had fun! The views of Toronto and the beautiful sunset were amazing. If you’re not seasick try it, it’s worth it and not expensive.

Relaxing Cruise, but No City History

Ron_E, Sep 2025
Crew was great! They give a hands on opportunity to help raise the main sail; it was fun but it's a lot of work. Basically only played music. The excursion did include a very short history of the vessel, which was interesting but couldn't have been 5 minutes if that. It was just disappointing that there was no narration about the city history, buildings, or construction of the harbour and extension of the city waterfront. It was a VERY RELAXING 1-hour (after getting the sail raised), just BEWARE - It is called a CRUISE not a TOUR.

Sunset sail lake Ontario

Evening cruise mid September, sunsets & temperature are amazing. Crew was fun, nice. Good job of entertaining. Telling the history of the ship

Thank you for your review, we are glad you enjoyed sailing with us!

Lacking

Marty_S, Sep 2025
The ship was really cool and it was fun watching the crew at work. The harbor and surrounding area was beautiful but I would have liked more narration as to what we were seeing and maybe have some of the Toronto skyline pointed out.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the ship, watching the crew in action, and taking in the beautiful harbour and skyline. To clarify, we do not offer a guided tour and we make no claim to do so in our advertising. There are many tour boats in the harbour that provide narrated commentary, but what Kajama offers is something different, a chance to relax aboard a 95-year-old historical tall ship while enjoying the unique experience of sailing and taking in Toronto’s views from the water.

Worth every penny

Sue_T, Sep 2025
The ship is wonderful with its sails unfurled. Crew was very helpful and entertaining. A beautiful time spent on Lake Ontario!

Para-Pirate for a day

Phil_N, Sep 2025
They precede terms with "Para" meaning "not really" like Paramilitary, it's not really the military but 3rd party contractors. Para-medic. They're not really doctors but they help out until the drs can step in. Para-normal, not really normal, so I'm calling this Para-pirate. Its for pirate wannabes :D [ note: I would have called it para-sailing but that's already been taken lol ] the boat does not "sail". They pull up some old sails for show but it motors out to the eastern gap, turns around and comes back. They get passengers to hoist the two main sails. The package it as if you get to be part of the crew but really it's because it's hard! Your not only raising a heavy old sail but also the gaff rig at the top which is a heavy wooden boom. Plus the sail and the gaff rig attach to the mast with ropes that are supposed to slide up and down the mast. (can't imagine they last very long) they get caught on the way up and the way down. It's not a boat I'd be interested in buying let's put it that way. The crew lowers them at the end because that's easier lol. Imagine the crew, (there were only 4 on deck) having to raise these heavy sails several times a day, every day. I'd be outsourcing this to the passengers as well! I was under the impression they sail and that they would sail around the island. They didn't. A passenger asked a crew member if they actually sail. He said; "we ARE sailing. The motor is in neutral and that's the generator you are hearing." This was an insult to sailors. For you who actually sail, the foresail (staysail on a schooner) was always on the port side, backwinded. Even if they could sail, they never even bothered to sheet the sail to the right side. In the eastern gap, there was some wind, a westerly breeze of about 15knts. The mail sails were full. We were on port tack and yet they never bothered to sheet the staysail to the starboard side, thus backwinding. This drove me nuts. I wanted to change it myself but didn't want to "rock the boat" so to speak, knowing we'd be back in a few minutes. I guess I had higher expectations. I understand why they motor around, because they are on a schedule. This boat would require a LOT of wind to sail around the island and you'd always have to be on a beam reach which is impossible if you planned to circumnavigate Toronto island. I understand this but don't oversell it to people. It's not a sailing excursion. Might as well go on one of the party boats. Maybe they "drive" around the island? I dunno. Not directly related but it was; $35.00 to park the car, $25.00 for a lemonade and a smoothie, (off boat) $20.00 for a pretzel and bottled water (on the boat). (aside from the boarding costs, which were reasonable by themselves) (off boat) there are no "his/hers" washrooms at harbourfront so expect to use "one size fits all" washrooms. Male, female and all the other genders they dream up are all using the same facilities so just be prepared for that or forever hold your pees :D At the foot of harbourfront they fly the LGTBQRST flag. I did not see any representation for heterosexuals. Other than that, it was a nice sunny day. We got to see some jets from the airshow. Would I do it again personally? Not on your life! Toronto was cool up till about 1985. After that, I would pay extra to avoid Toronto. Would I recommend it to a friend? Depends what they want and what they expect.

Thank you for your review. The Tall Ship Kajama is a 95-year-old historical schooner, and yes, she really does sail. Our professional crew raise the sails every single trip, as you experienced, and we allow guests to assist so they can get a taste of what it’s like to crew a tall ship. Of course, we don’t just hand the ropes over and let passengers figure it out—lifting a gaff rig and handling century-old sails requires strength, training, and daily practice. It’s not something a first-time visitor could realistically do on their own. It may also be worth clarifying what “sailing” actually means. A tall ship on a schedule in Toronto’s harbour cannot endlessly tack and jibe around the islands just to prove a point. Wind direction, safety, and timing all matter, which is why our experienced crew set the sails appropriately while also ensuring the voyage runs smoothly for everyone on board. You referred to Kajama as a “para-pirate” or “wannabe pirate” experience. To be clear, we do not advertise our sailings as pirate adventures, our cruises are not theatre productions. They are designed to provide a safe, relaxing, and authentic tall ship experience aboard a real, historic vessel. As stated clearly on our website: “The 2-hour day or evening sunset Toronto harbour boat cruise consists of a 30-minute boarding time, and an hour and a half sail out on the open waters of Lake Ontario.” This is exactly what we provide. Parking costs, smoothies, and Harbourfront washrooms, while unfortunate for you, are completely unrelated to our company. They have no bearing on the experience we deliver aboard Kajama. For guests who want a genuine sailing experience on a 95-year-old tall ship, with the chance to hoist sails, relax, and take in Toronto’s skyline from the water, Kajama continues to be one of the most unique excursions in the city.

beautiful cruise around the harbour. sunset cruise is the best so book early. The crew were fun & very professional. we liked the part where they tell us the history of the area plus would like to tour more around the islands.

Staff was friendly and it was a great experience. Just the right amount of time on the water. Would book it again.

A great way to spend the afternoon on the water

Summer_B, Aug 2025
This was a fun trip for a solo traveler looking to enjoy some time on the water while the rest of the family was at a convention. I arrived at the ticket booth an hour before sailing, exchanged my bar code for a ticket, and had plenty of time to sit on a nearby patio with a drink, watching the boats sail by, before walking to the boarding zone. I recommend you arrive at least 20 minutes early for a spot in line that allows you to choose where you want to sit. The crew was truly excellent - lots of skill on board and it was great watching them work the sails. I didn't try the food or bar, so I have no comments, but the experience was lovely without taking advantage. Definitely worth the price of admission.

Rainy day

Get a shaded spot in boat. It's hot. Friendly staff. Once sails are set there is more shade. Not too crowded.

Tall Ship City Skyline Cruise

Daryl_A, Aug 2025
It was a nice viewing of the Toronto skyline that allowed for both daylight and evening (dark) viewing. They did not provide much information regarding either the city or the island which we sailed partially around. Overall the cruise was very good but that had a lot to do with good weather and calm waters.

Ronald_A, Aug 2025
It was good and the only thing that could be improved would making the trip longer. I would limit the volume on purchasing booze. The whole boat knew their life stories of 2 girls and 2 guys

Overpriced

Yvonne_C, Aug 2025
Purchasing tickets at the door is less expensive than purchasing through Viator. The experience was nice - good view of the Toronto skyline at sunset.

Ship ride

Daniel_D, Aug 2025
Nice cruise for hour and half boat is cool. The city does look real nice from the water Can see the tower also CN .

Go if you want to stand for 2 hours!

Lear_Y, Aug 2025
There is seating, but for a 1.5 hr experience you are not guaranteed a seat. It’s packed to the brim, and the staff all seem exhausted and miserable. They offered our group of 4 only 3 chairs since every other seat was taken. For the cost of the experience, I expected at the BARE minimum a place to sit.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

hank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations. Our vessel is certified to hold up to 225 passengers, but we intentionally limit our ticket sales to 165 to ensure a more comfortable experience for our guests. While seating is first come, first serve, our crew is always happy to bring out additional chairs when possible. We truly appreciate your comments, and we’ll be sure to share this with our team to help improve the overall experience for future sailings.

Great cruise

Susan_F, Aug 2025
Fun and the crew was awesome! Great view of the city skyline from the ship. Guests even get chance to set the sails

Enjoy the view!

Tommie_M, Aug 2025
It was a great panoramic view of the city. It is not meant to give you historical or cultural insight as it not stated in the description. We loved it- a great view from any seat.

It was great to cool off...

Lisa_A, Aug 2025
It was great to cool off on the water. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Fun for all ages!

Take a ferry for a better boat ride

Jessica_L, Jul 2025
First off, it’s a 90min boat ride, not 2hrs. You spend the first 30min docked while the staff push buying food, alcoholic drinks & photos. The boat ride itself is nothing special. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear the experience didn’t meet your expectations. Just to clarify, as stated on both the ticket and during the booking process, there is a 30-minute boarding window before each sail. For example, an 11:30 AM sail includes boarding from 11:30 to 12:00 PM, with the ship departing at 12:00 PM and sailing until 1:30 PM. Our sailing experience is designed to be a relaxing and scenic way to view the city from the water aboard a historic tall ship. While food, drinks, and souvenir photos are available on board, participation is always optional.

Just OK

Diane_F, Jul 2025
The ship is interesting, but the experience itself is limited. You go a little ways out into the harbor, turn around, and go back.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you found the ship itself interesting, though we’re sorry to hear the overall experience didn’t meet your expectations. Our sail is designed to offer a relaxing and scenic journey through Toronto’s inner harbour and along the waterfront, providing guests with a unique view of the city from aboard a historic tall ship. While the route is limited by the harbour’s geography and marine regulations, many of our guests enjoy the peaceful pace and the chance to soak in the skyline and surrounding views.
