A really enjoyable day...

A really enjoyable day that was rather flexible and provided a good overview of Tokyo. We saw some places I don’t know we would have checked out on our own, on our first trip. Recommend doing this your first day or two in the city, as it’s also a good introduction to the subway and train system.

Tour guide met us at the hotel and got the tickets we needed. Mary gave us some interesting history along the way. We went to Asakusa, Meiji Jingu, and Harajuku. Weather was crazy hot and humid but the sights were so neat. Thankful for the a/c in the trains.

We chose not to visit the typical historical sites we might visit in another city. Instead the tour focused on the daily experience and culture of life in Tokyo. We saw active neighborhoods, markets and shopping districts. We gained a lot of perspective into Japanese attitudes and life. It was very informative and fascinating. Our tour guide was a Westerner who has lived here over twenty years, providing him with terrific insights.

Aki was our tour guide. He was a lot of fun and knowledgeable. We were also able to customize our tour, which was great! Outside of the typical things to see, he showed and shared things that a typical tourist would not know. We had interesting conversations about the differences between Western & Japanese cultures…A great experience!!

Our tour guide at 10 a.m. did not show. I contacted Viator (via What's App) and they connected me to the tour operator Seiji from See Jay Company. I communicated the problem and they offered us several solutions. We chose the same tour with private car, an upgrade from our original tour. Our guide Aki was wonderful. We visited the Godzilla head in Shinjuku. We toured the Meiji Shrine and ate lunch at Yoyogi Park (like the locals). We walked Takeshita Street and he encouraged us take cute anime pictures. Then we walked the streets of Omotesando to view the high end stores. He was willing to pick up our son who arrived during our tour at the HND airport, then dropped us off at the hotel. We had great conversations and learned a lot about the Japanese culture. Aki continued to stay in contact with us during our week in Japan. He helped us book a local sushi restaurant and offered to pick us up from the subway station. I emailed him when my husband fell and needed medical help. He immediately called me and found a orthopedic clinic close to our hotel. We had a wonderful experience with Aki.

Absolute best way to see the highlights of Tokyo

Aki is fabulous at knowing the hotspot for great pics. He took the extra steps in making sure I took part in planning my itinerary for the day. I layover in Tokyo for two days and this tour really cut the time down in my exploration and focused on the high level of interest. I had an amazing experience and since he’s a local, he knows where to go and the recommendations were very helpful in coming up with a custom itinerary. I highly recommend this tour if you’re short on time and want the highlights or hotspot for pictures. Places like the Emperial Palace, Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree and/or Japanese Garden. It was nice that he met me at my hotel at Haneda and was on time to start our tour. I had the opportunity to take the subway in Tokyo and without him, I don’t see how I would’ve made it through the subway system as it’s a little overwhelming if you don’t speak Japanese. To sum it up, spectacular tour and I highly recommend this tour. You will also get your steps in if you’re counting your steps since you will be doing a lot of walking. I have memorable pics and and saw amazing views. Awesome fun, fun, fun!
