I like archery so trying Japanese archery - Kyudo - was my bucket list item. For me, this was one of the best things I’ve done in Japan.
It really was cool to learn about Japanese style of archery stance which is distinctively different from other Asian archery I’ve tried in the past.
Once we learned the basics our group just had a lot of fun shooting.
Kyudo is something I actually would like to learn if I have an opportunity. I would definitely sign up for another Kyudo next time I’m in Japan.

It’s a fulfilling and fun experience with a master of the craft. I will probably do it again and try more experiences like it

This place is a scam. The meeting point is very inaccurate not even in the same part of Toyko. They did not send the meeting point until 4 hrs before which left no time to plan it with other plans for my trip. When I messaged them that I was coming they gave only 5 mins extra waiting before cutting all contact and still took my money. This might seem like a fun and exciting thing to add to your trip in Toyko however it isn't. There are plenty more Archery in toyko they doesn't play these games.

The instructor was amazing! He was an excellent teacher, taking the time to show us proper form and technique. Furthermore, he kept it fun with lighthearted commentary. Highly recommended.

It was a great experience. The teacher showed us how to wear the suit, accessories and the techniques

One of the best, unique, and coolest experiences I've ever done in Japan. I always wanted to do this during my previous trips but only found it now here on Viator. Great way to experience Japanese culture
Highly recommended for anyone visiting Japan! Great for solo, family, or groups.

Met on time at very convenient location. It's a light stroll to the venue where the instructor taught us how to dress. How to stand and how to shoot straight (well sometimes straightish). I was with a good group mixed. The instructor is very good. Knowledgeable as he has been practiing for 21 odd years. Funny as well and instructive. So I am now well versed in shooting a Japanese bow and can hit anything as long as it stays still. Is very big and gives me 10 attempts. I highly recommend this activity and is accessible to most ages. Give it a go you will enjoy it.

This experience was really fun. I've tried archery before, but there are obviously things that are different with kyudo and it was nice to experience and see people practicing near us. It was cold, but I would absolutely do this again.

Super fun experience! Western archery is completely different from this art so it was fun to experience.

Great insight into Japanese culture. Kyudo embraces Japanese virtues of grace, control and style. Our instructor was patient in helping us to learn the art, and took some great photos which captured our experience. Thank you.

Great authentic-feeling archery practice. The instructor spoke limited English, but managed to get his points across. We got to try out the traditional outfits for Japanese archery, which was fun, and we got of plenty of time and opportunity to practice the basics of Japanese archery style. The instructor also took pictures and shared them with us after, which was great since we weren't allowed to take pictures ourselves.

Awesome experience with a small group learning Kyudo.
It was surprisingly relaxing - almost meditative - with the time flying by before we knew it. In terms of ability, no prior experience is needed and strength is not a consideration at all - you learn all about the technique over the course of the day and how this provides you with the necessary power to shoot. Give it a go!

This was one of those few times where you pay a higher price for an event and you end up being so glad you took the risk not 100% knowing what the day entails. The Kyodo experience was one of the highlights of my trip in Japan. A no holds bar traditional archery exposure where it is fully hands on and if you do not get the technique right, like myself, you will have bruises to show! (ask for the arm guard haha). Our teacher was pleasant and motivated for all of us to really get the technique or rather dance of Kyodo down. This experience was most enjoyable as for most of your time you will be firing arrows focusing on the dance and motions of kyodo. It is a beautiful art form and I feel grateful that I was able to be a part of it.
The only downside is that photos and videos are not permitted inside the sports centre.

Oh wow this tour was so so incredible!!!! Our guide picked us up at meeting place and took our group to a special private Kyudo athletic facility and they had all these bow and arrows. We all dressed up and put the special glove on. We had an amazing teacher who has been doing Kyudo for 20 yrs. When did multiple rounds of shooting to arrows. This tour is was everything I hoped it would be!! Dont make a mistake and miss the opportunity to experience Kyudo in Tokyo. 😊

Great fun. Instructor terrific. Suggest that future classes meet at gym instead & limit to 5 people.

Beautiful Day Tours made sure we were well informed of the venue and what was needed. Jun Sensei was quite thorough with his explanation for the experience program. Thanks for a wonderful experience!!

Absolute amazing experience, which teaches you the proper way of traditional Japnese archery (Kyudo). It was done from beginner level to advanced level and allowed everyone to participate at all levels. Highly recommend it to anyone who wants to try something different.

Instructor was knowledgeable and very supportive on teaching us. We even had to dress up accordingly. Walk from the meetup to the venue was good to get to know everyone and ask questions. Facility was modern and refreshing (indoors, yet outdoors).
Harriet_W, Oct 2023
The meeting place was very easy to find. Once getting to the range we were given what I think is a uwagi to change into.
The sensi is very good at getting across the style of archery that Kyudo is. Which is very different to the standard one I did once upon a time in England. As well as providing any needed adjustments to enable your arrow to fly.
the experience is well paced as he slowly moves you away from targets.

This was a very fun experience even though i didnt completely understand what the instructor was saying. He speaks japanese with a mix of english words but you can figure it out with physical demonstrations and context clues. I wish i had this class in the US

Our guide got us up to speed quickly, explaining the physical technique and thoughts behind each step. This allowed a lot of opportunity to shoot and get real experience. Challenging and fun at the same time. Great experience I would definitely do again.

Extremely fun amazing experience. Teacher was extremely helpful and patient. Only problem I had was bow string caught my arm couple times causing bruises, which was fine after couple days.

I had so much fun. The instructor was educational, enthusiastic, and friendly. Would book again in the future!

My 17 year old son and I took this afternoon lesson - and it was incredibly fun and memorable.
- Sensei was kind, patient, and extremely skilled. His system for teaching breaks things down in easy steps. Before you know it, you're shooting these very safe arrows.
- Meeting location was easy to find.
- We wore the traditional dress which (despite my hesitation) really added to the authenticity of the experience.
The process: Meet Sensei at a designated spot and walk over the the local recreation center. There, you get ready and head up to the open air target area. Its covered, so you're ok if it rains.
I highly recommend.

We had a great time learning Kyudo. I will highly recommend it to any of my friends who travel to Japan in the future.
This was an authentic experience that went beyond what we were hoping for! It was a rich cultural exchange that showed you the real heart of Kyudo. The instructor was exceptional!
Eva_M, Aug 2020
Absolutely enjoyed this unique experience! Sensei was very passionate, explained everything thoroughly. The technique looks so majestic and easy, but in reality it is very complex and requires lot of focus. I was proud to hit the target a few times, although by the end of the 3 hour long training I was quite exhausted. Would certainly recommend it to those interested in Japanese martial arts, weapons, meditation or history.
biauhrinova, Feb 2020
It was a great experience :) Sensei was really nice and patient, and cheered us on! I wanted to try Kyudo for a long time and I was not disappointed. I would definitely recommend you to try it if you have some extra time, it is a nice change of pace compared to museums and shrines. We were a mixed group if Japanese and foreigners but it did not hinder the teacher in any way. We were maybe a bit too many, but then again, the organizer was really nice and let our friend join us last minute. Overall, time flew by quickly, we had a lot of fun. Thank you! <3

Wonderful experience with a very in depth and insightful lecture by teacher! Not only will you actually shoot a kyudo bow in the historical attire but you will learn the reason behind every step of the kyudo shooting process. It is a once in a lifetime experience that I highly recommend!

Great experience in learning something different in Tokyo. We received an email with instructions to meet at Shimo station a few minutes before noon, where we met the instructor and other participants.
By noon we walked to a gym complex nearby where they had a large room just for kyudo practice. The instructor helped the guys change into traditional clothes (and gave my wife a tablet with a video containing step-by-step instructions). Around 12:30 we were all ready for our lessons. We spent some time training with a prop similar to a sling, learning that kyudo is not just point and shoot, and that it is not similar to western archery either. There are details to kyudo which are very interesting to learn. Particularly, I found that the way the arrow and bow are held (first making an arch, then raising them above your head and finally lowering close to face to aim) makes it easier to pull the arrow.
We then spent almost 2 hours shooting targets, first from a close distance until from the other side of the room. There was enough time to have fun, practice, and take cool pictures. It is not rushed and the instructor even helps you taking photos. However, even after all this practice, only a couple of times someone managed to hit a target. It is difficult to aim correctly, but that doesn't take away the fun.
The instructor is energetic, but patient and polite, and would explain again what we didn't understand. As English is not my first language (and neither the instructor's), sometimes it was difficult to understand a few words, but we could get the meaning from the context.

You got the adress the day before. It is easy to find, so you don't have to worry about to come to the rigtht place. The instructer was kind and knew what he was talking about. So all learnt the basic. But I alså felt that it would take years to real understand it.
Very inspiring
