    A ‘must-do’ tour from Evora!

    Susan_V, Aug 2025
Picked up from the city centre, Favio took us on a tour, but it was as if he had picked up some friends to take them there, such was the friendly banter between us! We visited a traditional artisanal pottery village, which probably had not changed for over a century, and then on to Monsaraz…a charming little village perched on top of hill, with a 360 deg panoramic vista, narrow cobbled streets lined with white-washed houses, a church and even a bullring! The castle fortifications date back to the 1340’s when the Knights Templar arrived, give it a special place in history. To complete the tour, a wine tasting with Ervideira Wine provided an hilarious finale to our visit. A ‘must-do’ tour from Evora!

    Interesting And Relaxing Tour

With this being a private tour we were able to spend time where we were most interested. Our guide made sure to do his best on any request we made. He was knowledgeable and for us English speakers very understandable.

    Obidos without the tourists

The first stop is at a pottery workshop, where we saw 2 potters at work at the wheel, as well as the later painting and dipping it in the liquid glass glaze. Then we visited the hilltop village of Monsaraz. This is an amazing pittoresk village which was abandoned in the 18th century, but has been nicely renovated with some people living there again. There is a pretty well preserved fresco of the good and bad judge, and a small castle. Finally, there is a wine tasting in the village. The guide is very knowledgeable, but also allows a lot of freedom. Monsaraz is not at all touristic, and we were nearly alone in the village.

We loved this tour. Our tour guide took us to a pottery from where we bought the earthenwares for our home. He also explained us the history and landscape of the Evora during our tour. We were then taken to Monsaraz which is a quite little town with only 30 natives. We loved it because of the calmness in the air and will definitely be staying in Monsaraz in our next trip. We also did the wine tasting that was fun.

    Great Guiding..

Guide was very informative and also took us to a Cork Forest and Pottery Factory, which were welcome. We also had a wine tasting..
