This is a VERY strenuous hike! Absolutely loved it and enjoyed the day and our tour guide TJ (or maybe DJ) but it’s not for those who are not in good shape. I would highly recommend it for those with endurance!

The forest is very beautiful and the experience was a lot of fun. However our driver and tour guide, Carlos, drove like a maniac. He hit a guard rail and kept going. My girlfriend was getting car sick because of his driving. During the tour he barely talked and just didn’t seem like he wanted to be there.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the beauty of El Yunque National Forest and had fun during the experience.
That said, the concerns you’ve raised regarding the driving and overall guide engagement are taken very seriously. Safety is our top priority, and the type of driving you described does not reflect our standards or how our tours are expected to operate. We will be reviewing this situation internally and addressing it directly with the guide, including taking any necessary corrective or disciplinary action.
We also expect our guides to be engaging and informative throughout the experience, so your comments about the lack of interaction will be part of that review as well.
We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, as it helps us improve and ensure future guests receive the high-quality, safe, and enjoyable experience we are known for.

Super fun. Our Guide was so nice to everyone and had a lot to teach us. It was definitely harder to climb the rocks than I thought it would be. I don’t think it’s meant for an older generation.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re really glad you had a fun experience and that your guide made it both enjoyable and informative—that means a lot to us.
We also appreciate your honest feedback about the difficulty. The rocky terrain can definitely be more challenging than it looks, and we understand it may not be the best fit for everyone. We always aim to be as transparent as possible so guests can choose the experience that suits them best.
Thanks again for joining us—we hope to see you on another adventure!

Our hiking and water tour in El Yunque with Carlos was a beautiful and enjoyable experience overall. The rainforest is absolutely stunning—lush, vibrant, and full of breathtaking scenery. The natural water spots were refreshing and definitely a highlight of the day.
Carlos was kind, welcoming, and clearly familiar with the area, which made the tour feel relaxed and comfortable. The only minor challenge was a bit of a language barrier at times, which made it harder to fully connect and understand some of the details being shared.
Even so, we had a great time and truly appreciated the opportunity to explore El Yunque. With just a little smoother communication, this experience would easily be a 5-star tour!
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We’re delighted you enjoyed El Yunque’s scenery and the natural water spots, and that Carlos made your tour relaxed and welcoming. We apologize for the language hiccups — we’re working on improving our multilingual communication so guests can get the full experience and details.
We appreciate your feedback and hope to host you again soon for a perfect 5-star visit. If you’d like to share more about your experience, feel free to contact us directly.

Just wow! That is all I can say. We were a family ages 9-69 and our tour guide Michael was exceptional! First and foremost they are all about safety and gave us lifevests and helmets-we were the only group at the time with helmets (an did the same activities as the other groups). It was a great convenience being picked up/dropped off at the hotel. Michael educated us regarding the rainforest and area including the different fauna. He helped navigate the rocks and ensured everyone stayed together and was safe. He prepped us about what to expect, how to navigate the different activities. The rock slides were a blast! There was an extra cliff jump at that location for those who wanted. The "official" cliff jump site had 3 different heights ~20ft, ~15ft and ~5ft. There was also a rope swing at a different site. There are a few private changing stalls and washrooms for afterwards. Snacks and water provided after the tour was over for the way back. It was a ton of fun and a wonderful opportunity! Highly recommend!
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Wow — thank you for such an incredible and detailed review! We’re absolutely thrilled to hear that your entire family, from ages 9 to 69, had such a memorable adventure.
Michael will be so happy to know his dedication, knowledge, and focus on safety made such a strong impression. Keeping everyone together, informed, and confident while still having an amazing time is exactly what we strive for. We’re especially glad you appreciated the helmets and life vests — safety is never optional for us, even when others choose differently.
It’s great to hear you enjoyed the rock slides, cliff jumps (with options for everyone!), rope swing, and the added comforts like hotel transportation, changing areas, and post-tour snacks and water. We love that you highlighted how well-prepared and well-explained everything felt — that’s the experience we aim to deliver every single time.
Thank you for trusting us with such a special family outing and for the high recommendation. We’d love to welcome you back for another adventure anytime! 🌿💦
ckudder, Feb 2026
If you choose not to do the waterfalls, water slide or the swinging rope, you are left behind and cannot do anything until the rest of the tour returns. This was not fully explained beforehand.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We’d like to respectfully clarify a few key points for accuracy and fairness.
The waterfalls, natural waterslide, and rope swing are the main highlights of this rainforest adventure, and they all take place within the same controlled area of the trail. For safety and liability reasons, we cannot allow guests to roam the rainforest independently or separate from the group without guided supervision. This is standard practice in El Yunque National Forest, where terrain, water levels, and conditions can change rapidly.
Participation in the water activities is always optional, and choosing not to participate is entirely a personal decision—which we fully respect. However, that choice does not change the structure of the tour or the safety protocols in place. Remaining in a designated safe area while the rest of the group completes the activities is necessary to ensure everyone’s well-being.
We believe it’s important to note that nothing was taken away from the experience due to our operations or staff performance, and it’s unfortunate that a decision made by personal preference resulted in a negative rating. With full participation, this experience often earns five-star feedback for its adventure, organization, and safety standards.
We appreciate the feedback and will continue improving how we communicate tour expectations, while always prioritizing guest safety above all else.

Tour marketed as ‘small group’ with no stated minimum. After booking and arriving in San Juan, the local operator handed me off to another tour operator that texted me the new meeting logistics. The new meeting time was at 6:20 am and a 15 minute walk from the hotel. I specifically booked this small group tour for the 8 am pickup time and the hotel pickup. Viator sent multiple automated messages about the original logistics and the new tour operator sent messages about the different pickup times. When I called San Juan Tours, the representative informed me that they would not run the tour with one guide and one guest; turns out they had a group of four cancel on short notice. Instead of cancelling my tour, they handed me over to another group called Tours Hacker. The new logistics were not acceptable and I declined to participate. The original tour group refused to refund me the cost of the tour despite violating Viator policy. I was not offered a tour later in the day or another tour.
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’d like to respectfully clarify a few important points for accuracy and transparency for future travelers.
Our El Yunque tours are scheduled to arrive at the rainforest by 8:00 a.m., which requires hotel pickups to begin approximately 1 to 1.5 hours in advance, depending on location and the number of stops. This information is clearly stated in our tour description, including the note that pickup times may start earlier than usual when there are multiple pickup locations—which was the case on this date. You were advised of this adjustment in advance.
At no point were you “handed off” to another company. Your reservation remained active and was not canceled, specifically because we wanted to give you the opportunity to still enjoy the experience you booked. We made every effort to accommodate you despite last-minute changes caused by other guests canceling.
We understand that early pickups aren’t ideal for everyone, but pickup logistics, timing windows, and policies are disclosed prior to booking, and it is the guest’s responsibility to review those details. Declining to participate due to logistics that were properly communicated does not qualify as a tour cancellation or a violation of platform policy.
We regret that you chose not to attend, as the experience was still available to you, but the outcome was ultimately the result of declining the confirmed pickup arrangements rather than a failure to operate the tour as described.
We appreciate your feedback and wish you the best in your future travels.

The hike is no joke, wear tennis shoes or water shoes, it’s worth it once you get there, we did the water slide and cliff jump
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Thank you so much for joining us and for the helpful tip for future guests! The hike definitely has some real adventure to it — good footwear makes a big difference — and we’re glad to hear it was worth it once you reached the waterfall. We’re happy you enjoyed the natural waterslide and cliff jump, and hope we get to welcome you back for another visit!

Response from Host, Dec 2025
Thank you! 🌿✨
We’re so glad you embraced the challenge and enjoyed this brand-new adventure. It’s always exciting to try something completely different, and we’re thrilled it was a fantastic experience for you!
Janelle_G, Nov 2025
Make sure you get a guide that dies nor walk away. Wear tennis shoes or water shoes. It is very slippery. Rock climbing. BIG step case. It is fun but do not go if you are not in shape.
Response from Host, Nov 2025
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback! We’re glad to hear you had fun out there — El Yunque is definitely an adventure. 🌿
We always encourage guests to wear secure footwear and be prepared for slippery terrain, rock steps, and a bit of climbing, which is why all of this is clearly detailed in the tour description before booking. The rainforest is naturally rugged (that’s part of the thrill!), and sticking close to your guide is the best way to enjoy it safely.
We appreciate your tips for future guests, and we’re happy the experience still brought you some excitement. With the right prep, this absolutely could’ve been a 5-star day — so we hope we get the chance to show you that next time! 🌟
Erna_F, Oct 2025
This is more of a small canyoning tour than a hike. You have a small window of a path and then you are off trail going up and over large boulders and tree roots. Be prepared. Its definitely a challenge but exhilarating when you get to the slide and go down. Carlos was a fine guide just wish he was a bit more interactive
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience!
It's definitely a challenge, but we're thrilled to hear you found it exhilarating, especially the natural slide at the end!
We're also grateful for your feedback on the guiding experience. Carlos is a valued member of our team, and we’ll be sure to share your thoughts with him as we’re always working to improve the guest experience.
Thanks again for joining us—we hope to welcome you on another adventure soon!

The hike is pretty tough, but the reward is worth it. Our guide, Orlando, literally held my hand in the rough parts. The waterfall area was great. The kids loved going up the mountain and doing the cliff diving. Grandma had fun hanging back in the swimming hole. Great fun for everyone.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
This is exactly what we love to hear — a true multigenerational adventure! 💚 Orlando is a gem, and we’re so happy he helped guide you through the tough parts (literally!). That waterfall reward makes every muddy step worth it, right? 😄
We’re thrilled your whole family — from the little cliff-jumpers to Grandma soaking it all in — had a blast. Thanks for choosing us to be part of your rainforest memories! 🌿💦 Come back anytime for round two!
Spencer_F, Jun 2025
Orlando was a pleasure, so helpful and knowledgeable. He was great with the kids and made sure to our safety. The tour was beautiful and very memorable couldn't recommend enough.
Response from Host, Jun 2025

We’re thrilled the tour left such a beautiful impression on you. Thank you for recommending us, and we hope to welcome you and your family back for another adventure soon! 💚🇵🇷
Tonicia_D, Jun 2025
IT WAS AMAZING! Our travel guide Lyah was very knowledgeable and just great as in making sure we stayed together! Couldn’t ask for a better guide! The only thing but is our fault is staying up the night before and getting ready to hike in the rainforest early lol! Going early was great because other tours were coming in numbers as we were leaving and had plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the day!
Response from Host, Jun 2025
We absolutely love this energy! 😄 Thank you for sharing your experience — and shoutout to Lyah for being the rockstar guide she always is! She's the kind of guide who makes you feel like you're hiking with a friend who also happens to know everything about the rainforest 🌿💧
And yes, the early start is clutch! Beating the crowds and having the rest of the day to relax? Chef’s kiss. We hope you got a good nap afterward — you earned it! 😄 Come back soon for more Puerto Rican adventures! 🇵🇷✨
Emilyy_O, Jun 2025
It is definitely 100% recommended. It was about 4 hours or so.. our tour guide was very nice and showed us all the spots to go to, very good communication and made me & my boyfriend feel so welcomed, safety was his #1 priority for us and I will be doing it again in the future. Thank you so much for the hospitality
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're truly happy to hear that you and your boyfriend had such a great experience. Be prepared to climb and get wet . You will be walking through streams even waist high. Can jump off cliffs but do not have to.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Absolutely! This tour is all about embracing adventure—so yes, expect to get wet and do a little climbing! 💦🧗♂️ Walking through streams (sometimes waist-deep!) is part of the fun, and while the cliff jumps are totally optional, they’re there for the thrill-seekers. We always make sure everyone feels comfortable, safe, and free to enjoy at their own pace.
Thanks for the heads up for future guests—glad you came ready for it!

Hope to see you again for another adventure soon! 🌿🥾🇵🇷

Fantastic trip to the rainforest. Went with my 16 year old daughter. Short hike to the waterfall area then another climb to the top. Many of our group stayed at the bottom. I would recommend going up and doing the slide - well worth it.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We're thrilled to hear you and your daughter had a fantastic time exploring the rainforest. That climb to the top can be a bit of a challenge, but it’s awesome that you went for it—and did the slide too! It really is worth it.
