Fantastic experience. You WILL be fully immersed in the water and the water is on the cool side. There is a lot of scrambling and climbing; you need high quality water shoes. I actually wore socks with mine which was surprisingly helpful. You should be at least moderately fit and good balance is helpful. Be prepared for some steep climbs.

We loved this excursion and would totally recommend it! Swimming through the caves was lots of fun, and the "pool" area of Charco Azul is just beautiful.

    Cave Climbing and Swimming

    Melissa_O, Jan 2026
Wesley was an amazing guide. He was very patient with my fear of heights at the 1st jump point. Even though I still couldn't bring myself to jump, there was an alternate climb around that I took. I felt safe because he was helpful and attentive through the whole exploration. Highly recommend! I highly recommend wearing old sneakers and socks to protect your feet since it involves both swimming and rocky terrain, instead of water shoes.

Do the caves…with a different charter

    Maggie_F, Jan 2026
Our group of 8 booked this tour via Viator. This review is NOT about the caves, which on their own were lovely. This is about the tour operator via Viator. They were scheduled to pick us up from our hotel at noon. That turned into 12:20, 12:40… excuses, excuses (all different kinds including blaming cruise passengers) and eventual 1:30 pm. We had waited in the lobby 1.5 hours and thought we were good to go. Nope, had to go pick up those cruise passengers the driver blamed. They had been waiting on a street corner in the heat even longer! Then we went all the way to Durado to get a family of five, who’d been waiting in front of a convience store in the heat since 11:30 am. It was now 2:30. We finally got there, while our driver made excuses and texted and drove the whole time. We had to wait around while he parked the van when we got there and then handed out life jackets - not enough for everyone! One bathroom at the facility with long lines. We started the tour which he and another guy did. The driver told me the other guy was an expert in the area — while that guy told me he hadn’t been there since he was 10 years old! Both led us over the rocks and vines with little help or instruction and got us to the water. There was some guidance through the water but not enough. The whole time the main guy said he would give us the GoPro photos he was taking for free to make up for the bus wait time. Keep that in mind. He gave a 2-second speech about cave drawing he knew nothing about and didn’t relay any history. Then we went into a cold, dark cave — and their flashlights died! Can’t make this up. They had given out small headlamps which were dim and there were also not enough of those for anyone. So the cave was … dark. lol. I didn’t even mind that, but the negligence was so major. On the way out, they gave zero guidance in those cold, dark caves, so my daughter and I hit rocks, banged limbs and nearly fell a number of times. Our one friend wore crocs, deemed acceptable bc they are closed toed, and he wound up slipping and sliding in a dangerous way. Crocs should not be allowed on this trek, only real water or hiking shoes. We got back to the hotel around 6:30 - good thing we didn’t have dinner reservations! Now, to those photos. I heard nothing from Monday until Thursday when I messaged the guy via the WhatsApp number he used when he kept messaging about the delayed pick up time. He said his boss would send. I replied when? No reply. The boss guy finally messaged me Friday night asking for an email address for them (no name, no nothing, just a random WhatsApp number saying he needed an email for GoPro photos). By Saturday, now Sunday, still nothing. I replied asking if they were sent, and got no reply. This is on Viator, who clearly did not vet this provider or at least some of the people they hire. Do your due diligence and be careful going the 3rd party route. We regret that we did.

    Experienced kids could do it

    Megan_K, Jan 2026
We took our kids (6)(10) and it was definitely challenging and cold water for them but they are experienced with hiking and climbing and did great! This was our favorite thing we did while here, holy moly, it was gorgeous!

    Amazing experience!

    Melanie_K, Dec 2025
Isail was a great guide and we had a lot of fun! He was very patient with us as my 14 year old wasn't as into the idea of this tour but by the end, she jumped off the cliff! The nature was gorgeous and it was super cool how we got to climb through caves and a waterfall. Definitely bring water shoes and a change of clothes and towel. Highly recommend!

    Chaco Azul cave adventure

    ChrisJohnson_S, Dec 2025
This was an amazing tour. If you’re thinking about this tour, I’d say it’s moderate level. Some hills to hike, but the guides stayed well within the group’s ability. We jumped 6’ down into a pool to begin our adventure. Swam through caves, climbed around some rocks and under a waterfall. By far the best thing we did here. Life jackets were provided. Men, I was comfortable in swim trunks and no shirt. Ladies, I’d say a swim suit with additional shorts on. You will be sliding around on some mildly rough surfaces. If you bring camera, put in dry bag or waterproof case. Travel light. Your backpack will be left at the van and not accessible till end of tour. We had water, towels and snacks in our pack. TIP YOUR GUIDES. Have fun!

    Awesome!

Braillam really went the extra mile every step to make us feel welcome, safe, and ensure everyone was having a great time! The caves and waterfalls are amazing and we look forward to coming again with Exploradise and trying a new tour! Thanks Braillam!

It was a fun experience and a good experience! I am great full that i actually took this tour. People should def book and definitely know to take shoes that they don't mind messing up. The hiking the jumping into the river to see the caves is the best experience.

Exhilarating and beautiful, but challenging and need to be fit to climb up slippery rocks and over logs. Wesley was great guide, very calm, chill and encouraging.

    Everything about the tour...

    Vincent_H, Sep 2025
Everything about the tour was amazing. Bralliam is a cool dude, he’s knowledgeable about the history of the caves as well as super helpful and patient. The caves were awesome. We did a couple of excursions during our stay but this one was our favorite.

Take this tour! It was the best tour we've ever been on.

    Martin_A, Jul 2025
It was more strenuous than I expected, but if you're in decent shape and can walk in a rocky river, I think you should be able to do it. It was SO worth the effort. So much beauty and fun. The guides are fantastic and the food was great.

    Amazing excursion!

    Huan_N, Jun 2025
This tour was very fun, you get to swim in a cave and river. The water was pristine, refreshing and very clean. Our tour guide, Juliel was awesome. He gave us a great tour, knew the areas inside out, and he was very patient and nice. We highly recommend this tour to everyone for a great fun, and adventurous time on this beautiful island.

    Our tour guide Juan was...

    Gabrielle_b, Apr 2025
Our tour guide Juan was very informative about the caves and the surrounding areas. Gave us a separate little tour of San Juan on the way to the caves. Was very nice and patient as we arrived fifteen mins late due to traffic. Even went with us to a local eatery place after the tour and educated us more about the history of the caves and the area.

    Great Guide & Tour !!!

    Michael_G, Apr 2025
This was an incredible experience and our guide was kind and mindful throughout the entire journey. My family and I will enjoy the memories forever.

    Soul Refreshing

    Josette_J, Mar 2025
It was challenging but worth every bit of exertion. Our guide Juan was very helpful and literally guided our every step to help us successfully navigate the terrain. Step into the real Puerto Rico on this tour. It was the best thing I did my entire trip!

Book it! You won’t regret it!

    Siobhan_L, Feb 2025
We had an unforgettable experience with our tour guide Juan. The drive was nice, and our guide provided facts and details about the journey, famous sites and outer areas of San Juan. The hike to the river was not too difficult and I’m in no way in shape. I was able to hike it and our guide Juan was very helpful and attentive to make sure we hiked at a good pace for me and my son (11yo). The river was incredibly beautiful. The water was refreshing and not too cold. I was not planning to cliff jump but once I was up there, I knew I had to try. Just do it! Our guide was encouraging and gave us each the time and attempts we needed before we were comfortable jumping. The limestone caves were like nothing I could imagine. It was like another world in there. I highly recommend this tour and our guide Juan.

    Once in a lifetime experience

Book it! An awesome experience that included some breathtaking views, the perfect amount of physical challenges and a personalized adventure. Bralliam is everything you would want in a tour guide. He’s knowledgeable, provided great instructions, had a positive attitude and has an admirable love for Puerto Rico.

    Fun family adventure

    Kristyn_K, Jan 2025
Our family had the best day on this tour! We learned about the rich history of Puerto Rico and with each location, our guide pointed out interesting plants, animals, and their habitats. Super knowledgeable and friendly. He explained each section of the trek to ensure everyone was safe. The adventure was challenging and fun - waterfalls, caves, and a cliff jump. We hope to come back soon!

    Do the jump!!

    Liza_C, Sep 2024
We had the best!!! time together. I booked this for me, my partner and my 13y old brother. After the whole vaccination they still say it was the best thing we did. You will explore underwater caves, swim and climb a lot, so be prepared physically. It’s not easy but not hard either. You will also cliff jump at the end, so prepare yourself mentally ;)) Some notes: you will get completely wet, including your shoes, so bring dry clothes and shoes. If you can, buy water shoes. We were wearing sneakers or hiking shoes and where fine too :)

Rainforest Caves and Hidden Waterfall: Potential for Greatness, but Needs Improvement

    Amy_S, Aug 2024
Our guide, Juan, was the standout of this excursion. His knowledge of the local flora and fauna, as well as the cave formations, was impressive. His friendly demeanor and excellent communication, even when running late, made him a pleasure to spend the day with. Unfortunately, the overall experience was marred by a few significant issues. The excursion description was misleading about the location, leading to a much longer travel time than expected. The van's condition raised safety concerns, especially with children. Moreover, the advertised "hidden" waterfall was far from secluded, and the surrounding area was littered with trash. While the cave exploration and cliff jumping were undoubtedly thrilling, the overall value for the price paid is questionable. The promised adventure felt somewhat limited, with more emphasis on the cliff jumping than the caves, and waterfalls. Recommendations: Improve accuracy of location details, ensure vehicle safety, address cleanliness issues, expand cave exploration and waterfall components.

Juan Figueroa is amazing!! We are so great full with Mr Figueroa he was helpful, patient, we really have a wonderful experience. Highly recommended unforgettable experience. Thank you!

Loved the caves and hidden waterfalls, don't miss this!

    Susan_C, Jul 2024
The best excursion ever! Guides were nice, knowledgeable and put our safety first. Five stars, would say this is a must do! Wear shoes you can tie tightly, not water shoes.

    Juan is the best!

    Stephanie_F, Jun 2024
There were 6 of us - mom, dad, and 4 adult kids (ages 20-26). Juan picked us up in San Juan and drove us up into the mountains; he really knew the roads well! We got our life jackets on and then began the hike into the rainforest. We had our first cliff jump of 10 feet and then swam under a waterfall and into a cave. We got to experience the river, the caves, more jumps, and some links to Taino culture shared with us during the experience. Juan really knew the area and kept us safe on the experience - he was great!

    Best tour guide ever!

    Maresa_S, Jun 2024
The cliff jumping was terrifying but awesome. However, thr best part of the experience was definitely the tour guide. He elevated the entire experience. Dope personality and very informative throughout. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to experience Puerto Rico minus all of the crowds.
