Enjoy an unforgettable angling trip on Iceland’s icy waters on a sea-fishing trip from Reykjavik. Sail into Faxaflói Bay on a comfortable fishing boat then, with instructions from the crew, set up the supplied fishing rods and bait, and wait for a bite. If you’re lucky, catch species such as cod, halibut, and haddock, and choose to either grill the catch on board or take back to your accommodation.

What To Expect

Meet the friendly captain and crew on your fishing boat, and don some warm coveralls to keep you cozy. Then, enjoy the views as your boat heads out into the icy waters of Reykjavik’s Faxaflói Bay.

Feel the thrill as you cut through the waves, and set about using the supplied angling equipment. As well as experienced anglers, this trip is ideal for first-timers, so if you’ve never been sea fishing, don’t worry — the crew will guide you through the essentials. All the necessary items, including fishing rods and bait, are provided on board.

Once you’re ready, drop your line and enjoy an exciting angling session. Species you may catch include cod, haddock, pollock, halibut and rockfish.

If you’re fishing in summer (May to August), your boat will pass the islands of Akurey and Lundey during your trip. Both islands are famous for their seabirds and summertime puffin colonies, so keep your eyes peeled for these colorful birds nesting on the shores.

After your fishing session, we can either prepare your catch for you to take back to your hotel/apartment to be cooked, or grill the catch on board.

Awesome first fishing experience in Iceland. Both my wife and I caught a lot of nice cod and thoroughly enjoyed the trip. The mates, Otsgir (may have misspelled his name) and Samuel were both great and super friendly and helpful. They worked hard to make sure everyone caught fish, especially the kids, and filleted and cooked up the fish and some potatoes for everyone to eat on the trip back in. If I go back to Iceland, I will definitely fish with them again!

Great fun fishing. Everyone on the boat caught lots of fish and then we enjoyed a nice meal afterwards. Can’t get any fresher than that. Captain and mates were amazing. What a great time.

Best excursion of our cruise!

I was in a group of 5 members of my family. The trip was a small group (maybe 20?) which was nice and the crew was spectacular! The captain moved the boat a couple times to ensure we were in a good fishing spot. Everyone caught fish and they cooked up a nice meal of fresh fish to enjoy while still on the boat. I highly, highly recommend this trip!

Fantastic sea fishing trip! Caught many Cod and haddock. All rods and tackle were set up and the crew were extremely helpful and friendly. Really let you just enjoy fishing and the environment. And they cooked up the fish immediately, we feasted like kings! Many thanks to the crew Samual, Livia, and Patrick. Unfortunately, this charter didn’t live up to our expectations. Out of 17 people, I believe only two caught fish. The crew was helpful if you lost a lure or landed a fish, but there was very little guidance or effort to help people actually catch fish. Everyone had to fish on right side of boat which made it very cramped. The boat ride itself was beautiful, but the anglers weren’t very personable or engaging, which made the experience feel disappointing. Overall, it wasn’t worth the price we paid but we tried it.

The number of fish caught can vary from trip to trip, as sea angling is highly dependent on natural conditions and fish activity on the day. Fortunately, it is not common for catches to be as limited as you experienced, but it can occasionally happen. Regarding the fishing positions, guests fish from the same side of the vessel to help prevent lines from crossing and tangling, ensuring a safer and smoother experience for everyone on board, especially when the boat is moving. Rough weather equals delicious fish

The crew is very friendly, and knowledgeable about the local marine wildlife. The sea state that day was category 4, with waves up to 8 feet. A bit rough with the boat positioned broadside to the waves, with a lot of people struggling to keep their footing. We were given short , deep sea fishing rods, with double eel imitation lures. We dropped them straight down to the bottom and did some simple lifting and jigging of the lures. A simple but effective technique. We caught some cod and pollock, and the crew did a great job grilling them with some potatoes. other than the rough seas, it was an enjoyable day and we had a lot of fun.

This is a must do in Reykjavik if you love fishing. From the time we arrived at the fishing spot, the fish just kept coming... cod, haddock, pollack! So many fish!!! The team is kind, helpful and just fun to be with. We even saw whales!!! Captain made sure we got close to see them. Then, we got to eat the fish and it was delicious! I definitely recommend this excursion. It was the most fun!

Capt(The Bishop) and crew Victoria and Samuel made this trip so much fun. We caught tons of Atlantic Cod. My 12 yr old grandson caught a 10 lb Cod and was in heaven. As soon as we started to dock, he asked if we could book another trip. Well worth it.

We caught so many fish! The captain and crew were helpful and friendly, and prepared and cooked the fish we caught, which was delicious. We were able to see whales swimming right next to the boat on the way home. One of the best fishing experiences our family has ever had! (Kids aged 10 and 13)

Fishing has it's ups and downs, let's just say it was 100% up today. My family and I caught over 70 cod within 2 hours, which they oooked afew on the boat. Just overall great time with a great team.

Unreal Deep Sea Fishing

Wow!!! Unreal experience!!! One of the best excursions I have done in Iceland! I caught 9 good size Cods and my fishing neighbor caught 12 Cods and a few monsters! Every single person caught at least one Cod! On the way back we had a buffet of potatoes and Cod! Everyone was full and there were still left overs!! Captain Stefan could be one of the best captains in the city! Found the sweet spots! Vera was super nice, fun and knowledgeable!! Kiljan was a great teacher and deck hand!! They all help you bring in the fish and help us with crossed and tangled lines. Thank you again for the great experience!!!!

Great trip out into the ocean. A few of the other folks who booked the trip got their lines caught on the bottom of the ocean. The crew works hard ensuring with whatever they had on board that folks could still fish. Lots was caught and the fish cooked on board was delicious. Great experience and something different! We were drifting over a rocky bottom, as that is where the cod were. Caught one then next drift, got snagged up and lost my weight. We were using 5oz to get down to the bottom. Asked for another weight and they didn’t have any. This was literally after 15 minutes of fishing They took a reel handle and tied it to my line but it wasn’t nearly enough to get me down with the current. Also a lot of the rods had broken tips or missing the last eyelet. Once I complained and a few other folks got hung up and lost weights, the captain let the drift take us off the rocky bottom where the fish were holding so no one even had a hit after that.
