This is an excellent private tour of the Douro Valley. The description is accurate it is the off the beaten path tour. My wife and I were staying in Porto and got picked up from our hotel and driven about 90 minutes in to the Douro valley. We had 3 main stops during the day and a number of short ones for incredible views . Our first main stop was a small town to sample Moscatel, and two wineries. One small family winery and one medium size winery. The lunch at the first winery was incredible and the view of the Douro was spectacular. Also our tour guide was friendly, knowledgeable and an excellent driver on very challenging roads. We would definitely recommend and do again.

The Guide Rui was excellent and very knowledgable. The cost was too high for the experience but he did a wonderful job. We visited 2 wineries (tastings were included) and had lunch at one of the wineries that was a bit large and crowded (lunch was not included) . Would have like to have had some flexibility in the day to see some other smaller wineries and would have appreciated a possible inclusion of the boat tour. Rui did a great job in including some stops for us to see the view of the beautiful Douro valley.

You reserved a tour through Viator that does not include any river cruise or lunch (please verify inclusions and exclusions). You could have asked the guide to add it to the tour but you never mentioned that. Also, in September, we cannot guarantee you have just few people at the wineries we visit, since it is high season during the grape harvest. However, you had a private tasting at the winery you refer.
If your focus was wine, you should have chosen our Douro Wine Lovers tour, for people that want to go to 3 wineries or more.
We regret we did not accomplish your expectations.
Next time, we expect you reserve directly with us for us to adapt to your interests.

I can not recommend this tour enough. It's a family owned company (I corresponded with Sara when booking, but her son João led the tour), and João was a fantastic driver and tour guide.
He is extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and did a great job answering all our questions and giving us insight into life in the Douro valley, but he also wasn't one of those tour guides who feels the need to fill any lull in the conversation with chatter. =) My family and I really enjoyed his expertise and company, and had a blast at the wineries he took us to for some delicious wine, olives, almonds, jams and a FANTASTIC lunch (not included in the price).
One of the best tours I've ever been on.

We had an AWESOME day with Joao as our host. He made the day both fun and interesting while treating us like old friends! We saw so many things and learned so much that to list everything would take too long and would ruin the surprise of others who will take the tour. It was a great day! Our guide, Carlos, is quite knowledgeable about Portugal history and the Douro Valley. He took us to interesting and nice spots, marvelous views, 3 wineries for wine tasting - all tastings were very private and able to include wines of our interest. Lunch was also very tasty. What an incredible day! Rui was knowledgeable, so sweet and kind and fun to be with. He educated us about the area and showed us so many special places. The wine tours were spectacular! Both the small winery and the medium size one had outstanding wines to taste. The first winery was amazing. We spent time learning about the wine making process and even got to climb into an empty barrel! The second winery was so beautiful with a delicious lunch set in a wonderful atmosphere. We even got to witness a stunning wedding taking place at the winery. I cannot say enough about this tour. It is worth every penny. Rui was an incredible guide - and ended our day with fresh picked cherries he bought for us from a stand! Do not hesitate to book this tour!

This tour was well worth every penny and minute spent. We highly recommend booking a tour with this family-owned tour company and asking for Joao. Our guide , Joao, speaks perfect English and is very knowledgeable about wines, vineyards, Portugal topography, Portugal history and, of course, culture. He paced the day well and, since our tour was focused on wine country, he explained the different regions, grapes,
olives, co-planting, and answered all our random questions - even those not about Douro and the wine country. We were picked up at our hotel in Porto and learned much during our 90 minute drive to our first stop - a family-owned and run winery in the Douro region. We spent some time tasting various wines paired with 2 different olive oils (and bread), 2 different olive pastes, 3 different homemade jams and home made portugués bread. Following this visit,
chatting with the owner and taking pics, we strolled through a small quaint town where we enjoyed an espresso before driving down the windy roads into the valley and along the banks of the Douro river (also stopping for pics of the incredible views). We enjoyed a romantic lunch overlooking a vineyard, which was followed by a tour of the wine cellar and wine (and port) tasting. The drive was absolutely beautiful as was the day. Your visit to Porto would not be complete without a visit to this region and We highly recommend visiting the Douro region with Joao and Joao’s family owned tour company.

What a great way to see the Douro Valley! This car tour takes you well up the river to where the landscape is eye-popping and the wines are terrific. Highlights were (1) tasting at our own private table set up at the edge of the vineyard at a small family winery, (2) a cafe in a small village to taste Medeiros wine, (3) lunch at a cute little restaurant (“My husband made this wine!” said our server), (4) private tasting at a high-end winery, and (5) so many scenic stops for photos. Great marks for Rui’s informative commentary throughout. This tour provided good value for the money.

Viator almost ruined our entire vacation. I booked a trip for 7 people and paid $1400. I let the tour coordinator know that we were coming but we had some back and forth about exact time and location. When I showed up at the closest hotel that they could pick us up (in a bad neighborhood and the hotel abandoned), I found out that they canceled the trip and that the tour guide had taken another group out. They have still refused to give me my money back. Viator is an large company aggregator and they do not back up the customer when their tour operators are dishonest. Also, after this happened, my email got hacked and I started to get all kinds of crazy spam to my email and phone. I don't think this was a coincidence. My advice is to find tours NOT associated with Viator.

On the day of the tour, you decided to change the pick-up location combined before to a hotel chosen by you in Porto and you didn’t inform us. We waited a long time for you at the highway stop agreed, since you were driving from Viana do Castelo and you never showed up. Only after a long time, you called us. At that time, only a half day tour was possible or move the tour to another day but you refused. On these cases, Viator analyses all the documents and messages exchanged and decides what to do. Viator considered we were right and, inclusively, made our best for you that day. We also don't have the power to hack emails, ...
We regret you didn't have a good experience and are willing to receive you again and have the pleasure to guide you to Douro Valley.

Between encountering a 10k and a cycling race in the same day, John was flexible, showed ingenuity and kept his sense of humor. Knowledgeable about all things Porto-Douro we’d recommend John to everyone! We got to talk with an actual wine maker at a small vineyard and in the process learned tons about how wine is produced in the valley. The scenery was amazing. You won’t be disappointed!

Such a perfect day. Great guide and tour layout. Small charming producer in the morning, then large scale excellent producer in the afternoon.
Just a note: lunch is excellent but there was no indication of what to expect. It was in a very fine dining restaurant. We spent 20-30 euros per person. It was worth the price for excellent food. Just a heads up.

We had an amazing time on the Duoro tour. A family business, Sara, Juou, and their son provide a great tour.. We were so impressed that we booked a food tour with them for the next day.. While we were still seeing the Duoro Valley.
You will have a scenic drive to the Duoro Valley, stop at several vineyards, take a river cruise, and have a memorable lunch.
If you want to get away and see small production vineyards with accommodating and lovely guides, take this tour. You might also find a new winery you like. We just ordered another case from one of the ones we visited.

Absolutely a wonderful day with a very professional driver/guide. He was extremely informative and and very kind. We learned a great deal about the region and saw so much. The wine tour/tasting and lunch were top notch. The river cruise was a nice afternoon activity. I would recommend this tour to anyone that wants to experience this region in a day ( without staying in the Duoro region) as we were driven back to Porto at the end of the day.

Overall, we enjoyed the excursion but not necessarily feeling like we got the value for the cost of the excursion as compared to other available market options. Essentially, we had a private car service for the day and a driver who was very friendly and knowledgeable that provided us some good back-ground information during a few stops.
