You must have patience with this experience. It is an authentic lesson in Kintsugi using proper materials and learning the history of the craft. Your work must be shipped to you because the lacquer under the gold takes time to dry. Josuke is an artist and craftsman who takes his craft seriously, so if you want a real experience that is well worth the price, this is the workshop for you. He does a lot of preparation both before and after your experience. The workshop is absolutely wonderful with a rich history of its own, and it is a joy to see. I highly recommend this workshop for those of you who are they interested in truly learning about a craft and can wait for your work to be shipped to you. I'm excited for the day it arrives to my home - bringing a reminder of this beautiful experience in Osaka. Note: the piece you repair here can be used for food, and others in quickie workshops will not be food safe. There's no super glue here!

Thank you very much for your thoughtful and detailed review.
We are truly grateful that you appreciated the authentic nature of the Kintsugi process, including the time, patience, and care it requires. It means a great deal to us that you valued not only the technique, but also the history and philosophy behind the craft.
We are also glad that you noticed the preparation involved and the importance of using proper materials such as natural urushi lacquer. Your understanding of the difference from simplified methods is deeply appreciated.
We hope your finished piece arrives safely and brings back fond memories of your time in Osaka.
Thank you again for your kind recommendation. We would be honored to welcome you again in the future.
Warm regards,
Jo / ZENKEI

Jo is an excellent, patient teacher who explained the entire kintsugi process to me. The workshop was well planned out, and the relaxed atmosphere embodied the ethos of the Japanese way of life.
I also learned how to make matcha the authentic way (it’s all about the froth on top!!) which was pretty cool.
I highly recommend this.

This was worth every minute, so very interesting and taught by a master in the art of Kintsugi, who was so very polite and friendly.
The history about the art form was explained with slides and questions and open discussion encouraged. Held in a traditional studio that was over 100 years old with a gallery up stairs and finished with a lovely matcha tea lesson at the end of the workshop-tasted wonderful. Highly, highly recommend.

This was soooo cool! Highly recommend!! Learning and teaching the kids traditional craftsmanship was everything. JoJo was so great explaining the process and helping us. The end product is so beautiful and is way better than any trinket we could bring home from our travels. Highly recommend!!! If you are in Osaka and will be for a few days, do this activity first if you want to be able to bring it home with you without shipping. If you aren't no worries he will ship to you.

Fun experience! Josuke imparted knowledge, passion and appreciation for this art and provided clear instructions so we could create our own. The matcha and mochi at the end were a nice surprise treat. He also was kind enough to not only help me look up a cafe to go to for decaf coffee (surprisingly hard to find in Japan) afterwards but walked me to Yasakanamba Shrine (where I wanted to visit and the cafe was near).
Response from Host, Dec 2025
Thank you very much for your kind words. I am truly honored that you enjoyed the experience and found satisfaction in creating your own kintsugi item. It was a pleasure to share knowledge and passion for this craft, and I am glad the instructions were helpful. I am delighted that you appreciated the matcha and mochi treats. I was happy to assist you in finding a decaf coffee spot and accompany you to Yasakanamba Shrine. Arigatougozaimasu.

I really enjoyed this Kintsugi workshop in Osaka! Jouske was a wonderful instructor—patient, clear in his explanations, and very supportive throughout the process. It was a relaxing and memorable hands-on experience, and I loved being able to bring home a unique piece I repaired myself. We also enjoyed matcha at the end, which made the experience even more special. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Osaka.

Amazing experience! Jo took the time and patience to teach my wife and I the art of Kintsugi. He explained all the steps and how important it is to Japanese culture. He provided us variety of refreshments, even an impromptu matcha making class. We got to apply the laquer and gold. He explained that it does take 24hrs to dry and he would be happy to drop off to our hotel. Well worth experience and highly recommend!
Ruby_W, Jul 2025
Jo was a fantastic teacher and went above and beyond teaching us about the process and how to do it ourselves. He had plenty of examples to view and was incredibly helpful giving us local recommendations. I would recommend this class to anyone looking for a creative experience.

Excellent cultural experience! The host is a one man operation who focuses on Kitsugi as his own small buisiness. It was very educational and rewarding as he takes you through both the real process and meaning behind Kintsugi!

Alana_W, Nov 2024
Our class was just our group of 4 people which made the experience feel very intimate and personable. Jo was a great speaker and kept us engaged. Lesson was in a very old and historic building which was very cool. Jo also showed us how to prepare matcha at the end of our session which was a pleasant surprise.
Some tips for others looking to book:
- we made "chopping" style Kinstugi rather than "cracking" type. I was expecting the latter since that's what you usually see in pictures, but am still very happy with the end result.
- the final product takes some time to cure, so Jo will ship you your work (note: ticket price did not include shipping)
- it's a little tricky to find, I'd recommend saving a few minutes to find the entrance
- Namba Yasaka Jinja was right nearby, worth a look on your way out
Response from Host, Nov 2024
thank you for participating our workshop and giving us great review. please wait for shipping out your plates for a while. yes for oversea shipping we need to charge but for domestic shipping it is included with ticket price.

Jo went above and beyond to make this a memorable experience. We learned so much about the art of kintsugi and got to see some of the projects he's working on. Chatting with him was fun too, and the overall vibe of the shop was very calming which is nice after the bustle of big cities. Can't recommend highly enough!
