We pick up guests from main hotels and airbnb in Medellin. For guests staying outside Medellin a meeting point will be given. Please note that we do not charge extra for tours in other languages are subjected to availability.
Itinerary
Meet your private guide at your hotel in Medellín and hop into an air-conditioned car to start your tour. With just your guide and your private party, head to El Peñol, a well-known boulder with a great view of the surrounding area. Throughout the ride, listen to commentary about the history and culture of the area from your guide.
Upon arrival, climb the 700 steps to the top of the boulder with your guide, who entertains and informs you during the trip. After admiring the view, come back down to tour the town of Guatape and eat lunch on the waterfront (own expense). You can optionally ride a boat around the lake, depending on time.
Pass through a number of small towns before returning to your hotel (drop-off is later for passengers who choose the waterfall option).

The tour itself is amazing. The view from the top is breathtaking and Guatape is colorful and charming. Totally worth it! We wished tour guide would have been more informative throughout the tour and advised us about how much time we had. We wanted to spend more time in Guatape exploring but felt rushed.

The view from the top of the rock is amazing but this is not a tour but rather a driver and a car. There is very little I formation that is shared and it’s mostly all self guided. We had two people and it’s was over $260 for a car and driver for a few hours. We already had a car and driver for the week but we thought this was a tour so wish we had not done this with this company but rather gone with our own driver.

This was an amazing private tour with a great guide named Jorge. Super knowledgeable and friendly. Spoke perfect English and made every aspect of this tour great. We even stopped for a typical breakfast of cheese melted in hot chocolate on the way to the rock. It’s a picturesque drive and Jorge made it informative with stories and perspectives of the history and what happened here. It was great context for me mixing in some history. The Peñol are is stunning. I’m planning to go back to stay there at least one night. Climbing the rock was a challenge but well worth it. The village of Guatape was the last stop. This beautiful and colorful town was a sight. We had a great lunch facing the lake after a great walking tour seeing the most notable and beautiful parts of the town.

This is a great tour- do not miss it - maybe just with a different agency! Our original appointment (for Monday 2nd) was cancelled an hour before the pick-up time. Luckily we had availability for the 4th. Despite the warning of the agency (το start at 7 or 7:30) we requested a start time at 8:30, we hit long lines of cars and a delay of 1h-1h30m (ok as we have been warned). But since the arrival everything was rushed. Only 30-45min at the village and 1 hour at the Rock (obviously we did not climb due to long waiting lines but that was ok-by the way the ticket was part of the total price- never received credit for not using it-anyway that was a small part of the overall disappointment). And then rushing back to Medellin- we have not made any other stops mentioned in the program and all in all disappointing due to the rushed schedule, overpriced (other agencies offer more for lower price) but definitely worth making this tour!

Aww, yes, we remember you, the man that was over an hour late for his tour because of late night partying with his boyfriend.
Our guide arrived at 7:30 am at the dangerous neighborhood you were staying at which is way out of our pick up location area, but we made it happen for you guys without complaining.
You two lazily made your way out at 9:05 am, extremely late. You should mention the real facts sir. What we should have done is marked you down as a
no-show. We reserve the right to mark someone as a no-show after half an hour of waiting, thereby losing your tour and money.
So due to "your tardiness", you encountered a long line at the rock, at which point you were unwilling to go up the rock and the guide kindly took you to the town of Guatape, where he gave you double the time in the town, covering everything that was stipulated in the booking information, constantly suggesting places to eat, however you didn't want to eat due to the late night you had (not our problem).
After covering all the spots in Guatape, the guide proceeded to go back to the rock and once again you and your partner were reluctant to go up the rock because (the real truth came out) that you had knee problems due to your age as you said, and your young Colombian friend was lethargic due to the previous night, as he said.
So again, not our fault you had medical issues, not our problem or our business about what you do, did, etc the night before,
BUT...ALL OF THOSE FACTORS WILL OBVIOUSLY AFFECT OUR TOUR, including starting very late to begin with. Also, you never mentioned that the guide gave you an extra hour to walk around the rock and shops, enjoying the views from below, again offering places to eat, etc.
We've had thousands of awesome guests who have done this tour with medical conditions who walk around the rock at the bottom enjoying the same views you get from the top without complaining and being cognicent of their limitations.
You knew what you were in for, and yet you still had a good time walking around the bottom part.
As for the tickets, you use them or lose them. They are only a couple of bucks anyways. If you go to a concert and decide not to go inside, you don't get a refund right? Same here. Aside from all of this you insisted on finally eating, but, it was when the tour was over and you told the guide
"It had to be" in Mondongos on 70th street. Furthermore, you were staying way out of our coverage area where we dropped you off at, in a dangerous barrio high in Robledo, costing us more money, overtime and most importantly, safety concerns for our guide in those narrow, risky one lane, windy ghetto roads. Did we complain? NO.
No one rushed you, we paid a boat load of overtime and aren't complaining or charging you more for it. We should of avoided all the headaches you gave us and cancelled your tour from the get go.
We enjoy touring people that are candid, honest and who understand that sometimes things happen. It's how we deal with them that matter, not blaming tour companies for your tardiness, the heavy night before a long tour which requires a lot of walking and medical problems etc.
We have no control over your habits and conditions that affected the tour.
Last, our prices are on point, you get what you pay for in life.
We don't do the crammed, covid infested, noisy and congested bus tours with zero air conditioning and no English speaking guides that you are endorsing.
Besides, had you taken the bus tour, you would have lost your money, as they leave at 6am and don't wait a minute for anyone, let alone an hour an a half like we did.
Nevertheless, I wish you luck and highly recommend that before doing any outdoor tours in the future, you take it easy the night before, come with a better attitude and most certainly have a realistic approach in accordance with your physical limitations.

The tour guide was excellent. It is a 1:30 hour ride to get to the Peñol. The Peñol hike can take you between 18-30 minutes depending on your physical condition. Veronica, our tour guide was great. After the Peñol yo take a stroll around Guatapé town which ia very colorful.

If you take only one tour during your visit to Colombia, this should be the one!! El Peñol and Guatapé was the second tour we took with Lina from Medellin Travels, and once again she did not let us down! We left in the morning, stopping for local pan de queso along the way. We got to El Peñol, where she gave us lots of time to climb the rock and enjoy the view along the way. At the top we relaxed for a bit, took lots of photos, and had a drink and a paleta before climbing back down. Then we headed into beautiful Guatapé for a traditional lunch at an amazing restaurant and a little bit of walking and shopping around town. Overall, this tour was absolutely wonderful and should not be missed!

Amazing tour! Alex from Medellin travels was great. Fluent in English and great tour guide. Climbing the penol rock was a unique experience and the view from top amazing! The town of guatape was beautiful and had a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. I would recommend this tour for everyone!

This private trip is amazing, amazing staff and amazing view. The Gatape town is colorful and beatiful, and the view of the islands is majestical. The guide is also the driver, she let me to take my time and gives me a good recommendation for the lunch. I really enjoy it.

Our tour guide was very professional. He picked us up on time from the hotel and his car was clean. During our tour he stopped at a nice place on the road for us to get some Colombian coffee and cheese bread. He was very knowledgeable and friendly, and gave us really good explanations of the area and the town's history. Beautiful views from the top of El Peñol!....just prepare yourself for climbing over 700 steps...Definitely a must see if you are in Medellin for a few days and have time to leave the city for a day.
