Climb the enormous rock El Penon de Guatape, which has been worchipped by the local tribes for thousands of years. What a great and thorough experience we had with our tour guide, Juan Carlos! The drive there included a lot of history and facts about Columbia, that we did not know. We stopped for some yummy typical Colombian treats on the way and got early to El Peñon, which allowed us ample time to explore without the crowds. Guatapé was a charming town with beautiful art work all over the buildings and great food. Once again, we beat the crowds and enjoyed ourselves very much. We ended the trip stopping for lunch at some sort of petting zoo. That was unique and fun for the kids! We highly recommend this tour, especially if you have children!

Mauricio was a fantastic guide. He explained so much as we drove to our destinations and while we were there. I learned a lot about the history of Guatapé and different aspects of Colombian culture. I would definitely recommend.

We had a wonderful time with Luisa in Guatapé. We could choose our pick up time (6am for us) and Luisa picked us up at our hotel. She was very friendly and knowledgeble. We went to the top of El Peñol and visited Guatapé together. We really really enjoyed it and would recommend the tour a lot as we were there before all the busses arrived. As it was a private tour we could choose the time we spent at the places and where back im Medellin at 1 pm.

The tour was awesome, we started at 6:00 am. Our guide Carlos did above and beyond to make our day perfect. Starting early you avoid all the crowds and traffic, I will definitely recommend doing that. Besides, doing a private tour you can take your time walking around or leaving early if you want to. The place is gorgeous.

Laura ended up being our own private tour guide as it was just me and my partner, and we booked this experience the day before. Picked up in front of our hotel in El Poblado and quickly driven straight to El Peñol. Went up and down before the crowds; same with Guatape where we came early and mostly had the streets to ourselves with only a few other people. Highly recommended tour if you go early (6:30 pickup).

We had the most wonderful time with Carlos. He gave us a one of a kind view into the history of Medellin, Guatapé, Peñol, and everything in between. Even though the tour was scheduled for 8-10 hours, he never made us feel rushed and let us really absorb the experience. His English was fantastic and he was so knowledgeable about history and politics of the region.

This was our favorite tour on our trip in Colombia! We had done alot of group tours and for an excursion like this we wanted it to be a little bit more personal and custom to our wants and needs. We had our tour guide Daniel and he picked us up from our hotel and we headed out to Guatape. We got to stop for coffee on this farm and feed the llamas before heading to Peñol de Guatape which me and my boyfriend got to do at our own pace for as much time as we needed, never feeling rushed. Then we headed to Guatape where we got to do some walking on our own and some with Daniel who gave us a ton of history lessons on Guatape. We got to try coffee, desserts, and other snacks locally which was amazing part of the tour. On the way back we headed to replica of Peñol which was crazy to learn about the history before they flooded the area.
Overall. This was such an amazing and personal tour. Daniel was the best and so knowledgeable about everything we learned, from Guatape to Medellin to Colombia in general. If your gonna do a private tour and spend a little bit more this is 100% the tour to do so, couldn’t recommend more!!!

We had a fantastic experience on our private tour with Diego. His English was excellent, and he made the entire day smooth, fun, and stress-free (especially important since we had kids with us). He was patient, kind, and incredibly attentive to our family’s needs.
Diego shared great history, took us to beautiful scenic spots, and always made sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. We felt completely safe and well taken care of throughout the trip.
I highly recommend Diego for a perfect family-friendly experience in Guatapé and El Peñol.

My husband and I took this private tour today, and we highly recommend it.
We left at 6 am and avoided traffic and large tourist crowds. When we arrived at El Peñon, there were hardly any people there, and the same was true at Guatapé. The tourist buses started arriving just as we were about to leave the town, so we could take pictures and walk around almost alone.
Our guide was Juan Carlos, who shared lots of information about Colombia, Medellín, and the places we visited. He was easygoing, friendly, and spoke excellent English.
If you're choosing between a group tour and a private tour, I recommend going private. It will save you a lot of time and let you enjoy the sites before most tourists arrive.

Fantastic, informative trip with a great guide Juan Carlos. Juan spoke excellent English and had a deep knowledge of all things Colombian! A very pleasant day. We left Medellin early, at 6, and would recommend this if you could manage it! Missed a lot of traffic and were alone at top of penon rock!

Great day with our tour guide Juan Carlos! Guatape is a must see/do if you visit Medellin. And to do it with a guide like Juan Carlos makes it all the more special. While the ascent to the top of the rock is challenging, the views make it all worthwhile! Just take your time and you will be fine! And beyond the rock, the visit to the town, and the history that Juan Carlos shared all drive and as we walked from the beginning of Colombia to modern day was fascinating and made the trip all the more special! A great day and an incredible experience!

We took this tour while staying in Medellín - it was a perfect day trip and an unforgettable experience. Diego was our tour guide, and he was awesome! He is super knowledgeable, and gave us a great overview of the history and the sights we saw. He also patiently answered every one of our (many) questions :)
Guatapé and the Rock of El Peñol were beautiful. Climbing the rock takes some time, but isn't too strenuous. I would definitely recommend a private tour (like this one) instead of a group tour, since we didn't feel rushed at all when climbing El Peñol and we got to more fully enjoy the view from the top as well as our trip to Guatapé town.

This was a wonderful trip and the perfect amount of time. Juan Carlos was an extremely knowledgeable guide who shared the history of Colombia with us on our ride to Guatapé. The rock itself is a fun climb and the view is incredible. Then, Juan Carlos showed us around the colorful town. He took pictures for us and showed us some delicious Colombian sweets. Highly recommend this!!

Camilo is an excellent guide who speaks perfect English and translated for us when needed. But more than that he made sure we had such a fun tour, providing lots of information about the area, recommending places to eat & shop, taking lots of pictures of us, and going above & beyond to make sure we had a memorable day! Our tour guide Juan Carlos was fantastic. On the drive from Medellin to El Penol and Guatape he explained a lot about the history of Colombia in general and Medellin in particular and also explained about El Penol and Guatape towns history. It was fascinating and made our trip so much better. He also answered all of our questions and took photos of us at all the good spots. This is an excellent tour !

You CANNOT come to Medellin and miss GUATAPÉ. Come early as possible because it is a popular destination. It’s intimidating but totally doable and the views are more than worth it.

Camilo took us on a private guided tour to El Penol and Guatape, but his words and experiences brought the trip to life. We had an amazing day, traveling around at our own pace, seeing parts of the country we would not have otherwise. The time in between the stops was the most fun, while he pointed out landmarks and provided some history and cultural significance to each area. If you are not a tour person, but want to get out of the city for the day, this is a great trip.

If you’re looking for a guatape experience that doesn’t take up your whole day, this is for you. Our guide was Daniel and he was aaaamazing. He picked us up right in front of our hotel and 2 minutes into the drive he started sharing his extensive knowledge and history of Colombia. I don’t even like history but he made everything so interesting and I learned so much. We stopped for a snack at a local place on the way which was great. Then we headed to penol rock, the views were amazing here. After there we went to guatape town. Daniel was attentive to our needs and patient for our photo ops, and even acted as our photographer when needed. This tour will definitely be one of the highlights of my trip.

Our guide Juan Camilo was AMAZING! Guatape and El Peñol were so beautiful. He showed us everything that was included in the tour and some off the beaten path gems that really made the trip better. Excelente tour para conocer estos turísticos puntos cercanos a Medellín. A la hora convenida, Laura pasó por nosotros al hotel señalado. Laura es la mejor guía, bien informada, amena, maneja excelente y tiene una muy buena selección de música.
Hicimos la paradas en Nuevo Peñol, la Piedra y Guatapé. En cada uno de ellos, Laura nos indicaba la historia, los puntos a observar en la geografía y la comida típica.
Tour ampliamente recomendado y si pueden coincidir con Laura, será uno de sus mejores excursiones.
