Itinerary

Meet your guide at the Medellin meeting point in the morning. From there, you’ll travel directly to Peñol Rock (La Piedra del Peñol) in the town of Guatapé—the journey lasts around 2 hours. There, you’ll have the chance to climb the 742 steps that lead to the summit of the distinctly-shaped rock and soak up panoramic views of Lake Guatapé below.

Once you’ve caught your breath at the bottom, you’ll then travel a short distance to board a boat for a ride through the Peñol Guatapé Dam, for a fresh perspective of the area from the water.

Finally, you’ll have time to explore Plazoleta de los Zocalos—a craft market and the town’s most colorful enclave, made famous by its umbrellas. Once you’ve picked up your souvenirs, you’ll then board the bus and head back to the original meeting point in Medellin.

This was a long day and we stopped for both breakfast and lunch which were included with the trip. Both meals were mediocre. The guide was friendly and very informative. I loved visiting the rock and climbed 425 steps. Guatape is a lovely, very colorful town. The boat trip was so-so. Overall, I’m glad I went and would recommend to others.

This trip was fantastic. A really great deal. We were staying in Guatape for the night so we took the tour with our luggage (stored under the bus while the tour was happening) and then just got our luggage at the end of the tour and made our way to our hotel in Guatape. It was a great way to see the rock/town/boat ride of the lake and get transportation from medellin to guatape for an amazing price!

Absolutely Amazing Experience

We enjoyed this day trip so much! Everything was well planned, the early start time ensured that we got the most out of the day :) Our tour guide took our orders for breakfast and lunch prior so we had a smooth experience at the restaurants. Breakfast was lovely we are vegetarians and chose the Colombian pastries option which we enjoyed! The free time at all our stopes were great, we enjoyed walking around the town and we opted to climb El Peñol, it only looks intimidating, the stars are well made and easy to climb up, go at your own pace and take breaks, sip water as needed :) At the top you have a option of buying a medal with your name and date engraved as a memento of your accomplishment of climbing the rock. the views everywhere were breath taking. Lunch was great for us (vegetarians) and the boat tour was a lovely enjoyable addition :) Definitely recommend this tour if you are in Medellin (even if you don't want to climb El Peñol). Kudos to the our guide, driver and the company :)

Great for solo, very informative, very good value

I had a fantastic time on this tour. Julie was a really good host, very informative and easy going, and the people on the trip were also really friendly. I came solo and left having made some friends. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to get out of Medellin, and discover a pueblo where you learn about the culture of life outside of the big city and the history of how Guatapé came to be.

Definitely worth the money. Drive takes a while but no way around thay and the tour guide gives some great info. Yesid was a brilliant guide and made the experience really fun. Beautiful views and good food followed by a fun boat ride.

Don't be late. They gave clear instructions on being early. Unfortunately I incorrectly copy pasted address for Uber ride and didn't realize until after he drove away. We quickly grabbed a taxi but arrived at the correct place too late. We did find another tour nearby so day wasn't totally wasted.

Amazing Bang for the Buck

Great bang for the buck. View and stop at piedra del peñol, breakfast paid for on the way, nice stop at guatape, 1hr boat ride, with paid lunch, short historical tour, and 1hr free time, ride back with restroom stop. Overall a great experience. Driver Javi was super safe and respectful of the climate in the bus. Tour guide Melissa was very knowledgeable, both in local legends, and historical facts. Boat was a good experience with local improvisational singer. Would deffinately recommend this outing. So much fun, and a great bang for the buck.

One of our best tours in Colombia. The guide explained everything very well and with real enthusiasm. Guatape is a wonderful little town. (Only downside for us was someone took our plastic raincoats from our bag that was left on the coach each time we stopped somewhere - only realised they were missing when we got to our hotel)

This was fun getting see the sites and trying some authentic Colombian food. The steps may look like a lot but its doable and pretty easy even if you are average fitness. The bus ride is long on the way back because of traffic but I do appreciate the bathroom stop.

This was a great way to explore Guatape! Our guide Patricia was very friendly and knowledgeable. There is so much included with 2 meals, a boat ride, walking tour and free time to shop or climb. Keep in mind, it is a full day excursion so make sure to bring comfy shoes. Would definitely recommend to anyone traveling to Medellin.

Good value for money

Very good value for money - we were taken for breakfast, to the penol rock, on a boat, to lunch and into guatape. The lunch was great because we tried a colombian dish we had been wanting to try since we arrived in Colombia. The boat ride was a bit - meh. I did a very similar tour 13 years ago and on that tour we were really taken around the lake, given history, shown the cross out of the water .etc. This was more like just jumping on a boat for a bit of a time filler. I enjoyed that we had our own time in places rather than having to stick with a big group. Our tour guide was nice and gave us the relevant information but I don't feel we got more than a quick google search. That being said, for everything we did, it was very good value for money.
