This was simply brilliant. Pedro is one of the best tourist guides we have had. Knowledgeable, able to answer all questions and obviously well liked by the locals who all seemed to know him. We tasted wine, tried authentic food and learned lots. Would highly recommend

The Food & Wine Walking Tour takes place every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and it starts at 10.00am. Attendance 15 minutes earlier is required. The meeting point is at Infante Roundabout right next to “H&M” store at 09.45am.

This was a truly engaging and interesting tour. Our guide Pedro was passionate and informative from the very start and really took the time to explain the history, the culture and the traditions of food and drink in Madeira. We were also blessed with the weather which made tasting and eating outside even more memorable. Finding local corners and restaurants tucked away in the backstreets of Funchal offering traditional specialities was a delight and I went back to many of them during the week to savour the delights. Having never done a tour before, I was really pleased and enjoyed every minute. The group of tourists on the tour was also friendly and lovely. Thank you Pedro, you are an asset to the tourism of Madeira. I would highly recommend.

Interesting tour in Funchal with a very competent guide! Info about buildings and places, combined with tasting food, cakes, fruit and different things to drink gives a special touch of the city and Madeira.. The tour was very well organized! Thanks for letting us know Funchal in this way!

Bruno was our guide and he was super funny, a fountain of knowledge, and had tons of tips and tricks for navigating the city. We had a great time and he gave us a list of other places to check out. The spots were all unique and the food and drink phenomenal.

A great insight

Roberto was very knowledgable and gave us a real insight into Madeira. Whilst softly spoken he had excellent English. We’ve been to Madeira several times however got to see some places we hadn’t been before.

What a fantastic activity! Well worth doing. Our guide, Matt was so informative and the 8 stops for food and drink left us too full for a meal later. Small group of 10 meant everyone was involved in the conversations. Although we have been coming to Funchal for 10 years we learned new information!

We book a walking food & drink tour whenever we visit a new place so have been on quite a few around the world - this one topped them all! Knowledgeable guide, 8 stops including three sit-down "meals", wines, drinks, meats, sweets, we had them all. Can't recommend this tour highly enough!!

It has a bit of everything. You won't just eat and drink. There will also be some cultural history. It is advisable to have a good breakfast beforehand and it is best not to plan any wine tasting afterwards as there is plenty there.

Matt is a very knowledgeable guide, patient and kind. I'm probably speaking on behalf of a few other attendees when I say he needs to speak a bit louder while we are walking about the streets, as it became difficult to hear him , at times. All in all, it was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend it to visitors new to Funchal. Todd

Disappointing. Not worth the money.

Unfortunately I would not describe this tour as a ‘food tour’. It started well at the brewery and there was a lot of information and opportunity to taste the Madeiran wine however it went down hill from there. The food we were given was measly e.g. a small packet with a bit of Madeira cake inside. And there was very little information about the food throughout. Some of it was really not pleasant (tough boiled pork on a plate to share with huge amounts of fat). The tour did drag running at 3h30 and I feel for £68.40 was not worth the money.

Fantastic tour

Fantastic day with Roberto on the food and wine tour. We started by enjoying Madeira wine at Blandy’s wine lodge and then made our way around town trying chocolate, traditional biscuits, fish, pork, bolodo bread, more wine and local fruits. Roberto was knowledgeable and shared history, art and cultural information. We have been on food tours in numerous countries and this one was at the top of our list. Make sure you go with an empty stomach as there is a lot of food and drink to sample.

What a perfect way to explore Old Town to get a resident's view of Funchal! Grace was able to point out so much more than just the varied local-focused foods and drinks we enjoyed tremendously. Come hungry so you won't miss out on anything. We particularly enjoyed the visit to the market to sample exotic (to us) Madeiran-grown fruits. A great introduction to Funchal. We've already gone back to most of the shops to enjoy new samples (as well as the favorites we tasted)!

Roberto guided us through the streets of Funchal filling our brains with local knowledge and our tummies with local food and beverages, whilst taking us to hidden gems around the city. We sampled, amongst other delights, Madeira wine, local chocolates, biscuits and street food. I would thoroughly recommend going on this tour at any point during your holiday (we did it on our last day) but to get the most out of this experience I’d suggest doing it in the first few days you are in Funchal so you can enjoy the restaurants and shops you are taken to over the rest of stay.
