Itinerary

Depending on whether your tour falls on a Wednesday or Friday, you’ll be collected from your hotel in morning or afternoon. After climbing aboard your open-top 4x4 vehicle, you’ll embark on a serpentine route to the Valley of the Nuns (Curral das Freiras).

Admire cherry orchards, terraced vineyards, and mountainous terrain from your elevated vantage point before stopping to sample Portuguese liqueur and pastries.

Following more views of valleys, visit a wicker factory to learn about local crafts. The tour concludes with hotel drop-off.

Scenic Potential Lost to Weather and Poor Organisation

Disappointing experience. The tour started 45 minutes late with no communication. Couldn’t hear much of the guide’s commentary over the engine. Poor weather meant we saw very little at Pico do Arieiro and Boca dos Namorados. Curral das Freiras had lovely views but not much else. Câmara de Lobos was listed but skipped without explanation. We accept that the weather isn’t the operator’s fault, but it’s something to bear in mind—especially if visiting Madeira in June.

Miguel was a great host and guide and despite the bad weather in the mountains he made sure we had an enjoyable tour. Unfortunately we couldn’t see anything through the thick deep clouds but we did stop lower down for some special views. Miguel was knowledgeable about the trees and environment and the recent history of the people. Well done Green Devil Safaris.

Juan was a great guide but there was no pastry tasting or wicker factory as stated which was a shame.

Hello, Thank your for your rate. I'm glad your had a great day with our guide Juan. The pastry was there and your could taste but of course you have to pay (it's normal), the bakery doesn't belong to us. The wicker factory is closed since 2019.

Was booked for 830 and received many messages and reminders . Was greeted with a very rude driver calling us saying we had booked for 8am . We actually ready and met him then at 815 but felt uncomfortable initially. Trip was great though

Thank your for your rate. On 27/04/2022, at 22:45 you received a confirmation email with the correct pick up time as you hotel is far away from Funchal. We ALWAYS reply to the bookings with the correct pick up time and pick up place. The guide wasn't rude, but he had other clients to pick and he would be late at theirs pick ups (while wasn't his fault), as he has 8:00 at your hotel, and we ain't you the email on 27 April 2022, at 22:45, informing 8:00am. Thanks

Truly excellent and fun experience

First thing to note, if you have Nelson, you are in for a great experience!! Nelson arrived to pick us up bang on time. We visited a number of sites including valley of the nuns, Pico do Arieiro plus others. Nelson was very knowledgeable about Madeira and was full of facts all the way round. Unfortunately Pico do Arieiro was covered in cloud, but we were prepared for that with rain coats. Highlight would have been the view but the view above the valley of the nuns stole the show in terms of views. But apart from the views, Nelson was great and kept us laughing most of the way round!! If you could get in the back of the vehicle, I would recommend here for a bit of extra room. I would highly recommend this tour.

Excellent tour to Nun's Valley and one of the high peaks. Plenty of time for stops. Spencer was a great driver and guide, relaxed and friendly. He made sure we had time to take what photos we needed. Highly recommended.

Muy recomendable, hicimos el recorrido en familia, éramos 4, nuestro guía Nelson fue muy agradable con nosotros y nos explicó muchas cosas de Madeira que no vienen en las guías turísticas. Elegimos una excursión de mediodía, porque pensamos que hacerla de día completo podía ser muy pesada hacerla con niños, pero en realidad se puede hacer perfectamente una excursión de un día completo con niños, porque es muy amena. Sin duda si volvemos a Madeira, escogeremos una de día completo y si es posible con el mismo guía.

Hello, About the weather we can't do anything and our guide forgot to bring his remote control to move the clouds. In Madeira November is Autumn and you may have some days more cloudy than other, and you have many forecast apps where you can check the weather before visit Madeira and book excursions. The other clients understood that its not our guide fault if the weather was not good, but they enjoyed the excursion as they could see and learn more about Madeira, instead of beeing closed in the hotel. Hallo, Über das Wetter können wir nichts machen und unser Guide hat vergessen seine Fernbedienung mitzubringen um die Wolken zu bewegen. Auf Madeira ist im November Herbst und es kann an manchen Tagen bewölkter sein als an anderen, und Sie haben viele Vorhersage-Apps, mit denen Sie das Wetter vor Ihrem Besuch auf Madeira überprüfen und Ausflüge buchen können. Die anderen Kunden verstanden, dass es nicht die Schuld unseres Reiseleiters war, wenn das Wetter nicht gut war, aber sie genossen den Ausflug, da sie mehr über Madeira sehen und erfahren konnten, anstatt im Hotel geschlossen zu sein.
