A Day We Won't Soon Forget

We climbed onto e-bikes and followed Fabrizio through vineyards, olive groves, and quiet country roads into the hills outside Lucca. Our group of three ranged from our 60s to our 70s, and all of us handled the e-bikes with ease. Fabrizio made sure everyone got the amount of workout they wanted, whether that meant leaning into the pedaling or letting the e-bikes do more of the work. I'll admit I felt a little nervous riding an e-bike for only the second time in my life. Fabrizio took the time to make sure I felt steady and confident before we ever took off, and he stayed close to me throughout the ride, calling out which gear to use as the terrain changed. That made all the difference. Fabrizio isn't just a guide. He's a former professional cyclist, a sommelier, and a genuine expert on this region, and he builds each tour around the people riding with him. He read the group well and gave us breaks when the heat picked up, so the pace never felt like a push. It felt like a ride made just for us. We stopped in the hilltop village of Montecarlo, and it may be one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. I'm already thinking about when I can go back. From there we continued on to Fattoria Enzo Carmignani, where the ride ended with a proper wine tasting alongside homemade bruschetta topped with tomatoes grown on the property, fresh bread with their own olive oil, ravioli, pecorino, frittata, and lemon gelato. Nothing about the day felt rushed. It felt like spending time with a local friend who couldn't wait to show us his favorite places. If you're planning a trip to Lucca, ask for Fabrizio when you book. You'll leave with a full stomach, a camera full of photos, and a side of Tuscany you can't see from inside the city walls. This was a day we won't soon forget.
